Why not just get rid mining/staking rewards and only use transaction/gas fees?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 12:59 PM PDT

Update \* Thanks for all of the great discussion everyone. I now see why the block rewards are important and shouldn't be hastily replaced with transaction fees. If you're also curious by my question; there are a lot of good explanations below. Cheers!***

I know a lot of people have been talking about this article today:https://www.trustnodes.com/2019/04/22/vitalik-buterin-proposes-doubling-staking-rewards

I've had the question in the title in my head for awhile now. Why do we need the mining/staking rewards when we have the transaction/gas fees? So my thoughts are this: essentially mining/staking are the same as fees that are paid by hodlers via inflation. Every time new ether is mined, value is decreased in ether as a whole and goes to whoever mined it. So if we removed mining/staking rewards couldn't the nodes just increase the minimum fee needed to transact on the blockchain? They would then come to fair fee via competition and mining rewards wouldn't even play a role.

I'm pretty sure i'm missing something, as this is simple enough that there's no way others haven't thought about it, so i'm curious what i'm missing.

Chinese Government positive mentioning of Blockchain !!!!

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 10:57 PM PDT

This article just appeared on the official SPP Chinese Government website talking about Factom and Bitcoin, it's recent use as evidence in court there and the need to do much more of this.

The SPP is The Supreme People's Procuratorate, also translated as the "Prosecutor General's Office" (Chinese: 最高人民检察院; pinyin: Zuìgāo Rénmín Jiǎncháyuàn) is the highest national level agency responsible for both prosecution and investigation in the People's Republic of China. Hong Kong and Macau.

It's a pretty big deal to have the Chinese authorities onside, especially with the ongoing/expanding DHS and U.S Dept of Defence work.

How Tokens Are Shaking Up Industries And Creating New Economies

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 03:07 AM PDT

We've all seen how ICOs have received a ton of hype over the last couple of years and read the assertions that blockchain technology could potentially be the biggest disruptor to technology since the internet. We then witnessed the crypto crash when many coins declined in value, and as a result, those seeking to fund spurious business models sunk with a thud. What has emerged is a number of business cases where tokens are used to create new opportunities that disrupt traditional industries and create new monetization opportunities.

Security Tokens Are Shaking Up Traditional Industries

With STOs, or security token offerings, considered by some as ICOs with legal compliance and the digitization of conventional securities by others, they have created a space for the tokenization of many assets, commodities and financial instruments.

Such disruption is underway by HYGH, a German company that's aiming to democratize out-of-home (OOH) digital advertising by using a platform that connects owners of public displays with advertisers in a peer-to-peer fashion to create advertisements in real time. (Full disclosure: I'm a personal advisor for HYGH.)

It can be likened to the early Airbnb model. HYGH has created a business to business (B2B) platform that means anyone with a screen can become an advertiser, regardless of advertising competence or company size and thus generate passive income. The company's app turns any screen into highly flexible ad space, whether located in a hotel, shop window or professionally mounted outdoor window. The company is selling its future revenues now, with investors in the STO getting 9% of the total net revenue flowing through the platform with payouts issued quarterly.

Similarly, London startup VID is utilizing a fundraising STO to growth its mission to enable people to access digital memories as easily as an internet search. It has created a blockchain- and artificial intelligence (AI)-based media platform that captures and curates digital memories. Read More

Interested in launching an Ethereum token for a small project - Where to start?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 05:10 AM PDT

My friend and I have looked online for resources but most walkthroughs are a few years old now and we are getting recurring errors. Is there a useful forum or database you could recommend?

So far we have downloaded a couple ETH from Ropstein into our wallet and tried to deploy a contract, but no luck. Here is the guide we are trying to follow: https://medium.com/bitfwd/how-to-issue-your-own-token-on-ethereum-in-less-than-20-minutes-ac1f8f022793

We have no coding experience so this is really an exploratory project for us, any help greatly appreciated!

    ENS Renewals?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:42 AM PDT

Next month a bunch of ENS domains I registered (and many others) will be expiring. I don't see the option to renew but I see this:

Needs to be renewed by: 2019-05-19

    So, two questions:

    1) How do I renew?

    2) If the domain expires, will the locked ETH automatically be returned to my wallet, or do I need to release it for that to happen?

Which Lending Platform if sitting on some USD ? Nexo, Salt, Ethlend?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:32 AM PDT

How much does it cost to add data (e.g. 1 MB) to the blockchain? How much is it then effectively costing miners to keep this data permanently on the blockchain? Do these costs increase linearly with the size of the data? Thanks
