What are the Current xRapid enabled regions?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2019 11:37 AM PDT

I'm a bit confused on what regions xRapid can currently be used in. Is it only Mexico and the the Philippines as of now? Does that mean they can only send to each other, or do they act as a kind of hub if another region were to be added? With more corridors being announced soon, what would be the impact of say a Japan to U.S corridor? As I asked above, would that mean U.S to Mexico is then available? Or would there need to be a specific U.S to Mexico corridor announced as well? Thanks for any info

A quick note on Etoro, XRP, wallets, and CFDs

    Posted: 18 Apr 2019 09:05 AM PDT

    • Been buying XRP on Etoro since September 2017, after the switch from CFDs to ownership of underlying assets
    • People still think you're buying CFDs, for some reason
    • Etoro launched a wallet, EtoroX, recently
    • I withdrew my XRP to the wallet*, it came through approx. 36 hours later (manual processing on their end)
    • Immediately transferred zerps to cold storage, where it all came through near-instantly
    • You do own coins on Etoro, not CFDs - as long as you open positions without leverage since Sept 2017
    • They didn't take those 36 hours to buy the coins they said I owned on the exchange, because if they did they'd be significantly out of pocket and running their business into the ground

tl;dr - they're not CFDs, you definitely own the coin if you bought from late 2017

*The current Etoro system of having to be a 'gold tier' member - or otherwise have put your money into the exchange via wire transfer (not credit/debit card, Paypal etc) - is absolute bullshit and hopefully will die in fire; I hate this ridiculous limitation and it makes Etoro look bad, even if they claim to be doing it for good reasons. But that's another point for another day.

Have you read the Ripple Whitepaper?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2019 02:26 AM PDT

I got into crypto in the beginning of 2017 and I'm proud to say Ripple/XRP was my first investment.

The reason I invested was (and still is) based on how awesome the technology is, which i discovered through reading the whitepaper "The Ripple Protocol Consensus Algorithm". Here's the abstract:

While several consensus algorithms exist for the Byzantine Generals Problem, specifically as it pertains to distributed payment systems, many suffer from high latency induced by the requirement that all nodes within the network communicate synchronously.

In this work, we present a novel consensus algorithm that circumvents this requirement by utilizing collectively-trusted subnetworks within the larger network. We show that the "trust" required of these subnetworks is in fact minimal and can be further reduced with principled choice of the member nodes.

In addition, we show that minimal connectivity is required to maintain agreement throughout the whole network. The result is a low-latency consensus algorithm which still maintains robustness in the face of Byzantine failures. We present this algorithm in its embodiment in the Ripple Protocol.

I was just curious, have you guys read the Whitepaper or did you do your research some other way?

Ripple (XRP) Singles Out Itself With An Early Breakout As Community Targets Higher Levels Around $0.48

    Posted: 18 Apr 2019 12:54 PM PDT

Unlike other top cryptocurrencies, Ripple (XRP) did not make huge gains in the recent price surge that swept across the board. While other cryptos where posting percentage gains in double figures, Ripple's performance was not as enthused.
