Earlier this week a crypto exchange revealed that they are unable to access ~26,500 Bitcoin that were in their possession. That means there are 26,500 less BTC available of the 21M total created. Eventually everyone will understand scarcity.

ECDSA - R and S being the same for different Zs

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 03:08 AM PST

    Hi you all

I notice some transactions that have the same R and S values for signature, despite having a different message Z:

    Example 1:

    Transaction 1:

As we know, S = ( Z + privKey * R) / sk . As privKey, R and sk are the same in both examples, a different Z should result in a different S. Does someone knows how these transactions got the same S?

I can only think of sk not being the same for both transactions, which means their public keys are symmetrical (as R is the same). This is improbable by itself, but resulting in the same S is even less probable.

PS1: These addresses are not mine. They are in the blockchain.

PS2: This is only a mathematical curiosity of mine.

    PS3: Nice console :-)

Proof of Keys doesn’t sound so extreme with two-factor authentication used as a vulnerability. I don’t see much of a future for Banks, but there’s a lot to be said about the #Bankchain
