Hate to ask a question that probably gets asked a lot but... what's the blockchain size? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 07:32 PM PDT I spent over an hour googling this and could not find a straight answer. What is the current size? The closest I found is info from months ago saying it's over 1TB. Roughly how fast is it growing? I want to build a full node and just debating on how big of drives I should buy so that I can future proof the box. Going to be using an existing 1U server which has 4 drive bays. Thinking of putting 4 4TB drives, but wondering if I should go bigger, maybe 2 12TB drives so that I can expand later. I know spindle is not going to be fast and it might take a year or so to sync but I figure once it's synced it should be able to keep up right? Will be using raid 0. Also how easy is it to backup, can I simply do a rsync job or will I get issues with trying to backup data that is constantly being written to and end up with a non atomic save? How will storage rent/fees affect certain use cases? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 11:34 AM PDT Such as: * Titles/claims of ownership on the blockchain * Proof of an event occuring at XX time/day * a simple ETH balance For example would storage rent kill the case for using Ethereum to storage property title or stock ownership? If not who would be expected to pay for keeping the data on the blockchain? Is the current plan to charge rent for simply storing ETH with-in a specific address (non-contract)? [link] [comments]

Less talk - more usable applications Posted: 26 Apr 2019 04:04 AM PDT Hey all, I've said for a while that I think it's time to stop thinking so big in terms of applications before we manage to get smaller ones to work. Thinking big is very important but we can only get there by proving usability through proper use cases, irrespective of how small. On that note, I'd love to hear your thoughts about the following piece I wrote describing a tiny dApp I built for personal use. Let me know what you think! [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 02:12 PM PDT I am reading up on companies like Securitize.io and Tokenine offering to tokenize real estate, gold, oil, intellectual property , etc. when regulations permit, and it seems they will accomplish this through the issuance of new tokens on the ETH blockchain (i.e "ERC-884" and " ERC-1404" tokens). If STO's catch on in the future and experience exponential growth, will the issuance & use of these (non ERC-20) tokens affect Ethereum holders in any way? Sources: [link] [comments]

NFTs: Future competition question for community Posted: 26 Apr 2019 06:45 AM PDT I love collecting NFTs. It's become sort of an obsession of mine. Decentraland land, Gods Unchained cards, etc... Obviously ETH is king when it comes to tokenization of assets today, but I have a question for folks here with regard to the future of this space: How will Ethereum compete with feeless alternatives. For example, if IOTA is successful with Qubic (basically, feeless smart contracts), what will ETH's plan be in order to compete? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 01:35 PM PDT Found this little gem and not sure why it's not getting more attention. eToro just recently released their US eToro Wallet App, if you either sign up or use your current eToro account and verify it which is an instant process if you have a valid US phone number that can receive SMS, once you sign in to the wallet app and open an Ethereum Wallet, you will instantly have 0.1 Ethereum in your account which you can send to any wallet instantly! Just thought I'd share this since it seems very few know about it! [link] [comments] |
