eBay is having a fathers day special until 7pm pst tonight. Use coupon code PICKDADSGIFT to get 20% off (up to $100 off) anything on eBay. You can put multiple things in your cart if you are buying smaller items.

Seems like a good way to grab another card w/ a nice discount.

PCIe x1 to USB 3.0 HUB (4-ports) to four risers

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 04:01 AM PDT

So I'm thinking of a rather Frankenstein-ish build. PCIe x1 slot to USB 3.0 plugged into a USB 3.0 hub (say, 4 ports), outputted through four USB 3.0 cables to four risers, with four mining cards plugged in.

Would it work? I mean, I already have a mPCIe notebook slot plugged into a riser, and it mines & outputs video signal to the monitor just fine... but this USB hub stuff is a whole another level of Frankenstein-ey.

BTW, regarding sharing that PCIe x1 bandwidth across four cards, it shouldn't be a problem. There are dudes who had no problem with that.

    Equihash: Vega56 better then Vega64?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 03:08 AM PDT

    Hey guys

So, one of my rigs has 4x Vega64 and 1x Vega56
They all run with the same settings (GPU clock, Mem clock, TPD, Fan). Only the voltage is set on auto.
I'm using Wattman for the OC settings an the Blockchain driver.
I don't know why, but the Vega56 has a better hash rate then the Vega64.
It's not much, i know, but why?

Issue with 1200W HP platinum PSU

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 09:19 PM PDT

Hey guys, I bought a couple of used HP 1200W server power supplies and I encountered it shutting off at about 900-950W draw (or about 1010-1020W at the wall). It's the PLC model with the blue connector (DPS1200SB A to be exact). I tested several units and all showed the same behaviour. Also bought a non-PLC (black connector) one as a reference and it worked flawlessly up until the specified power draw (1200W). Voltage at my place is 232V.

Is it possible that the data center that owned it before somehow capped the max power to run more efficient? It's my only plausible explanation but I don't know if that's even possible...

Hope somebody can help me. I need to draw around 1000W and I'm not able to.

Bminer: a highly optimized cryptocurrency miner that runs on modern NVIDIA GPUs

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 02:51 AM PDT

    Dear community users:

Bminer is a highly optimized cryptocurrency miner that runs on modern NVIDIA GPUs (Maxwell and Pascal, i.e. GPUs that have compute capability 5.0 or above).

Bminer is one of the fastest publicly available miners today -- we use various techniques including tiling and pipelining to realize the full potentials of the hardware.

Bminer support mining Equihash-based coins, mining Ethash-based coins and also supports dual mining mode - mining Ethash-based coins (e.g. Ethereum) and Blake14r-based coins (e.g. Decred) / Blake2s-based coins (e.g. Verge) at the same time since Bminer 8.0.0.

It will be our honor if you can have a try and give us some feedbacks about it.

    Download:

    https://www.bminer.me/releases/

    8.0.0 (Current)

    • Support a dual mining mode for Ethereum (ETH, Ethash) and Decred (DCR, blake14r) / Verge (XVG, blake2s) without affecting Ethereum mining performance.
    • Automatically tune mining performance in dual mining mode.
    • Support dual mining mode in launcher and dashboard GUI.
    • Add scripts to download third party software OhGodAnETHlargementPill to improve Ethereum mining performance on GTX 1080/1080Ti.
    • Introduce new REST APIs to display stratum/solver/device status.

    How's the performance:

    • Equihash mining on stock settings:
      • 735-745 Sol/s on GTX 1080Ti
      • 450-460 Sol/s on GTX 1070
      • 315-325 Sol/s on GTX 1060
    • Ethash mining on GTX 1080Ti stock settings (power: 250 W):
    • Dual mining using automatic tuning (default) on GTX 1080Ti stock settings (power: 250 W):
      • With OhGodAnETHlargementPill:
        • ETH 46 MH/s and DCR 1000 MH/s
        • ETH 46 MH/s and XVG 1770 MH/s
      • Without OhGodAnETHlargementPill:
        • ETH 32 MH/s and DCR 2200 MH/s
        • ETH 32 MH/s and XVG 3750 MH/s

    What's the devfee:

Bminer supports mining Equihash-based coins (e.g., Zcash) with 2% of devfee.

Bminer supports mining Ethash-based coins (e.g., Ethereum) with 0.65% of devfee.

Bminer also supports dual mining mode - mining Ethash-based coins (e.g. Ethereum) and Blake14r-based coins (e.g. Decred) / Blake2s-based coins (e.g. Verge) at the same time.Devfee for the dual mining mode is 1.3%, and the second coin (e.g. Decred/Verge) is mined without devfee.

Check it out and please let us know what you think of it.

    Extremely unresponsive rig

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 01:58 PM PDT

Hello I have an AMD mining rig with 3x 580s and 2x 570s on windows. The problem I have is that it's extremely unresponsive even when im not mining. It's mainly when im doing something related to the cards, it takes almost 10 min to open radeon settings for example.

I have tried different drivers (18.3.4 currently) and used DDU each time I removed old drivers. Also just reinstalled windows. Virtual memory is 32GB. In mobo bios I have set PCIE to gen1 and enabled Above 4G decoding and also disabled audio. Once I get it mining it's hashing just fine but everything else is incredibly slow.

    Anyone else experienced this?

    RX580 8GB hashrate seems low!

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 04:49 PM PDT

I have 4 XFX 580 8gb all with Micron memory.

I've extensively tuned my configs on XMRSTAK, using dual threads, I tried all intensitys, all mem_chunk options, etc. Also tried specific straps on each of my costums bios to achieve the best performance and this is what I got.

As you can see I'm getting a better hashrate on CNHeavy rather than CNv7, while it should be the opposite. On my RX550 rig I get 80% of my CNv7 hashrate while mining CNHeavy.

I'd like to further improve my CNv7 hashrate but increasing the core or memory further increases my power usage like 1.5x times!

Is this the max I'll probably achieve? Is micron memory this bad?

    The future of GPU Mining.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 11:05 PM PDT

As many of you know, BitMan is soon to deliver their newest Equihash Z9 Minis to the mining community. For us GPU miners this is realitivly bad news, or is it? If zCash doesn't fork, it will become an ASIC only coin, and all current hashpower will be distributed to ASIC-resistant coins that are currently scheduled to soft fork.

So how is this good news? zCash currently is the highest valued Equihash coin, BitMan can take the crown. However, Nvidia is a much larger company, therefore one of the current Equihash coins that will fork will increase in value to the current zCash value. Yes, Nvidia publicly speaks against miners to keep gamers, but in reality love miners to keep prices up and shelves empty. Of course this is my logic and I'm mining coins confirmed to be forking while difficulty and prices are low.

    Smart plug rated for 20amp @120VAC ?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 08:51 AM PDT

Every smart plug I find out there is rated up to 1800w max (or 15amp 120V), so I have to run my rigs at closer to 1500w for safety reasons. However my home has 20amp breakers and wiring and I would like access to that extra headroom for more overclocking or cooling, but still on the same smart plug for monitoring and remote restarting in the case of a full system hang from an app on my phone.

Anyone know of anything out there that fits the bill?

grow tent as a container for rigs

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 10:55 AM PDT

    hello gpumining.

im going for the grow tent solution...what is the best airflow configuration? in my head i think 2x fans, one for exhaust and one for inlet. i'd exhaust from the top and bring in cool air from the bottom. the bottom pipe/inlet is offset from the center so i guess it'll create a vortex effect? so the air spins round at the bottom eventually being carried up by heat from rigs + the exhaust at the top (which is in the center of one side) thats sucking all the warm air and dumping that outside. is that the best config? or can i just have two exhaust at the top both sucking the hot air out with no inlet fan, just a filter?

im not schooled in thermo or aero dynamics so i dunno?

what works best for everyone whos using them?
