Hi guys, I'd like to show you BitBacker.Cash: a Patreon-inspired crowdfunding platform, built for Bitcoin Cash

    Posted: 29 Jul 2018 11:16 AM PDT

I was inspired a few months ago to start working on BitBacker.Cash, seeing a need for a cryptocurrency-based crowdfunding website (as Patreon doesn't plan on supporting cryptocurrency), and of course I had to build one powered by Bitcoin Cash.

I've been working on-and-off on this project in my spare time, but after seeing the allegations surrounding Bitreon, I thought I'd release an alpha of BitBacker.Cash for you guys to check out, and to let you know that there are other alternatives out there in-the-making.

The current functionality is pretty limited. If you're a content creator, I've only just recently finished the functionality to create a BitBacker page (all the basic stuff is there, and you'll be able to upload an avatar and change the default header picture later). If you're not, well, I'll be working on letting you back creators next. Also, I will admit I am pretty bad at designing a website so I haven't worried too much about how it looks right now. There's no logo either. If you'd like to help me out in either of those regards, please feel free to reach out!

Check out an example of what a BitBacker page looks like: https://bitbacker.cash/u/bitbacker

    How will payments work?

As a content creator, you will be able to simply enter your Bitcoin Cash wallet address when creating your page. All payments will automatically be sent to that address, and you can change it whenever you want.
As a backer, my plan is to walk you through the process of creating a 1-of-2 multi-sig P2SH address where you can deposit funds, which will automatically be distributed by BitBacker.Cash to the people you back. This removes the need for any desktop applications/plugins (such as Electron Cash), and since it is a multi-sig address, you still have control and can move the funds out whenever you want, even if the site goes down.
In the end, my goal is for both the content creator and back to have complete control of their funds, and make it easy to send automatic payments.

Who is the team behind BitBacker.Cash?

As of right now, it's just me - a solo developer who had an idea, and a passion for the real Bitcoin.

How do you plan on earning money to keep BitBacker.Cash running?

Well... I'm definitely not looking for you guys to crowdfund me 100 BCH up-front. I'll probably run a BitBacker page myself for you guys to support, and I will likely charge a very, very small fee when sending automatic payments from a backer's wallet to the content creator (1% or less, as long as it makes sense to do so - if 1% is less than what's considered "dust", there won't be a fee at all).
I started this project with $0 in my pocket, which means I don't have any money to spend on advertising or bribing convincing popular Patreon creators to switch over, but I hope with the Bitcoin Cash community's help, BitBacker.Cash will grow, loud and proud, into something worth using.

When will the site be fully up-and-running?

I plan to finish implementing all the basic features over the next month of August, which is basically creating backer-only posts as a content creator, backing a creator and viewing backer-only posts as a user, plus a bit of polish in terms of UX. Later on I'll be implementing email notifications for when your BitBacker wallet is running low on funds (optional, only if you give us your email!), and maybe fancier stuff like being able to explore a directory of BitBacker pages based on your interests, view top creators, et cetera.
For now... if you're a content creator, go wild and get your BitBacker page up and running!
Of course, this is all dependent on your support! I know the site isn't flashy or beautiful, and I may not have the skills to make it that way, but I do have the skills to make it work well, and lots of heart. I created BitBacker.Cash as a passion project for the community, so if you think it's a terrible idea or I'm not the right person to be doing this, or any other criticisms, I'm listening.

Where can I follow you for news about updates or contact you?

I plan on posting about short updates/changelogs on Memo (here's my BitBacker profile). If you'd like to contact me privately, you can message me on Reddit, or you can email me at contact (at) bitbacker.cash.

And of course, if you have any more questions I haven't covered yet, please let me know and I will do my best to answer them. All feedback is welcome, and I really just want to know your thoughts on this before I keep going forward with the project. :) Is this something you would use over other sites, whether as a content creator or to support one?

It's a shame we aren't supporting our Openbazaar merchants more. Shall we? also: some merchants I find awesome

    Posted: 29 Jul 2018 09:27 AM PDT

Want censorship-resistance? Want to help the little guys win? Want to get some cool stuff for your coins without getting scalped by middlemen? Look no further than Openbazaar!

It's kinda atrocious, really, that we as a community are not supporting our BCH merchants on Openbazaar more. As a small time merchant it's really the easiest way to set up shop (yes, easier than all self-hosted solutions, and I'd say almost on par with ebay and amazon); as a consumer, it's really just installing the client, set up the wallet and it's good to go. Don't be intimidated!

Anyway, head to https://openbazaar.org and download your client already, if you haven't done so. Make sure you choose BCH at initial setup. Once setup, proceed to paste these URLs into the address line:

Cryptorepublic: Steam. Keys. For a discount. Want Steam Sales all year long? No problemo, dude's got you covered. If you don't see a game listed, message him and he'll fetch it for you. Stop by at ob://QmU5ZSKVz2GhsqE6EmBGVCtrui4YhUXny6rbvsSf5h2xvH/store

Amaury Sechet has not told us what he means exactly by "pre-consensus", all he has said is that he plans to "take actions that irritate many". This is very concerning. He should not be so vague if he did not want to cause drama.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2018 09:26 PM PDT

As you can see he has said he plans to take actions that irritate many. Some like /u/lovelyday have tried to say he means weak blocks/sub chains. But this cannot be the case since weak blocks are neither a soft or hard fork and are completely optional from my understanding. He must have something deeper in mind if it would result in actions that "irritate many". It sounds more like some type of controversial hard fork, which is the one influence Amaury has in the system to push for his ABC client. Some have said he has voiced concerns that weakblocks are not good enough for 0-conf.

So if Amaury is planning something more radical why is he not telling us specifics, and making threats about irritating people? This does not seem like the smart way to do things. We as a community should demand that he explain what "pre-consensus" changes he actually plans to take and why they will irritate people. If not, we should consider replacing him with somebody more competent.

By all means professionaly question peoples work and ideas. But stooping to name calling is suicide.

Sites like coin.dance have historically tracked development proposal support from miners, for things like big blocks and segwit. Should BCH start to have miners signaling for our hardfork upgrades? This seems healthy.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2018 12:05 AM PDT

What does everyone think? What are the pros and cons of having miners signal. Is it healthy? Or is it better to give the developers more power and let them decide changes and the miners just follow without signaling how they feel to the market? Interested in everyone's thoughts and how we might proceed to get miners on board for signaling in the next hard fork.

heuristicpunch is likely a paid shill

    Posted: 29 Jul 2018 01:17 PM PDT

Enough is enough. u/heuristicpunch has been on a tear these last few weeks posting propaganda and attacking everyone involved in some way with Bitcoin Cash that CSW has a problem with (BitcoinABC, BU, Thomas Zander, etc.). He does this everytime Craig has a twitter meltdown and finds himself at odds with huge chunks of the BCH community. This happened with SM and it's happening now with pre-consensus, so it's time to revive u/BitAlien's original thread exposing heuristicpunch--formerly known as geekmonk--as a paid shill. People need to be reminded that at least some of this dissent that we are seeing before us right now is manufactured.

Here are some bullet points that make the case that heuristicpunch is likely a shill:

    • GeekMonk, his original account name, was literally a digital agency that did social media marketing (The fancy word for SHILLING)
    • An enormous amount of Geekmonk's post history involves him trying to convince people to buy random sketchy products Swagg Sauce Premium Liquid 120ML - $9.99
    • He was shilling sketchy ICOs
    • During the SM debacle, when CSW had a ton of egg on his face because Vitalik Buterin exposed him publicly as a technical dilettante who makes absurd comments about "negative gamma", and suspected CSW shill accounts were trying to clear CSW's name, heuristicpunch/geekmonk was working overtime making posts to clear Craig's name (here are two examples of him doing the same thing right now: one and two). He was writing articles on Yours.org attempting to show how the math was wrong; he was admitting he screwed up the math in that article; he was whole-heartedly supporting any other article that attempted to do the same no matter how poorly written then issuing further mea culpas when those articles were further refuted as well.
    • He defended this trolling post where the OP claimed that CSW's claim of faster than light travel with 0-conf was possible because of "quantum entanglement." This got even u/cryptorebel who is no stranger to defending CSW to wonder if u/heuristicpunch might be a paid troll whose role in life was to make BCH supporters look like idiots.
    • He has this bizarre shilly way of arguing where he Gish Gallops through a bunch of false propositions to make his argument. These propositions only hold up if you don't actually go to the trouble of looking into what he's talking about. For instance, while telling lies about me in another thread, he made the claim that my account was less than a year old when anyone can verify for themselves that my account is 4 years old. His style of argumentation is so unreasonable one Reddit user actually made a Yours.org post detailing times where heuristicpunch has been unreasonable
    • His geekmonk account was shadowbanned. Reddit created account suspensions as a transparent alternative to shadowbans. In discussing the merits of suspensions over shadowbans they say: "Our current form of account restriction, the shadowban, is great for dealing with bots/spam rings but woefully inadequate for real human beings." That he was shadowbanned instead of suspended fits well with the idea that he is a spammer and a shill.

Because his account has been shadowbanned, I have gathered removeddit versions of the original links that u/BitAlien compiled for his original post exposing heuristicpunch/geekmonk as a shill so everyone can continue to see his shilling posts:

Why does people like Adam Back have any influence or power within the Bitcoin community?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2018 11:53 AM PDT

How is people like Adam Back who acts like a child at the age of 48 allowed to hold any power or influence within the Bitcoin community? Hes clearly an old and angry man realizing all he has done in the life has been meaningless and worthless and he acts out with trying to choke the life out of Bitcoin. I'll give the tweet about hes "bcash" comment to Cobra as an example. Cobra said something positive about Bitcoin Cash and Adam tweets him back "You just said bcash has advantages and didnt call it bcash" Its like if Mcdonalds had a twitter war with Burger King, they have different menus and people can prefer one over the other, whats the problem with co-exisiting? How professional does this childish tweets and comments about "bcash" look from an outsider? Or even to us within the communitys. Its like ->"Mcdonalds to someone who mentioned Burger King in a good way -> "omg you just said Burger King has advantages and didnt call it Bking". Any normal person would look at this and think, what the actual fuck is going on here?. TLDR; Why do we allow such childish people to hold any power or influence within the Bitcoin (core and cash) communitys?
