Need help or at least some insight with my problematic 6th slot

    Posted: 11 Oct 2018 02:35 AM PDT

Need some help, or at least some insight to my problem. So to cut it short.

I have rx 570 x6 rig, the problem i keep experiencing is the sixth gpu always hang up. the gpu im using is asus strix (elpida memory + couple hynix) thing i had tried is as follow

    1. Running with stock base bios - hang up straight away
    2. Running with some modded bios - either straight hang up or ran for shortest 10 minutes to longest 2 days
    3. replace riser - did it 4 times still same issue
    4. replace motherboard - did it once some problem
    5. replace the 6th with another gpu from another slot - every single of them hang up
    6. reinstall windows - hanging up
    7. using hiveos - also hang up
    8. replacing psu - still hang up
    9. RMA the 6th gpu - the new one also hang up with stock bios
    10. tried all available miner software for ETH and CN - also hang up Claymore give best result so far
    11. running stock clock, voltage, memory - hang up straight away

as frustrated as now, i managed to persuade a friend of mine also a miner and installing all of my gpu on his rig and to my surprise all of them work flawlessly (i didn't try the opposite). also the thing is when i borrowed one of his gpu and placed it into the 6th slot on my rig it work out of the box. Can anyone give me some insight about whats going on, am i cursed or is this particular strix card just doesn't want to work on the 6th slot

also the 6th slot always have lower hashrate than it does on another slot around 1.5 mhs

    GPU fan repair

I have oiled many computer fans but never had one sealed like this. The fan is stiff so I wanted to open and oil it.

Anyone have an easy way to open these "plugs"?

    Golem Unlimited - Demo Video

No video on AMD cards (7970 and 560)

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 02:10 PM PDT

    Hi fellow miners,

I recently bought a few used rigs and I can't get some of them to work. One had 4 7970 GPUs, I only got 2 of them to work. Other two (either one) will not display any video when plugged in and would not allow the machine to boot. I tried risers, no risers, powered risers, different PSUs, different motherboards - nothing. I understand they may be busted, but two cards of the same type while two other cards are good? Fans rotate, machines look alive, just don't boot and show nothing on the screen.

Same situation with a 6x rig of RX 560s. 2 of them would show video, only on one motherboard, others would not, but with some motherboards none of them display anything and don't allow machine to boot. Could they have custom BIOS? Is there a setting in motherboard BIOS that I should turn on? I'm just really surprised that out of 6 cards 4 could be busted.

    Any help is appreciated.

How safe are 8pin splitters? [I need real mental and physical help]

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 10:33 AM PDT

    Hey all,

So the SATA riser issue has been bugging me all day...

    I'm running an EVGA P2 1200w and 6x 1070s. The risers are 6 pin.

The EVGA has 6 VGA out's. 4 of them are 8pin. The other two are 8pin+6pin.

So luckily for me, I don't have enough PCIe connectors to power the GPUs and the Risers.

The most logical option seems an 8 pin to 8 pin splitter?

But just as the SATA power cables are poorly made, I'm sure the majority of the 8pin splitters are too?

Or what are my other options? Obviously, I don't want to spend a bunch changing risers.

    so much TIA

EDIT: Of course by the way I totally freaked out when I saw that SATA POWER was a nono. I've had 4 mines running in the house for over a year like this... 😕
