TO THE MODS: Can we please try and clean up the amount of shitty "news" sites that are getting spammed here?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2018 01:38 AM PST

I'm getting really tired of seeing the same shitty websites create "news" stories about things that are completely subjective or are a rehash of news that happened days/weeks ago.

Is anyone else tired of the same thing?

EDIT: I just went through the first 3 pages of /r/cc and found 2 legitimate news links. 1 was a medium blog post from a well known crypto giving a update on development, 1 was a link to an article that linked an SEC report regarding cryptos. The latter could have just been directly linked instead. I'm firmly of the opinion now that most if not all of the news links should be removed.

I'm a simple dude, I don't buy a lot of stuff for my self, nothing fancy. I'm not materialistic at all or care about having a lot of money..

No debts in life, all my bills get paid.

Anyone else living the same life?

Dutch childrens program explains that bitcoin is better then banks

    Posted: 04 Nov 2018 02:31 AM PST

Today i saw for the second time in half a year that a childrens program explained how bitcoin works and why it is better then banks. They even went so far to claim that in a few years money Will be useless because everybody Will use btc because it is safer and better managable.

The funny thing is that my Son of 5 year understood the explenation and asked me why we still have banks and not btc. Through this sort of programs the next generation Will be influenced and my guess is that in 10 years buying goods with btc or other crypto is more common then using fiat.

For the dutch spreaking the program is called willemwever.

Taxing crypto - crypto transactions in USD is fundamentally unfair

    Posted: 04 Nov 2018 01:24 AM PDT

    Here's a situation.

Someone is trading between coins on an exchange that has no fiat money facilities.

This ends up counting as a taxable event, so the person must then go register with another exchange that has USD facilities, send their ID, sell coins and withdraw on that new exchange just to cover their tax.

All that needs to happen to make this fair is to keep the original purchase price as the new cost basis for any future coins you acquire.

In the end you will pay the same amount of tax when you finally go to USD.

Or another situation could be allowing these taxes to be paid in the coins themselves. If an agency wants to tax us playing with these internet tokens because they are valuable, then accept these tokens directly and stop making us find and use USD exchange.

Bitcoin was created in 2008, the same year we experienced a tremendous global recession. In short, cryptocurrencies are so young they haven't weathered a single global recession yet. Thoughts?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2018 02:32 AM PST

Just a thought that came into my mind. Literally no one knows if things would go to hell in a handbag, or what the actual effect would be. The current upswing is close to being the longest in history, too, so a lot of people are saying we are "due" for a downturn soon. It's nearly impossible to predict what will happen.

Substratum dev claims over "2 MILLION lines of code" on GitHub. Counter API shows less than 32,000 lines.

Substratum dev claims over "2 MILLION lines of code" on GitHub. Counter API shows less than 32,000 lines.

B.J. Allmon is a Substratum dev who tweeted about 2 million lines of code on the Substratum GitHub repo.

    https://i.redd.it/51zlrapq14w11.png

There are various tools that can be used to count lines of code in GitHub repos. Count LOC is a popular one. Running the SubstratumNode repo through Count LOC results in 32,000 lines of code. Other tools count even less. Where is the 2 million figure coming from, and why did a Substratum dev choose to misrepresent progress by inflating reality over 62.5x?
