Thoughts about BTC Financialization -- Hold on to your private keys! Posted: 06 Aug 2018 01:30 AM PDT Found this podcast yesterday on the daily sub http://www.bitcoin.kn/2018/08/caitlin-long-financialization/ Extremely interesting, i think it is better to hear what she has to say (you can skip first few minutes) rather than to read her Fortune's articles which may be harder to grasp. Curious that Bakkt has a "guarantee fund" which means they won't back 1-to-1 BTC-futures. Bottom line BTC Financialization is coming up big time, with Wall street printing "paper" BTC by re-hypotheticating fractions of hard-BTC as they did for CDO/CDS on mortgages. Idea is to hold on your private keys and do not lend them to leverage BTC. [link] [comments] |
Why has BTC futures volume increased so much? Posted: 06 Aug 2018 07:26 AM PDT I don't trade futures nor do I claim to be very knowledgeable of them. However, looking at volume on CME, I see volume has increased quite a lot and futures prices have tracked volume movements pretty perfectly. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a) why volume has increased b) why price tracks volume or visa versa quite so efficiently. Thanks! :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2018 10:53 PM PDT I've been trying to find some explanation as to why the 128 simple moving average has typically been very good for charting the long term trend of bitcoin. Mapping it on to the historical chart, we can see that it does in fact correlate pretty well with bitcoin price on higher time frames, and can provide seemingly important support and resistance levels. But can anyone help me find the intuition as to *why* the 128 sma is particularly useful? Why not the 100 or the 200, or some other number? I realise that it perhaps might not matter why, but this number for the moving average seems more or less exclusive to bitcoin, and I'm trying to understand as much as I can going forward. I've also heard that an exponential of this average is less useful, but, again, I can't figure out why. I'm not fluent in statistical analysis and am in need of some guidance. Thanks.
