This is not a post like 'why the price crash was good for bitcoin', this was originally posted on r/btc

The recent split was not simply a split of the blockchain but a split of the community. It caused a lot of infighting, not civil debate. It even split the friendly meetup I recently went to. I hate to see the userbase shrink, I only want to see it grow, no negative adoption, like we all do.

so the cost of the split& damage done should be obvious, but are there positives to what happened? How can these benefits outweigh the cost?!

Well the BCH community still seems divided but that's mostly because this sub (and r/btc) gets trolled. In reality it is not. The community has realigned itself. Who is still here now, at current prices, is here because principles. Not because money and not because Bitcoin Cash is 'the popular community' by any stretch.

principles are everything.

the split was not because technical differences, it was an ideological one. The features in the upgrade are used as excuses.

so what was the difference in ideology? Let's take a look at what the BSV side is, that shows us what BCH is not and tries to avoid.

BSV is:

purist, bitcoin v0.1
very pro-state
tyrannical, wanting to dominate
partly a personality cult
pro-centralized control&development
pro-centralized mining
demonizing Jihan,Amaury&Roger

The BSV chain is more significant than most had hoped&expected. But it does not matter, they compromised on the principles. The chain won't 'die' so please stop saying so. I'd argue it is good the purists have there own version they can experiment with. economic freedom, choice, competition. Too bad their ideological experiment is hijacked/lead by a tyrannical fraud.

I do not think we will see a relevant split again for years because we survived the most fundamental technical and ideological splits. But who knows, but if there's 1 thing that should be obvious because of all these 'attacks' is that we we've got something incredibly powerful&valuable here.
