Posted: 07 Aug 2018 06:56 PM PDT TL;DR: I created a spreadsheet that automates pulling the entire 1,700+ library of cryptocurrencies from CoinMarketCap. You can find the spreadsheet here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/19l2bksgojeah4w/Pulling_CoinMarketCap_Data_into_Excel.xlsx?dl=1 CoinMarketCap is the most popular cryptocurrency website in the world. With over 100M page views per month, the website is the go-to resource for cryptocurrency quotes and aggregated spot rates. While not a perfect solution (we all remember the removal of Korean exchanges event) it still represents the prime place to check cryptocurrency aggregated pricing. The ProblemWhile CoinMarketCap does include historical pricing for each coin on it's website, they do not offer an "Export to CSV" option to easily transfer the data to an outside source (such as Excel, Google Sheets, etc.) Even then, the "Export" option brings a host of problems, such as:
Power users in Excel want the ability to analyze the data for their own trading strategies, but this becomes difficult and cumbersome with the current environment. A CoinMarketCap dashboard for ExcelHere is a quick gif demonstrating the power of the dashboard We at Cryptosheets developed a simple, beautiful Excel dashboard utilizing the Cryptosheets add-in and CoinMarketCap data. The workbook features include:
Since we place the data neatly into a worksheet, this gives the user further ability to perform any calculations they want. Services used:
If you find yourself hitting the request limit but want to continue using the add-in, send me a message and we can work something out. No one should be left in the dark. If you have Office 365, you are golden. Summary tabThe summary tab is the re-creation of the CoinMarketCap front page. Here, you will see all of the coins listed, as well as a few selected metrics for a quick snapshot of the market. Statistics tabThe statistics tab contains a few interesting views that make it easy for the user to see what coins are making the most moves (both positive and negative). Top Gainers 1 HourIn the Statistics tab, you will find a ranking of the Top Gainers and Top Losers by the following time periods: 1 hour, 24 hours, and 7 days. How to use the dashboardClick here to download the workbook
Installing Cryptosheets to pull the dataClick here and click the button "Get it now". Updating the dataThe worksheet uses the "Data" tab to pull in the 1,700+ tickers from CoinMarketCap. To pull the data, we will log into Cryptosheets, find CoinMarketCap, and export the data Here is a quick gif showing how to pull down data
After implementing, you will now have an auto-updating CoinMarketCap dashboard in Excel that gives 'at-a-glance' statistics to follow the big movers in the cryptocurrency space. Centralized crypto exchanges are the largest source of bad publicity crypto industry gets Posted: 07 Aug 2018 09:13 AM PDT Crypto exchanges are a single point of failure and so are a target for hackers. The issue with crypto exchanges is how transactions are cleared and settled via their platforms. As cryptocurrencies exist within an unregulated space, clearing and settlement cannot occur through traditional, regulated channels, making clearing and settlement risks abnormally high. Moreover, exchanges aren't willing to act as anything other than a third party that only arranges trades between buyers and sellers. This means that they are not a direct counterparty to every transaction that takes place and so are not bearing much responsibility for what takes place on their platforms. That is why I think we need blockchain-based decentralized clearing system and I am not sure why is almost nobody working on that (I only heard of a chinese team - daex.io that focuses on it) although it is one of the bottlenecks for adoption and one of the most frequent sources of bad publicity for crypto in general. Looking into a project called OIcoin - precious metal backed ERC20 Token Posted: 07 Aug 2018 08:56 AM PDT As a large part of my portfolio contains metals, I´m particulary interested in this project coming up called osmium investment coin. The Token itself doesn´t have much of a functionality besides a revenue share model, actually you take part in all the turnover of the global distribution. They kinda have a monopoly going on as the institution holds and produces almost everything of the global distribution, which pretty much means they influence the price and that´s my key factor why I´m looking into it right now. I also did my research on the institutions involved and from my findings it seems legit, still it sounds a bit too good to be true. With all the tokens being completely driven by hype right now we all know only a few with a real business behind will survive. Would love to hear your guys opinion if this project is legit and a good investment opportunity? [link] [comments] | ||
