    Hi Bitcoiners!

    Questions on seed phrases

    Posted: 04 May 2019 11:35 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I see that many bitcoin wallets provide users with seed phrases to remember. I understand that users can use these seed phrases to restore a wallet. Here are few questions:

    • Are seed phrases connected to the specific wallet software that generated it? If for example in ten years that software is not supported anymore and I need to restore my wallet, does it mean I'll be stuck?

    • I understand that wallets generate seed phrases from a list of 2048 words and that the combinations of words are a looooot. Assuming that the combinations (just as an example) are 1,000,000, does it mean that when the wallet software has generated 1,000,000 seed phrases, I could just type s random order and access one of the wallets?

    • How does the wallet make sure that it's not giving me the same seed phrases that it has given to another user? Does the wallet store all seed phrases ever generated?

    4-year cycle statistical analysis

    Posted: 04 May 2019 06:41 PM PDT

Pretty simple statistical analysis I did on the 4 year cycle:

    https://imgur.com/LHPFYJY

    https://imgur.com/9SGEysS

    https://imgur.com/FeGyfh2

Basically I'm plotting the avg. Bitcoin price on the same day exactly 4 years apart, and then overlaying the time series. (price is normalized to between 0 and 1, so 1 is sample max and 0 is sample min). You can see there is a very strong correlation (chart 3 shows this correlation more exactly, but the correlation should be visible on the other charts as well).

You can see that the highs and lows, marked by stars, occurred nearly exactly 4 years apart-- more precisely, the "error" is only two weeks for the highs, and one month for the lows.

If this 4-year cycle continues much like the last one, then we have already seen the lows for this cycle.

In addition, the price is going up much faster than it is going down. Big ~7% jump the other day, but only 1-2% down on each down day-- this is a very bullish indicator(haven't mathematically looked at this, but this is my intuition based on watching the bitcoin markets for a long time). I was bearish 12-14 months ago based on this indicator, and the 4-year theory. Now I'm bullish. I think this is a fantastic opportunity that could see $75,000 in the not too distant future.

Publicnote Bitcoin Treasure Hunt 2 (0.01337 BTC)

    Posted: 04 May 2019 12:15 PM PDT

Time for another quick round. One private key hodling 0.01337 BTC has been placed into a note at publicnote.com.

To find the private key, you must enter the correct title. Find it, and it's yours to keep.

    Here's your clue: 1FXYAEwj2Ckm5EdWnGPEPg==

    Prize: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1CEeC4zJp5z2todhd5tteCvCLnSzmdvbs5

Additional clues are planted all over publicnote. Participants are welcome to modify clues or plant new ones to throw others off. I will be updating clues as well.

To prove that this contest is real, the bitcoin address was generated using the correct title as the seed to a brainwallet, with "publicnote" as the salt. The solution will be published after the prize is claimed. There is no time limit.

    Have fun!

Congrats to mooncritic for solving the puzzle! The correct answer was:

The danger is if people are buying bitcoins in the expectation that the price will go up, and the resulting increased demand is what is driving the price up. That is the definition of a BUBBLE, and as we all know, bubbles burst.
