Ethereum on ARM. Preparing for the Constantinople hardfork. Posted: 10 Dec 2018 02:07 AM PST EthArmbian [1] is a custom Linux image for the NanoPC-T4 ARM SoC [2] that runs Geth or Parity Ethereum clients as a boot service and automatically turns the device into an full Ethereum node. Once powered on, the image takes care of all steps, from setting up the environment, to running the Ethereum software to synchronizing the blockchain. Hi. This is the pre-release of the Constantinople EthArmbian image that will be ready on January 2019. Changelog:
Note that Parity is no longer providing binaries for the ARM architecture so it is now cross compiled by me [3] Download linkArmbian_5.67_Nanopct4_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.166.img.zip For install instructions please visit Github README [1] Planned improvementsAPT Repo. It seems clear that an easy way of updating the client is needed. I'm looking into the possibility of setting up an APT repo for including Geth and Parity packages. This would make trivial the update by running the apt-get update command. Other Ethereum clients: I've been doing some tests with the Ethereum Trinity client [4] and, although it runs, it's not yet ready to be included on the image (most likely it will included in the next release for testing purposes). Basic node monitoring. Systemd takes care of the Ethereum client process and respawn it if it gets killed or the board reboots, but lots of unexpected things can happen (blackout, kernel panic, router malfunctioning… ). A very simple (but effective) way of monitoring the node is by setting up a network app [5] on your phone that checks if the Ethereum service is alive (and raise a notification if something happens). I'll post a tutorial shortly on github. Other ARM Boards: There are other interesting boards being released such as RockPRO64 [6] that could easily run both Geth or Parity clients. Most of them are Rockchip 3399 based so it will be much more easier to support them. Prep for Constantinople upgrade / hard fork. Posted: 10 Dec 2018 08:13 AM PST Do we need to do anything with our tokens to make sure they are protected during the upcoming hard fork? Don't really want to consign them all to history. Do I need to be running a full node? [link] [comments] | ||

Is there any need for Ethereum to develop a virtual machine runtime like Elastos? Posted: 10 Dec 2018 12:28 PM PST Or does this not even work with the way Ethereum is built? Thanks [link] [comments] |
