Posted: 31 Oct 2018 07:26 PM PDT I've been following Ethereum for about 2 years now and lately I've been wondering how I can actually get involved/use my training to help this space continue progressing towards mass adoption (we all should be thinking about this). Progress often seems slow in the moment but it's inspiring to look back 6 months or 1 year from today every now and then and just admire the seemingly exponential progression that results from the intelligent and dedicated minds in this space. With that said, there's tons of very powerful people and organizations who would love to keep things status quo and enact laws or use existing laws to knock crypto/ethereum down. We need to keep pushing forward. I've been thinking about how I can help this space grow from a legal perspective. For example, what Ethereum/crypto-related projects or organizations would need the perspective or skills of a lawyer? The Ethereum Foundation? Consensys? ICO projects? Are there law related organizations dedicated to crypto? On a broader note, from the US legal perspective, there's tons of talk of regulation needed for the crypto space. Ok, but who's facilitating and writing that legislation? What about tax law? Last year the change of the "like kinded exchange" provision in the tax bill really hindered the free flow of cryptocurrencies. Every exchange between USD and crypto, or between coins, is a taxable event? Having to keep track of every exchange hinders mass adoption and the free flow of cryptocurrencies. Also, why are all purchases subject to capital gains tax? No exemption for purchases under a certain amount? We need dedicated laws written for cryptocurrencies. What organizations are working to get that law written and enacted? [link] [comments] | ||

Geth "fast" sync mode is too slow, can I use Parity "warp" sync instead? Posted: 31 Oct 2018 03:22 PM PDT I'm trying to run a JSON-RPC server in "fast" sync mode with Geth but it's only downloaded about 800 MB in two days. So I wonder whether running Parity instead, in warp sync mode, is faster. Also I'd like to be able to retrieve transaction information in the same way like with Geth's fast sync mode, as opposite to its light mode, which doesn't allow to do that, but using Parity instead.
