Bittrex launches direct fiat-for-cryptocurrenies, hastens BTC decoupling

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 12:18 AM PDT

"The exchange might even help move the market. Since so many alt coins could only be purchased by way of bitcoin, the value of bitcoin and many other digital currencies were closely correlated. The value of those crypto units may now begin to decouple from bitcoin, Shihara said, as more investors transact in dollars." https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/01/bittrex-exchange-will-let-investors-swap-their-dollars-for-cryptocurrency.html

Ledger nano vs flash drive .txt

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 04:55 PM PDT

What's the advantage of using a nano ledger S compared to just buying a $10 flash drive and using a .txt file to store private keys? I'm interested in buying one but haven't reach the tipping point of spending $100 on a ledger instead of just buying $100 more in xrp.

Anybody used LBX to buy XRP?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 06:12 PM PDT

    Hey all,

First time I've ever tried doing anything like this, and I'm not looking to become a serious buyer etc. Just thought I'd give it a try for fun.

Bought £50 worth of XRP last week, LBX seemed the most simple to set up and actually do it, as we seem to be a touch more restricted here in the UK than others.

Everything was done within 24 hours, and I believe the transaction fee was 2.45%. I'm only looking to buy maybe another £150 worth of XRP just so I have a small amount there in case it turns a decent profit over the next few years.

Is there anything I need to do to further safe guard it? Am I making any silly mistakes etc? I'm very tech savvy but this whole thing is brand new to me, so if you have any suggestions, please talk as if I'm the most uneducated person you've ever met in your life!

Thank you very much, enjoy your weekends :)

Tool to add a regular key (secret) to your mnemonic (Ledger) wallet, to use in ToastWallet.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 02:55 AM PDT

Now you can add a Regular Key to your mnemonic wallet, so you can use your Ledger wallet in ToastApp. Now you can set TrustLines, claim ALV and do all other cool XRPL stuff :)

    Why Toastify your Ledger

If you have a wallet with a mnemonic passphrase (normally 24 words) you'll probably use the Ledger application to send your XRP. The Ledger application doesn't allow you to send any other kinds of transactions. This means you can't set a Trust Line (to claim tokens, like ALV) or use your wallet in another XRP app (like ToastWallet).

With this tool you can assign a Regular Key to your existing wallet. This means a regular secret key (family seed, sXXXXXXX...XXXXXXX) will be generated and added to your existing account (wallet). After this, you can use both the Ledger software and any other XRP tool. By adding your Ledger wallet to ToastWallet or using The World Exchange using the Regular Key this tool generated for you, you can set Trust Lines, claim tokens, etc.

You will still be able to use your Ledger

Using this tool will NOT disable your existing key, so your existing mnemonic wallet and the Ledger client WILL STILL WORK, the tool will just ADD A SECOND key that can sign transactions for your account. This second key is a family seed (secret), with the sXXXXXX... formatting that can be used in Toast Wallet and other XRPL tools.

Please run this tool on your own local computer and offline.

How reliable Uphold to save my XRP?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 01:12 AM PDT

I'm new investing in crypto coins. And the fact that I start with XRP is I see a use case of this crypto coin. I dont understand the case use of BTC or Ether also it's probably too late to invest on BTC or Ether. I start browsing this sub and everyone seems recommend Uphold to buy XRP. But how reliable is it? Should I use Nano Ledger S to back up my coins? Nano Ledger S cost 100$ in my country and I'm not even sure my portofolio gonna be good. But I'm still hoping XRP price will rocket to the moon by EOY.

Is this why XRP (and all cryptos) follow btc?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 01:01 AM PDT

    https://xrpcharts.ripple.com/#/xrp-markets

If you count all those together, bit over 50% of XRP trading is done between XRP and Other Crypto. And Other cryptos are tied to btc, or its traded straight to btc. This means XRP will follow, because if you operate with Bitcoin or Any crypto at this point, because theyre all tied up even more to btc, BTC price changes will have all the effect in your trading right?

When well get clearly over 50% to XRP->FIAT, the decoupling will be enforced. Fiat is only thing that isnt tied to BTC. All those other cryptos are mostly traded against BTC, therefore theyre all enforcing the #coupling.

Really Want to Invest in Ripple/XRP but....?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 06:19 AM PDT

I wanted to find and do more DD on what makes XRP vital/important to the protocol that Ripple uses. The way it is explained to me is that banks are upgrading from dial-up to high-speed internet, and using XRP would be like upselling to lightning fast and that may not feel neccessary for banks since RIpple is solving this huge problem. Can someone point me in the direction of information on why this is or isn't the case. Thanks in advance.

    Can anyone explain this?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 08:26 AM PDT

I was thinking how altcoins could decouple from BTC. You hear everybody always talk about "we need more fiat pairs to decouple Alts from btc" but this will actually not decouple altcoins from btc, because those fiat pairs are still pegged to the btc price. We can take xrp as an example:

If you look at coinmarketcap you can see that XRP/BTC only accounts for around 15% of the total volume. Most of XRP can be bought actually with fiat/tether. But still XRP tanks really hard when BTC tanks. This is because the value of XRP is still pegged to BTC price. So people/bots would still sell alt > fiat so they can buy back lower.

So my question: how would you guys propose a real decoupling of altcoins be like?
