Peer to Peer Social Network powered by Litecoin Posted: 07 Dec 2018 04:40 AM PST Hello everyone. Today I would like to give a brief outline of something I've been thinking about recently. The idea is that of a peer to peer social network. By combining features seen in common torrent software along with the Litecoin payment system it would be possible to create a decentralized, incentive-based, self-sustaining social media network. This network would be resistant to censorship and centralized attacks from hackers, governments, etc. Users would largely retain control over their profiles and data. I would like to start from the user's perspective. The user would have a profile hosted on their home computer or on an internet-based profile host. This profile would be paired to a unique address, which would allow many individual profiles for people with similar user names. The profile would be encrypted, and access to this profile would only be granted under certain conditions as determined by the owner of the profile. These conditions could include connection acceptance by the profile owner, invitation-only, connection based on a paid fee, connections only from the local network, connections only from a given Node, or many other possibilities. The user would then post content to their profile which would then be accessible by other connected profiles. This content again could be specifically limited based upon certain rules. One user who only connects to friends and family may allow all connected profiles to see all content, and another user who connects with media consumers may require a fee to be paid to see each individual piece of content. How will these profiles connect to each other? They may connect through an ad-hoc arrangement, or through a Node. Ad-hoc may require open ports on the user's network in order to accept incoming connections. For users unwilling or unable to open internet-facing ports they may connect to a Node which would accept incoming connections on their behalf. Nodes would be public or private, free or feed, and index the profiles connected to them. They would act like profile neighborhoods. They may share this index information with other Nodes, or only allow connected profiles to access the index information. Nodes could receive fees from other nodes in exchange for interconnect service or index information. Profiles may also be hosted by various providers for free or for a fee. Hosted profiles may feature benefits like 24/7/365 uptime regardless of a user's local internet connection or system uptime. Examples. Profile 1 wants to connect to Profile 2 through Node 1. Node 1 has an interconnect fee of 1 Litoshi with a duration of 24 hours. Profile 1 would send a request to Profile 2 and if the request is accepted the Node would receive the fee and allow traffic to pass back and forth. This fee may be paid entirely by one Profile, or shared between the two, depending on Profile preference. At the end of the 24 hours the profiles would again need to pay the agreed fee in order to maintain the connection. Now say the same Profile 1 (P1) to Node 1 (N1) to Profile 2 (P2) situation is in play, but P1 is a content consumer and P2 is a content provider. P1 may pay a fee to P2 on top of the fee to N1 in order to gain access to the profile. P1 may also pay a fee to P2 to see individual pieces of content like images or videos, etc. I hope you all find this interesting and look forward to the discussion. Thanks for reading! :) [link] [comments] | ||
