local.bitcoin.com and "This user requires that you verify your phone number to trade with them." Does the user know my phone number before a trade?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 08:24 PM PDT

I initiated a trade, buying BCH, and have this msg:

This user requires that you verify your phone number to trade with them.

I know I can verify my phonenumber in the account settings.

My questions are, who will see my phone number?

    • My number will be stored on local.bitcoin.com?

    • The seller will know my phone number?

I worry about this, because in the country where I live, every SIM card is registered to an official ID-card/Passport.

If a person knows your phone number, especially for the government, it's very easy to identify you.

If the seller will know my phone number, at which moment in the transaction, he will see my number?

Bisq fork based DEX for BCH (CashX) progress update!

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 11:32 PM PDT

First, pardon the late update, I was pretty busy these days, although I'm not in school anymore. But the last 4 days or so I've been working on it earnesly, since I wake up till I go to sleep, so I've made some progress regardless.

Good news: it builds witout errors! At long last I was able to fix almost everything, now the last thing (among some other stuff, which in its majority is UI related) is to fix the connections to the BCH Nodes, in which it states that it tries to follow an orphan blockchain and drops the connection.

Some other good news: it displays BCH price in the FIAT currencies supported flawlessly, and also, the price of the other coins are (supposedly, haven't tested because the Nodes problem) showed in BCH instead of BTC.

(i.e. 1 DASH is aprox 0.01890369 BTC at time of posting, but now it is aprox 0.37557069 BCH)

In other words, yes, I am deviating from BTC, and as such I decided to not include BTC right now, it could (and it will) come in the future. But as you can see, everything is based on BCH and it will continue this way.

Hope u/ftrader, u/7e62ce852 and all of you don't mind this.

Since it connects to a server to retrieve this data, I had to create it from scratch, I used Django and... well, you can see it in the repo.

Also, I was only trying some stuff and I shit you not, I didn't thing it could end this ugly ( https://imgur.com/a/tBu9hTO ). But still, it's only temportal, and it will not be there when it ships (which btw, I can say it will be real soon).

    -------------------------------------------

I kid you not, was only fixing and fixing and fixing bugs and errors, some caused by myself, some others by my stupidity and some others by my PC lol. But you know what they say, you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs.

After fixing the last things, I will immediately begin testing to maje sure everything works as intended, still bugs may happen as with any software, be aware.

    Repo:

CashX (remember that the branch is cashx and cashx-test)

PriceServer (the server for the prices based on BCH)

    -------------------------------------------

What else is there to do?

    • Host the price server
    • Host the seed server (since the version is different, the Bisq ones drop the connection)
    • Figure out what to do with the DAO (srly, I don't really know what to do nor I dare to touch it)
    • Change UI elements (the splash screen for example, and the translations)
    • Fix the BCH Nodes problem (oh boy)
    • Test the hell out of it

    -------------------------------------------

Hey, if you want to help, then a donation would be good, thanks!

Blockchain in Chains: It's Time To Strip The SEC Of Authority Over Cryptocurrency...

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 04:28 PM PDT

When people ask me: "What is Bitcoin" or "What is cryptocurrency?" my to go answer is: "There are two kinds of money. Old money and new money. Old money only exists outside of the internet, new money only exists inside of the internet."

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 09:34 PM PDT

There are currently hundreds of new types of money and you want to get the one that will catch on. The one that will catch on will have to function as new money ai ... it needs better properties than old money. This brings me to Bitcoin Cash, which is the best functioning new money on the market. Ethereum is not money but the smart contracts for the new money and Monero's ratio between privacy and transparency is to skewed in favor of privacy, which means they lose the cooperative oversight that is needed to keep trust in the system. Then there is Bitcoin Core which functions as a defunct old money system where you had gold (bitcoin) and paper IOU's (Lightning Network). In that system eventually the governments had all the gold and the citizens all the paper. Then the link between gold and paper was broken. Bitcoin Core is a money system we had before the current one. It's literally a step back in time. So you can't call it new money. I call it Naive Old Old Money, which also spells MOON backwards.

An implied feature in the definition of "money" and "cash" is the ability to spend it to buy normal things, i.e. the bottom left side of the bell curve of the average prices of goods. BTC is not either of those things because you can't even use it to buy a meal without essentially paying twice.

Having seen the post at r/Bitcoin about BitPay charging about $2 to accept Bitcoin, don’t you believe it’s pretty funny when they blame Bitcoin Cash for Bitcoin not working properly?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2019 06:43 AM PDT

"BitPay is a scam because Bcash is a scam." More like you shouldn't complain if you like spending more than a penny on transaction fees.
