    Week in Ethereum is out!

Just learned about ERC865 which will let users pay tx fees in ERC20 but the final gas is still paid in ETH

    Posted: 24 Nov 2018 12:28 AM PST

    Simple Summary

Ability for token holders to pay transfer transactions in tokens instead of gas, in one transaction.

    Abstract

The following describes one standard function a token contract can implement to allow a user to delegate transfer of tokens to a third party. The third party pays for the gas, and takes a fee in tokens.

This would be a huge update, people will be able to have a DAI wallet, earn interest with the Dai Saving Rate system and pay their tx fees without having the feeling to interact with the Ethereum Blockchain but the final tx fee is still being paid in ETH which preserves its utility. This is the future of finance.

what happens to fiat-backed stablecoins like GUSD and USDC when the fiat devalues? does this make multi-collateral stablecoins a safer bet?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2018 06:42 PM PST

Maybe an obvious question but I was wondering what happens to stable coins such as Gemini Dollar and USD Coin when the dollar drops by 30%? I imagine the depreciation to happen over a period of 1-3 years but it's still a decline. It seems like future iterations of DAI which will have several assets backing it seems like a safer alternative (albeit not without its own risks I guess)?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

What does deploying software infrastructure on ethereum look like?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2018 12:01 PM PST

I'm a developer. I enjoy working on projects which have a microservice architecture. In order to maintain ownership of the work I do and not be bound to a particular iaas provider, I rely on a suite of tools related to kubernetes and docker.

what I don't grasp about the ethereum network is what level of support it will eventually provide people like me. is the eth network merely something I will leverage for the execution of auditable and fair digital contracts? or is the goal to provide me with a platform I can deploy all of my containerized services to? or something in between, where deploying my services would be to something running on top of the ethereum network? Will the successful completion of the eth network represent a massive leap forward in the area of edge computing? Will I have to ditch all my old relational databases and software and rewrite everything in Scala? Would I want eth to host my static resources as well?

I know this is quite a pile of questions, and I'm not looking to have them all answered. I just want to get a sense of what the ethereum network is attempting to ultimately become.

There is a lot of doom and gloom in the Ethereum space at the moment, but there is a lot of momentum that doesn't get as much press regarding dApp adoption.

When will we know 32 ETH for POS is the final number?

Thinking about making this happen but don't want the number to change to 500 all of a sudden. Anybody know a time line for these decisions?
