Countries want to get away from SWIFT because the US uses it as political leverage; How would Ripple/XRP change this?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2018 06:18 PM PST

I was reading that some countries want to get away from SWIFT because the US leverages it politically by blocking, or threatening to block countries from using it.

I confirmed by finding an article which state that the US had threatened to block SWIFT to China in September over North Korea. I found another that mentioned that a few banks in Iran were blocked in November.

I think it's safe to conclude that even countries who haven't been threatened or blocked, would also be motivated to find a solution which didn't leave their intl banking infrastructure at the mercy of US relations.

Based on this "problem", would Ripple's products be an acceptable solution given they are a US based company? (i.e. if the US somehow mandated that Ripple could not do business with Iran, would Iran still be able to use the system?)

If not, am I right in thinking a non-Ripple company (like R3, but not US based) would be able to develop their own solution that settles in XRP? Then in this case, does it make sense the US would simply restrict institutions from doing business with the other country?

If my logic is still coherent, then I think it's a win win. US could maintain control over who institutions do business with (allowing them to regulate), and if they did implement restrictions, it wouldn't cripple the other countries from going about their business, except with the US itself.

My investment strategy is to obtain as much xrp while under a dollar. Fortunate to get in before the bull run. I purchase, put it on a ledger and store it for the long hold. No matter the price fluctuations I still buy as I view xrp under a dollar as filthy cheap. Planning on holding for 10+ years.

Does anyone else have this strategy. If so what point will you stop buying?

Is this a stupid way of investing? I've literally had people laugh at me for buying into crypto. I've done my research on ripple and xrp for a while.

Decoupling XRP from BTC requires exchanges cooperation

    Posted: 16 Dec 2018 09:17 AM PST

The existence of XRP/BTC and XRP to crypto markets on fiat exchanges is the main reason for the coupling we have been experiencing.

For example, if I held BTC and wanted to sell for fiat, I would normally go direct to the BTC/fiat market and sell there. However if that drops sufficiently, there comes a price where it is actually cheaper for me to sell my BTC and buy XRP, and then sell my XRP for fiat. This indirect route will be used until the price of XRP drops sufficiently to make the direct route the cheapest again. This is the whole reason we are coupled, and why all crypto markets are coupled.

We really need the fiat exchanges to only list fiat pairings with XRP, and not have any other XRP to crypto pairings. Obviously this is not in their interest, so we have to vote with our wallets and not partake in any XRP/crypto markets on fiat exchanges. That won't happen either, but thanks anways!

    Question about Nostro/Vostro Accounts

    Posted: 16 Dec 2018 03:39 PM PST

I don't have much more knowledge about global economics or monetary policy than what's typically taught in your average intro to Econ college classes, but I enjoy thinking about and discussing these topics. So, at the risk of sounding ignorant, here's my question:

When X-rapid frees up the money held in nostro & vostro accounts, what will be the impact on the economy?

The way I see it, banks really only do one thing with money and that's lend it. So if suddenly banks collectively find themselves with $27 T (the number I've heard floating around) in "extra" money, they would just loan it out. But with such an unprecedented increase in the supply of money, the only way they could compete with each other is to drop interest rates charged to borrowers to effectively zero.

This would basically mean free money for all. If the supply of money undergoes such a sharp increase, while the human value of goods and services, as well as the population, remain relatively the same, aren't we looking at the worst global hyperinflation in history?

    • Sorry if this has already been discussed. I searched the sub and didn't find much, but I may have missed it.

Will Brad announce that some big bank(s) are using or will be going live with xrapid?

If so will this create fomo or will the price continue to drop like any other good news?

    Crypto Stats : Ripple (XRP)

How many (%) use Ripple's validators instead of any third-party? This is more important than if there are thousands of non-Ripple validators.

    Posted: 15 Dec 2018 10:52 PM PST

Title. Should be possible to look up. I hold XRP but honestly, it doesn't matter if there are thousands of third-party validators if people only use the ones from Ripple. I am guessing default nodes will be Ripple and not any random one from the recommended list.
