EthHub sits down with Bounties Network to discuss the future of the gig economy

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 07:34 AM PST

The Bounties Network empowers anyone to create a bounty to pay others for work they would like done. Simona Pop and Mark Beylin of Bounties join the folks at EthHub to have a back-and-forth about how humans are changing the way they self-organize and create incentives for themselves. 🤝

Working with u/owocki and the rest of the Gitcoin team, they have been able to easily create and fulfill tasks, and transact in any token on Ethereum with automated payments.

Ethereum Node Down in Pacific North West

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 04:49 PM PST

Hey folks, I've been trying to get an Azimuth point up at Opensea and have gotten an error. Their team says an Ethereum Node outage is effecting users in the PNW (going on days now).

I honestly know very little about nodes and how they effect users across geos.

Is this outage effecting anyone else? Is there any resolution?

Has anyone tried using the Beaker Browser?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 04:43 PM PST

I know this is an ethereum subreddit but I think this is on topic as a decentralized browser discussion. It doesnt use any blockchain but more of a BitTorrent like way of sharing files.

Has anyone else messed around with this? Compared to like status browser etc... They are alot different.

Anyways just wondering if anyone thinks this could be a "competitor" or if ethereum wallets such as meta mask could be integrated into this. I think it could be very cool. However I am also somewhat of a cynic and I dont think people actually want a decentralized web but just want crypto integrated into our pre existing infrastructure for many reasons, one of the main ones would be there own monetary gain.

    Tldr: beaker browser... Any thoughts?

What to expect from EDCON2019 - a preview on the topics of EDCON speeches #1

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 03:13 AM PST

What to expect from EDCON2019 - a preview on the topics of EDCON speeches #1

What attending events in the crypto space means to most of us is that, it is a perfect chance to get the most up-to-date info. about leading and emerging projects, be it their technology progress or their business and community development roadmaps.

    https://i.redd.it/7ddoyb62gak21.png

So EDCON team would like to make a series announcements about the main contents of the speech of our speakers, which might be the biggest concern to most of our attendees.

    #1

    Speaker: Aditya Asgaonkar @Ethereum Foundation

Topic: Towards a Practical CBC Casper

Main content: Aditya will begin by introducing the basic Casper CBC protocol, and describe one of the blockchain fork-choice examples. Then, he will discuss the complexities involved in the implementation of the protocol for that particular blockchain case. The talk will be quite technical, concerning efficient algorithms to detect which block is safe etc. At the end, he will discuss some points from the Casper CBC roadmap, and how community members can get involved and contribute.

    #2

    Speaker: Alex Gluchowski @Ethereum Foundation

Topic: Scaling with Zero Knowledge Proofs

Main content: Alex would like to talk about their zkSNARK-based Plasma implementation: https://medium.com/plasma-ignis/presenting-ignis-plasma-of-fire-502fab5a6f17

    #3

    Speaker: Virgil Griffith @Ethereum Foundation

Topic: Special Projects at Ethereum Foundation

Main content: Virgil would like to give a short talk on Special Projects from Ethereum Foundation. Probably 20min with 10min Q&A.

    #4

    Speaker: Georgios Konstantopoulos @Loom Network

    Topic: The year in Plasma

Main content: Georgios will provide a progress update on Plasma over last year, what works and what doesn't etc.

    #5

Speaker: Adrian Li @Truffle / Consensys

Topic: Interacting with Smart Contracts in Streams

Main content: The decentralization of the blockchain makes it difficult to reason about interacting with smart contracts. The team has created a library based on streams to allow developers to easily subscribe to events happening on the blockchain. Brought to you by the same team that built Truffle, the popular development tool.

    #6

    Speaker: Wei Tang @Parity

    Topic: Debugging the Consensus

Main content: Wei will be focusing on reflections and lessons learned for the past two Constantinople delays and how we handled consensus bugs.

    #7

Speaker: Paul Hauner & Adrian Manning @ Sigma PrimeTopic:

    Lighthouse: Towards Ethereum 2.0

Main content: They would like to give a talk about some of the more technical aspects of the client / design architecture, or alternatively some aspects of the current security space in Ethereum.

    #8

    Speaker: Adrian Eidelman @Rootstock

Topic: What is RSK (Rootstock) and how it's contributing to the Ethereum community

Main content: Adrian will give a brief introduction to RSK and how they are collaborating in different projects in the Ethereum Ecosystem. He'd also like to present their Grants program for developers.

    #9

    Speaker: Sergey Nazarov @Chainlink

Topic: Decentralized Oracles: Reliably Triggering Smart Contracts using Decentralized Computation and Trusted Execution Environments

Main content: In this talk, he'll define and examine what makes a secure oracle mechanism reliable enough to be used by smart contracts for external data delivery, access to web APIs and off-chain payments. He will also review the security risks and failure scenarios to avoid when using oracles and share how developers should set up methods to maximize success. He'll look at how a decentralized oracle network can make oracle mechanisms more secure. Finally, he will present an in-depth approach that applies additional layers of security through the use of Trusted Execution Environments and cutting edge approaches such as TownCrier.

    #10

    Speaker: Wuwei Zhang @AlphaWallet

Topic: Token Behaviour Markup Language(TBML): the "HTML+Javascript" for tokens

Main content: Currently, DApp can't accept a lot of tokens in one go and tokens have to gain support by convincing each DApp to explicitly support it. We need a layer for tokens to be used on various websites. Dapp developers can benefit from a uniformed, comprehensive interface for manipulating tokens, while token developers get to abstract their token behaviour code so they can interact with more DApps. This keynote will focus on tokenisation and introduce a standardisation effort known as TBML (Token Behaviour Markup Language) which will make the blockchain technical stack complete, providing utility for the economy and the internet. By virtue of TBML being a solution layer rather than base-layer technologies like Ethereum and Plasma, they choose to introduce the technology by example and provide rich business-context based discussion for a broader spectrum of audience.

Live AMA with Rahilla Zafar, the Managing Director at ConsenSys (Mar 8th; 2-3pm EST) ‍♀️

    Posted: 04 Mar 2019 09:39 PM PST

Rahilla will be taking over this Socialite handle on Friday to answer questions about her experience with advancing societies through blockchain technology and the role of diversity in Web3.

The AMA will take place here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ConsenSys/comments/axe59q/i_am_rahilla_zafar_managing_director_at_consensys/

She's an integral part of the blockchain landscape, working with the likes of Dr. Aisha bin Bishr, director of the Smart Dubai Office, to help drive ConsenSys to be named the city's blockchain advisor. (Dubai was the first city to mandate a blockchain initiative)

Rahilla's also on the RadicalxChange team (that includes Glen Weyl, u/vbuterin, and many others) where she leads a community dedicated to expanding competitive, free and open market mechanisms.

Lastly, she serves as a member of the Global Board of Trustees for the Digital Future Society, a global think tank that connects policymakers and organizations with the mission of engaging with the legal/ethical challenges & opportunities of digital transformation founded by the government of Spain and Mobile World Congress.

This is just a snipped of all that she's done, but you can ask her about it during the AMA 🙋‍♂️

Here are links to two books that she's co-authored as well 📚

PS: Ask questions here or on the AMA subreddit and she'll get to them once she's on from 2:00-3:00 EST this Friday, March 8th.
