Ethereum Core Devs Meeting 58 - summary Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:12 PM PDT After the last ECH (Cat Herders Call) - some of us agreed on summarising the core dev meetings and post here and on Reddit for better accessibility and to expand the audience following core dev meetings by creating easy to read summaries. Brett summarised this time. Thank you! DECISIONS MADE DECISION 58.1 The [ProgPoW Carbon Vote](http://www.progpowcarbonvote.com/) signal will be shutting down in 13 days from today. Everyone that wishes to vote will need to do so before this date and ensure they leave their ETH in the address they voted from until after block number 7504000, as per [Lane's tweet](https://twitter.com/lrettig/status/1111652965331415040). DECISION 58.2 Going forward Clients will not provide generic verbal updates in the meeting but should provide an update in the comments in the agenda. If there are any questions or anything specific to discuss a space will be left to do so. DECISION 58.3 Going forward Research will not provide generic verbal updates but should provide an update in the comments in the agenda. If there are any questions or anything specific to discuss a space will be left to do so. ACTIONS REQUIRED ACTION 58.1 Cat Herders to look at updating EIP1, see [here](https://github.com/ethereum/pm/blob/master/All%20Core%20Devs%20Meetings/ethereum-cat-herders/PM#19). ACTION 58.2 Review the proposed solutions for Roadmaps in the [Ethereum Magicians](https://ethereum-magicians.org/t/more-frequent-smaller-hardforks-vs-less-frequent-larger-ones/2929) forum to decide if going forward the Core Devs adopts smaller hardforks rather than larger hardforks. ACTION 58.3 Vitalik to format the currently proposed [EIP-1559](https://github.com/ethereum/pm/blob/master/All%20Core%20Devs%20Meetings/ethereum/EIPs#1559) so that it is correctly presented. ACTION 58.4 Lane to provide a block number for when the [ProgPoW Carbon Vote](http://www.progpowcarbonvote.com/) will be shutdown. ACTION 58.5 Discuss if ProgPoW should continue to be implemented if the Technical Audit is not funded in [Ethereum Magicians](https://ethereum-magicians.org/tags/progpow) or [here](https://ethereum-magicians.org/t/what-has-to-be-done-to-get-progpow-on-ethereum/1361) or [here](https://ethereum-magicians.org/t/motion-to-not-include-progpow-without-audit/3027). ACTION 58.6 Clients should provide updates for future Core Dev Calls in the comments of the agenda and request an update to the agenda if they wish to discuss anything specific. ACTION 58.7 Research should provide updates for future Core Dev Calls in the comments of the agenda and request an update to the agenda if they wish to discuss anything specific. ACTION 58.8 Alexey to create a Beacon Chain Finality Gadget initiative working group and find someone to lead it, for context please see discussion in [Ethereum Magicians](https://ethereum-magicians.org/t/eth2-in-eth1-light-clients/2880). Is blockchain interoperability really a game changer? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 09:44 AM PDT Or is it a solution looking for a problem? I think it's pretty realistic to expect there to be more than one "dominant" chain in play once crypto actually starts gaining everyday mass adoption. But crypto hasn't yet done that, and until we get at least one crypto that can seriously scale, or at least one killer dapp that everybody (or at least big players) want, I wonder if it (blockchain interoperability) is really the game changer that people think it is, because if we actually do get a good scaling solution, then there may very well be one chain to rule them all. What do you guys think? [link] [comments]

Linzhi ProgPOW Open Chip Design is highly inaccurate Posted: 31 Mar 2019 05:02 PM PDT Here is the real truth. Linzhi conveniently removed commenting so people would not see through their FUD. Hidden critical feedback on Linzhi post Linzhi's misleading open chip design I'm sure everyone knows LINZHI is spreading FUD about ProgPOW to protect their Lavasnow Ethereum ASIC miner. If they are that misleading now, can you trust them not to secret mine? Why did they delay the introduction date from April to June? Could they be starting secret mining next week? Validation and feedback for a new dev tool Posted: 31 Mar 2019 02:07 AM PDT CONCEPT A easy to use, no-code platform where users can choose from smart contract templates ranging in different sectors, subsequently customize and deploy them MOTIVATION There are hundreds of (useful non-scam) dapps that have the potential to generate value. Mainstream adoption of Ethereum is in a way being furthered by their existence. These dapps are dependent on the blockchain developer ecosystem. It is my opinion that true power comes when individuals can create and execute heavily customized smart contracts among each other. I have come across several tools and websites that help users launch tokens (ICOs) where you can choose different properties you want to add to it such as making it burnable, pausable, mintable, timelocked, however none I could find that provide the functionality no/low code platforms such as Thunkable, webflow, lobe.ai provide in their respective spaces. The closest I could find is https://aragon.org POINT OF THE POST I wanted to understand from the community what priority would such a platform take and their views on it. Would also love if someone could link any website/ tools/ projects that offer something similar as I have not come across any. About Me: I am a blockchain developer, been in this space for 2 years now. I have done some PoCs with banks and supply chain companies in the past using Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric. When would ProgPOW be implemented if it is decided to go that route? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 06:02 PM PDT Just wondering what the timeline looks like if ProgPOW is moved forward with. Thanks! [link] [comments]
The argument that ProgPoW is still Ethash Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:05 AM PDT It has been proposed that ProgPoW should replace Ethash. Most notably the EIP itself describes this. This statement is confusing and wrong based the Ship of Theseus and the design rationale as the 'formal cause'. The algorithm Ethash evolved from a research process that included something called Dagger-Hashimoto. This is an algorithm that combines Dagger and Hashimoto, but was considered to have flaws. After further research and improvements (read about the history here), this eventually all rolled into specification revision 23 (aka 'Ethash'). The way this is phrased, it is suggested to consider any hashing algorithm that evolves from it and is used for the Ethereum mainnet to still be an increment of Ethash. So similar to the famous ship and in the style of Martin Swende who recently described the difference in his stance on ProgPow, it would be considered less confusing to describe ProgPoW as a revision of Ethash rather than a replacement. The changes can be referred to as revision numbers and a description of the part that has been updated like What are your thoughts on this? [link] [comments]

TerraGreen Blockchain Based Renewable Energy Platform https://terragreen.io/ Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:49 AM PDT More people now realize the need to embrace energy generations via renewable energy resources. However, the current market scenario does not allow the growth of renewable energy industry to take place rapidly, mainly due to bottlenecks in the supply, technology and financial sectors. Hence, the TerraGreen Platform envisions to mitigate all the bottlenecks and make it simpler and more economical to bring all the parties involved on a common platform. [link] [comments] |
