Michael Arrington: "We received a second subpeona from the SEC, again collecting information from us as investors in a U.S. company. The legal costs of dealing with these are not insignificant. We will not invest in any further U.S. deals until the SEC clarifies token rules. Pivot to Asia."

Permissionless doesn't mean you get to rewrite the whitepaper or redefine Bitcoin. Permissionless applies only to apps built ON TOP of Bitcoin. You want to mess with consensus rules, you will have to ask for miners' 'permission'. If denied, either go back to building on top or start your own coin.

Asking if 0-conf is safe is like asking if airplanes are safe. For all intents and purposes, they are safe. Furthermore with 0-conf isolated to small payments, we have reduced air traffic to toy planes. If a toy plane happens to crash, the effects are negligible.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 08:02 AM PDT

The pundits will argue about the air disasters of historical past. This analogy would only apply if 0-conf is used for major purchases, such as buying a car. Here is a business opportunity: 0-conf insurance. If a merchant doesn't want to accept the risk of 0-conf but needs instant payments, buy the insurance.

[edit] lambertpf makes a good point: double spend attempts are easy to detect, and a decent POS system would be able to detect one within a few seconds. This further reduces the risk of an actual double spend to almost zero.

PSA: r/btc has 224k subs & in the top 5 Google results for "bitcoin reddit". Therefore not everyone who is a 'noob' & disagrees with you is a troll. Veterans here MUST be kind, welcoming & willing to explain their views or we'll discourage new voices from speaking up & turn this into an echochamber.

We want new voices, we want new talent, we want new builders. Whoever shuts down new joiners with insults or rude responses is making this community smaller, less inclusive, less innovative. Let's not become victims of our own success.

    When I buy

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:33 PM PDT

Whenever I see some scary government overreach, I buy a little bit of crypto. It helps me feel better to knowing that I'm doing just a tiny bit to help tip the balance of power towards the individual.

That's why I'm buying all the time, lol.

Anyone know why yours.org has shut down to all new users?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 05:25 PM PDT

This is so terribly disappointing and unbelievably frustrating that for the last several months, we can no longer onboard new content creators nor new users onto yours.org. Does anybody know WTH is going on?

Changes to Bitcoin Cash and the Overton Window

Nice to see this free market supporter wearing a Bitcoin pin back in 2014. I suspect he is on this forum today. Where are you?

Bitcoin Cash adoption will happen so overwhelmingly fast that mafias around the world will have no time to react. Try to stop one billion users downloading an application in 3 months. It can't be done. We've outlined 26 of these gateway apps at Freedom Project.

What does OP_RETURN do? I think I accidentally burned my money.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 02:53 PM PDT

Update: nothing's lost, I just didn't know how change addresses worked! Leaving this post up for any poor soul who gets freaked out by their BCH being sent to another address.

Stumbled upon this post about http://backit.cash/. Wanted to participate so I tried to follow how it work. I typed something, it gave me [BACKIT.CASH MESSAGE> blabla, and it said Sign the whole text below with your Bitcoin Cash wallet. I wasn't yet aware how I could sign a message via my Trezor, so I was looking for a way to send a transaction that includes data. The only way to do that was by adding OP_RETURN to a transaction, which I did. Pasted that "function" in there, hit the send button which said "SEND US$0.00", then signed the transaction on my Trezor. Apparently that sent 6.35 BCH to a random address?

My trezor still says I have all of my 10 BCH, but this blockchain explorer says the 6.35 are spent. Really not sure what to trust right now. Did I lose the 6.35?

Thanks for your time. Signed, a BCH noob.
