Thread topics include, but are not limited to:

    • Discussion related to recent events
    • Technical analysis, trading ideas & strategies
    • General questions about altcoins

    Thread guidelines:

    • Be excellent to each other.
    • All regular rules for this subreddit apply, except for number 2. This, and only this, thread is exempt from the requirement that all discussion must relate to bitcoin trading.
    • This is for high quality discussion of altcoins. All shilling or obvious pumping/dumping behavior will result in an immediate one day ban. This is your only warning.
    • No discussion about specific ICOs. Established coins only.

If you're not sure what kind of discussion belongs in this thread, here are some example posts. News, TA, and sentiment analysis are great, too.

What Will BTC Be Worth By 2020?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:08 AM PDT

I wanted to get a discussion going regarding the recent IIB article which compiled a list of "expert" opinions on BTC's price by 2020.

Prices listed generally ranged from $10,000 - $60,000.

Personally, I think long term BTC will definitely get there, but I think people got hit too hard, and things need more time to recover than most of us think.

I'm expecting the next bull run to still be 3-4 years off. With the price fluctuating between the 5k-15k range until then. Thoughts?

New Bithumb owners want to open Bithumb Dex

    Posted: 11 Oct 2018 06:56 PM PDT

    https://thenews.asia/en/2018/10/12/bithumb-sold-for-353-million-to-bk-global-consortium/

Bithumb has been sold to Singapore-based BK Global Consortium. Although it has been curiously removed from global rankings, Bithumb has been one of the world's busiest cryptocurrency exchanges since late last year. The price paid for the exchange, about $353mn, is much lower than an appraisal made in early February, 2018, of about $880mn.

They plan to open 'Bithumb Dex' through their Hong Kong subsidiary this month. It is a decentralized exchange. The Hong Kong-based Dex will enable users around the world to send and receive virtual currency more smoothly. Also the existing problem of hacking, especially apparent in Korean exchanges, can presumably be solved easier on a Dex.

How automated trading bots trick you into paying higher coin prices ? Because if you aren’t aware of this, you as an investor end up paying a higher price for your coins.

    Posted: 12 Oct 2018 04:15 AM PDT

    Check out this video: https://blog.coinfi.com/how-bots-trick-you-into-paying-higher-coin-prices/

The video shows you how to detect automated bots that place orders automatically and trade ahead of you at your expense.

    So why is this important?

Because if you aren't aware of this, you as an investor end up paying a higher price for your coins.

Maybe you're thinking: my coins are going to the moon anyways, why should I care about overpaying by a few % points?

The answer is everyone is a genius in a bull market – its easy to confuse a market run up with investing skill. But if you're serious about getting positive expected value from your crypto investments – you need to be looking for positive ROI wherever you can find it so you can trade successfully in bull and bear markets.

Can you imagine professional traders happily paying a few % points extra on each transaction? Of course not, they squeeze out every basis point of cost-reduction they can find.

You can test it yourself by placing some orders, big or small, on the orderbook and the bots are apparently there!

Bitcoin would survive, even in this crazy market

    Posted: 12 Oct 2018 01:41 AM PDT

Though no one can predict the future, it's interesting to look at the different possibilities on Bitcoin's future in a scenario when prices crash.

Although there is always a theoretical possibility that Bitcoin would one day cease to exists, it is hard to envision such a revolutionary technology being extinct. Given the absence of any fundamental defects since its inception as well as a strong, ideological community, it is unlikely that a temporary price crash would deter the majority of network participants.
