    Any Vega FE Owners Here?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 08:28 AM PDT

Hey guys! Long time viewer of this sub (love looking at the mining rigs) but first post.

I just recently got a Vega FE rig up and running on Windows 1803 and 18.4.1 drivers. They are hashing great on CN-Heavy (~2.3kh/s per GPU), however power is through the roof (~250W per GPU). I can not use overdriventool (which is well known for FEs), but it also seems like PPTs don't correctly apply voltages as well. Clocks correctly apply and I can get around the power issue by lowering the power limit (the GPUs don't run at p7 when I do this and hashes less which is expected, so not ideal).

So, I tried to switch to the gaming drivers, where I can use overdriventool and voltages correctly apply. However, you have limited memory allocation (cant allocate the full 16GB) so you do not get great hashrate.

Are there any FE owners out there that are on the newer drivers and were able to get their PPT voltages to correctly apply? Doing some research it seems like some are able to, but I am not even when I follow their process to the t.

    Any guidance would be appreciated!

PSU selection with 8 rx580s after bios mod.

Hey guys I am wondering what Saphire nitro+ 8gb pull after bios modding for my next octominer build. I'm not sure what wattage they pull after changing the bios or if it makes a difference at all.

Nicehash miner interested in a new mining program.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 07:45 AM PDT

I will soon have 4 1080 tis to mine with. Ive been using nicehash gor about 4 months and i feel it might be time to step up my game. I really like nicehash because its easy and pays me in bitcoin which i can easily hodle or cashout.

So my question is, which miner should i use to mine? I think i am interested in some of the smaller coins like RVN and oxbtc But i have no idea how to even start looking into mining them. Anyone have a walk through or suggestions?

    Thx fellow mining enthusiasts!

    Are all cores created equal?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 06:06 AM PDT

Do GPUs suffer from the silicon lottery as badly as CPUs?

I'm unsure as nvidia has clever stuff like on the cards with temperature and power supply based boost which take away some of the control at the top end.

I've got an asus and an msi gtx 1060 3gb cards, their stock core boost are 100mhz apart, but i've been able to clock them both to be pretty much identical (apart from the fluctuations due to the 65% power limit)
I understand that memory will behave differently as it actually different modules from different manufacturers (hynix, samsung, crucial, etc) whereas all the GPUs come from nvidia.

    Phoenix vs Claymore

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 01:07 AM PDT

Has anyone else found that poolside phoenix way out performs claymore? I used claymore for about a year all different versions and had pretty much just accepted I was never going to get close to my reported hashrate. If reported was 620 i'd average 580-590 mh/s so about two months ago I tried out phoenix and it's a world of difference. i'm either right at or up to 40 mh/s above my reported consistently in my 6 hr averages. I don't lightly recommend something but if you haven't tried it lately it may be worth it.

    WeMo Insight smart plug alternative?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 11:31 PM PDT

The WeMo Insight seems like a go-to smart plug for miners and I would love to buy 2 but spending 39.99usd for one is just too expensive. Is there a recommended alternative that's cheaper? I haven't used a smart plug before and I tried to search on amazon but there's too many and I don't know what's a good brand. I'm looking for a smart plug with this specs:

    • 220v (I live outside the US)
    • IFTTT
    • 10A (more is better)
    • Energy monitor (a must)

PS: TBH I would prefer a smart strip since my mining rig is using a 1+1 PSU setup but I can't find one with energy monitoring features. Thank you and I would really appreciate anyone's assistance.

    Nanopool current hashrate all over?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 06:20 PM PDT

Using nanopool my rig pushes 160mhs on its end. On nanopool site that is always the case of my last share however my current calculated hash rate drops all the way down to 50mhs. Is this effecting my mining payouts?

Can plugging in a riser while the motherboard is off but the PSU is still switched to 1 (on) kill a mobo?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 09:19 PM PDT

My rig was running great with 3 GPU's. I was on Windows and shut it down. I plug in my next riser for GPU 4 and the GPU turns on for a second with the PSU but then turns off immediately and it turns out my mobo is fried.

Why might this have happened? My mobo was on auto turn on when DC returns. Also, for some reason the GPU fans went to 100% for a couple seconds right before the rig powered off, perhaps that has something to do with it?

Hoping to learn to do some work with API's

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 05:11 PM PDT

So, my brother is a software engineer and I asked him to help me input some data into my excel sheet. Im mostly illiterate when it comes to programming and he is a terrible teacher. lol I was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

For now I'd just be happy with trying to record the number of accepted shares on a daily basis. Eventually I would expand on that. I don't know how difficult this is to do, my brother seemed to think it was no big deal.

Here is what I'm looking for. I learn better when I have an example I can modify to my needs. I learn by seeing what works and what doesn't. Would someone be able to write a simple "script"? that would approximate this? and Maybe point me towards some relevant instructions on how to get it into excel. I'm not looking for you to do the work for me, but just some place to get started without modifying too much. I need to start off small and work my way up, so the simpler the better.

I currently have Postman and Anaconda2 setup on my PC.

Hopefully someone is bored enough to help out a learning noob. I appreciated any and all help I can get. I like information, assuming I can understand and absorb it.

    Thanks!

One more noob question for you fine folks.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 11:10 PM PDT

Hey there everyone, I have a noobish question that I hate to ask but I definitely need help from someone more knowledgeable than myself.

I've been mining just for fun with a gaming pc I build a while back, and I am thinking of adding another GPU to double my hash rate. I'm curious if I am going to run into a problem with heat once I add the second card also curious to what GPU would be best to buy next.

currently running an Rx 480, 650w PSU, and a GA-H170 motherboard.

Any feedback would help thanks guys

Do you subconsciously sense that your rig locked up? *lol*

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 10:48 AM PDT

I work at home next to my rig and even when I'm deeply focused on my work, I know when my rig locked up and needs reset because fan rpm slows down and sounds just a little quieter. Funny thing is, my wife can yell at me and I will either not hear her or hear something completely wrong. Selective hearing in action!

    Portable GPU Mining Rig

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 10:37 AM PDT

I just wanted to share something I have been working on for the past month or so. I had a plan to build a mining rig in a suitcase that can be transported and be running while closed. It was important for it to be closed to limit the attention it would get and keep the components safer. The plan is to bring it with my when I am at the office (lower rates) or when I go on vacation.

It is a basic system with 4 1050ti FTW GPU, Gigabyte MB, 550PSU, 64gb SSD, and 4gb DDSR. I built the frame out of acrylic to keep heat absorption to a minimum. I have (4) 92mm fans cooling it at the moment.

It pulls around 750 sol with GPU temp at 60C, uses about 370 W, and gets to be about 113F inside the case.

Let me know what you think. All feedback is appreciated.

Anyone have rigs in their attic?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 09:20 AM PDT

I'm in an area where we do not have basements. I don't have a spare room in the house to dedicate for mining, no covered porch, and no garage. I do have plenty of attic space.
I only have one rig now, but will likely build one or two more within a year. Right now I am mining in the spare guestroom, but the heat is becoming an issue, especially now that summer is coming.
I was thinking of building an enclosure, or using a grow tent, and putting it in the attic, and the exhaust can go right out the roof (install new exhaust duct).
I could easily run power (finally upgrade to 240v) and Internet up there.

Are there any downsides to attic mining? Does anyone do it currently? Tips?
