The guy who made the $1,000 bet that BTC wouldn't drop below $5,000 this year seemingly abandoned his Reddit account on the day BTC dropped below that marker

    Posted: 23 Nov 2018 09:01 PM PST

We all know about the original post; it was a huge deal on this sub. It can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/94b9d9/everyone_saying_btc_is_going_to_3000_is_new_and/

Essentially, /u/dieyoung called us all idiots for even suggesting that BTC might dip below $5,000. He challenged anyone to accept a $1,000 prop bet that BTC would stay above that price all year. u/goodwill_cunting accepted the wager.

As his Reddit history shows, after his initial post, he was an active daily user--until the day BTC dropped below $5,000 and he lost the bet. After that? No posts. No comments. Nothing.

u/goodwill_cunting has indicated in a comment that he has received no word from u/dieyoung.

    Really shameful behavior.

Am I crazy for buying more at these prices?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2018 02:16 PM PST

So am I crazy for buying more at these prices? Got my average down to a nice level but of course this is only if the market doesn't tank anymore. Anyone else buying at these prices or am I being a clown?

Any opinions on overall market and how you see it in the next month or so. Just curious as to what others around here are doing and if I'm the only jackass buying more haha.

A reply to the popular post with monkeys from someone that has been here from the beginning

    Posted: 24 Nov 2018 01:25 AM PST

I want to dissect the error at the thinking of that post. It is the general principle of the markets that you sell to a higher bidder and sometimes you buy it just to do that. That's how markets work. Crashes happen always. When crashes happen, we have people panic selling and a lot of people posting posts like these to signify that people that lost their money are sheep, monkeys, idiots, exploited and the list goes on.

This is partly true. In the example the villagers got scammed. But they will only lose money if they bought something that has no inherent value. Otherwise at some point they will find buyers because eventually the value of everything goes up because it's how the capitalist economic system we have now works and holding assets no matter when you bought them in general makes you profits. In the example, if the original buyer doesn't buy you are screwed.

Binary conclusion (since I am a programmer)

    • If you buy something that you personally believe has no value whatsoever just to resell it you lose your money. You should stop reading this thread and in general avoid crypto.
    • If you buy something that has value and you are stuck with it due to market crash or lack of current buyers, at some point in time you will make your money back and most probably with interest.

Avoid emotional posts coming from "prophets", "experts", people telling you how stupid you are.

Comparison of rich lists before, during and after a crash

    Posted: 23 Nov 2018 05:03 PM PST

    Hey there,

anyone knows if such statistics exist? Would be interesting to see if some of the rich sell off during crashes or lots of "poor" making panic sells.

I think it would be good if the riches were the ones selling, so the cryptos would be more spreaded. On the other hand, as long as only the poor ones selling, it is quite safe to say that the market will recover.
