PSA: The sub has been under attack by various bad actors since it's inception. Always think independently and critically when reading posts here.

Mods here shouldn't have to make posts like this but there are times when the attacks are heightened that we feel we need to make a post and warn the casual reader here. Most regulars already know this, but for those who don't, please note:

Since this sub was rebooted after the 2015 purge of /r/bitcoin and massive censorship in that sub to stop anyone from discussing opinions that the mods didn't agree with, this sub has been targeted by bad actors. They attack us because we are a free speech sub. We hold true to Satoshi's vision of Bitcoin, a censorship resistent global p2p decentralized electronic cash system.

The attacks here have come in many forms. From comment manipulation, hacks, malware, scams, vote cheating, Sybil attacks, abuse, spam/floods, brigading (hate mobs), hiring trolls to disrupt, misinformation, and more. Here are just a few examples, in the order I found them.

Over the past three years there have been many more examples. This is is just what I found when searching for ~10 minutes. I'm sure I missed some but you get the idea. This sub is always under attack in different ways. So thinking critically means not taking anything on surface value, but using different resources to evaluate each claim independently for yourself: DYOR (Do Your Own Research).

In this sub mods do our best to foster free speech, not censor, and at the same time have a community that is welcoming. At times this can be tough and often is a balancing act, but we try to apply any moderation we do have fairly across the board. Remember, we are human and not perfect and make mistakes. If something doesn't sit right with you, let us know through mod mail or a public post to the sub.

We don't have many sub rules, but the ones we do have we do enforce, which are listed in the sidebar for anyone to read. We also have public moderator logs, which anyone can view and see for themselves what the mods here are doing, as opposed to other subs that don't have public mod logs and then try to come here and point their finger at us as if we're the censors. To them, I say open your modlogs or don't come here making accusations until you do.

Stress Test 2018 Results: Remove the Blocksize Limit Wholly

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 01:34 AM PDT

We should remove the blocksize limit.

The stress test of 2018 shows that miners already soft cap their blocks.

There is no reason we should not have a free market economy in bitcoin itself.

    Patentability of Wright's "inventions"

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 07:42 PM PDT

I wonder if the uptick in Wright fanaticism is compensation for the failure rate of his patent applications to pass muster with the International Search Authority. Below are a just a few examples of Written Opinions from patent examiners on the patentability of Wright's many "inventions". While participating regional patent authorities are not required to follow or even consider the opinions of the ISA, they serve as a pretty good baseline for what one might expect when filing with those bodies. That's gotta be a pretty big hit to Wright's narcissistic ego.

Please send me your full node debug.log files from the stress test

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 01:45 PM PDT

I'd like to do some analysis of block propagation and block validation performance during the stress test, and I need some data. Can you give me yours?

Specifically, I need ~/.bitcoin/debug.log files from as many different nodes as possible.

Just sending me a link to your debug.log file is sufficient.

But if you want to help me out a little more, I would appreciate it if you can rename the files so that they include your node's IP address, like so:

    debug-85.230.89.116.log meta-85.230.89.116.txt

The meta files are for any human-readable information you want to include about your nodes, like

    1. CPU type
    2. RAM
    3. SSD
    4. Location
    5. Bandwidth
    6. VPS or dedicated
    7. dbcache setting
    8. IP address:

If you have any other data that you've collected, such as CPU usage statistics or bandwidth monitoring data, feel free to give me a link for that as well.

If you want to not post any of this publicly, you may email me at jATtoomDOTim and tell me which (meta-)data you want me to not repeat without permission.

If anyone else wants to look through this data, let me know and I will put it all in a public repository somewhere.

Some early preliminary results show that block propagation for some of these blocks is taking more than 10 seconds for a block that only took 100-200 ms to verify. As expected, block propagation is the slowest part of the process with the possible exception of AcceptToMemoryPool.

If you don't have a log yourself, you can still help with collecting data by voting this post upward for visibility.

In 20 days Fivebucks has issued payouts to freelancers from Venezuela, Vietnam, Algeria, Indonesia, Cameroon & more. This wouldnt have been possible w/o BCH and Fivebucks wouldn't have been w/o Bitcoin.com, Cashpay, Coinbase Commerce & this beautiful uncensored community! We wanted to say THANK YOU!

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 01:06 PM PDT

Every time we issue payouts to freelancers all over the globe we experience a magic feeling, the feeling of uncensored peer to peer digital cash. We wanted to thank everyone without whom this wouldn't have been possible. Thank you to Coinbase Commerce for making our lives easier, most of us had never worked with Bitcoin before and didn't know from where to start with payments. Thank you to bitcoin.com for having educated so many people about bitcoin. When we advertise to normal users a lot have already heard of bitcoin BCH, this makes it much easier for us to break the ice. We wanted to say thank you to Cashpay and Cryptonize.it, for making the lives of our freelancers very easy by allowing them to spend their earnings directly online. Last but not least, we wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to this beautiful and censorship resistant community where we keep learning new things about Bitcoin every day. We wanted to thank /r/btc also for all your feedback and support. A big thank also to the /r/btc mods who have the most difficult task on earth, that of moderating the biggest decentralised & uncensored bitcoin community on the planet.

Thank you and Bitcoin BCH FTW!
