Posted: 06 May 2018 06:07 AM PDT So this may sound like a dumb question, and probably is. But what is the problem with hot ambient temps if the cards are running at an acceptable temp? If the room is 100 degrees does that hurt anything? Are any components affected by the hotter ambient temps? I have see a lot of people post questions about cooling rooms down and I agree that's ideal but what's the upper temp people are willing to run their ambient temp up to? Thanks in advance! Posted: 06 May 2018 01:10 AM PDT Through many bios mods and the following unmods, I've always seemed to have had problems with this 580 gaming x 4gb. Recently it just refuses to be recognized by afterburner, gpu-z, or nicehash. I've wiped the bios to stock and to several different modded ones, I've tried several different drivers, and I've reseated it for good luck. I've also patched each mod. Any ideas? I can't seem to figure this one out, and I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing. [link] [comments]
35 GPUs - Super high Electric bill - How many watts per card are you doing? Posted: 06 May 2018 06:52 AM PDT So i have: 1080ti: 8 1080: 8 1070ti: 1 1070: 9 RX570/580: 9 So i have been living in my home for over 2 yrs, only mining for about 3 months. My electric bill used to be around 180-240 tops, but I looked @ my electric bill this month and its $741. Electricity is $632 and tax is $118. Currently, 4 of my rigs are running SMOS and one is on windows. Last month my electric was $628 with same amount of cards.. only thing i did was upgrade my fan, so dont really know what the deal is.. For smos - i have watts as: 1080ti: 190 1080: 135 1070ti: 115 1070: 110 RX570/580: undervolting is 800, but i do notice Powerstage is stuck on NaN. Ive tried deleting it and then booting back up and still stuck so i dont know if this is an issue. I have 1 rig running in windows, useing afterburner to control power - setting for it are - 1080s(5) - 79% power limit(dont know how many watts) 1080ti(3)- 90% power limit(dont know how many watts) Ive added up the elelectric cost on WhatToMine.com and my total electric cost should be around 10.58/day or $306/mo - this doesnt account for the cost to run my hdd on windows pc or running of my 26 inch fan to suck air out, but i feel like still over by around $250. My rigs are in my garage where temps are around 68-77 degrees. Im in florida where my electric is around .09-.10 cents per kwh. Can you guys tell me what setting you use for your SMos or windows to make sure im not over powering my cards please? [link] [comments]

Looking for suggestions from other miners about Garage Mining for large farms. Posted: 05 May 2018 10:03 PM PDT I live in PA and currently running 160~ GPUs in my Garage with my Partner about a 18Kw Mining Farm. We called our company Anthracitecrypto. https://imgur.com/a/IROgRS0 Our Farm consists of GTX1060s, GTX1070's, RX580's. The good stuff. We run them all on 240v with 450w Bronzes PSU and Delta's 2400w Server PSU Just looking for some advice about cooling and UPS(Battery back-up). Currently, we are looking into creating a "Cold" and "Hot" side of the garage with a room addition later added to the top of the garage following the same concept. Basically, we take 3/4 of the garage where the GPU's are and setup a wall with large exhaust fan that intakes airs(thru a lot of cleanable filters) on the other of the wall is the "hot" side where the GPU's expel their heat and another large exhaust fan pushes it outside. I was wondering if anyone had other idea's suggestions, or what they do for large farms for cooling? An additional problem is power surges/outages. If the power goes out nothing really can be done, but if a surge happens where we lose power for few seconds this is such a devasting thing for our mining farm. UPS for 240v do not seem to be a thing, let alone a 2Kw UPS one! We looked into something like a Solar backup system with batteries, but talk about money! Thanks, guys, I appreciate any input, suggestions, ideas. I'll take some more pictures tomorrow to give everyone a rough idea. Edit:Updated pictures [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 May 2018 03:36 AM PDT I have the ver006 risers as show in this picture https://i.imgur.com/nhTsSlS.jpg I have some questions on different ways I can power them. I know that it is unsafe to use the included SATA to 6-PIN adapter. I would like to use maybe use VGA cable directly as I've heard it is the best option but it is too short. Would it be safe to use one of these to extend the length? Raidmax 6 Female to 6+2Pin Male VGA Extension Cable I'd like to have options. This is one I was considering. Another option would be to go from Molex to the riser using a Molex to 6-PIN adapter. I know they make risers that accept Molex cables directly but I've already invested in the risers that use the 6-PIN power cable input. Can anyone recommend a Molex to PCI-E adapter? like shown in this video here https://youtu.be/e-CAY66od5c Most of these I know would work but my real question is would it be safe? What type of thickness should I be looking for? any certain brands or products you can recommend by linking directly from fry's or newegg would help. [link] [comments]
How I Cheaply Vented Shed in Phoenix, Arizona for Mining Rig Posted: 05 May 2018 04:09 PM PDT (Please excuse the mess) I previously had my rig in a room in my house, with the ducts closed, and a box fan blowing on it. The ambient temp in the room would get up to about 108F, and the GPU temps would hover around 75-78c. With summer coming, I figured it wouldn't work well for long, plus it was a waste of a room. I moved it to my storage shed, with a box fan blowing in from the window, and an inline 10" duct fan with ducting running through the roof. I used smoke to adjust the distance and angles until most of the air seemed to flow through the exhaust. Ambient temps outside today were around 100F, and the room stayed about 100F. GPU temps were 70-76. I have no idea how well this'll work with 120F ambient temps or rain / dust outside, and my ethernet cable seems to be indoor only, but we'll see. It works for now, and the total cost was around $150 with purchasing everything on Amazon. I'll probably tape a filter to the window screen on the inside in a bit to help with dust. Need some help - *Warning->Absolute beginner* Posted: 06 May 2018 01:00 AM PDT Okay, So I have decided to build a mining rig for XMR So far, I have come across a 6gpu mining rig using Vega 64s and thought of building 3 individual rigs. However, I also found the Asus 18 pcie slot motherboard. Was wondering if it would be possible to incorporate 18 vega 64s into 1 single rig. I read that windows itself only supports a certain number of gpus. Can someone guide me/tell me why this is not possible? Much appreciated [link] [comments]
Air flow path and a smoke machine? Posted: 06 May 2018 12:56 AM PDT I'm trying to figure out the exact path that air is flowing through my mining room. I was thinking of getting a smoke machine. Do you think this is a good idea? Is there a better idea to be able to see the path of air flow? is there a better idea to create smoke w/o using a smoke machine? Did anyone gone down this path? If so, what was your experience and any pointers? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Anyone cut into their garage door yet? Or installing vents in garage block better? Posted: 05 May 2018 08:26 AM PDT Okay, so I have come to realize I need to get the heat out. Florida summer is near so it's already hot af. I have an 3 car garage with no windows, or attic/crawl space to vent out the heat. So either I'm going to hire someone to install vents in the concrete blocks or just hot holes into my garage door and put vents on the outside to try to high the eye sore. My question is how man holes do you recommend? I have 35-40 gpu at this moment. I would have a inlet fan pulling cool are in and another sucking air out from the ceiling area where all the hot air will be. But how does one figure out how much cfm I need to move? If I need more cfm, can I use more inlet fans connected to a y-pipe so I can avoid multiple holes or does it not work as well? Any suggestions please let me know. [link] [comments]
Is it a safe bet to get into mining currently? Posted: 05 May 2018 07:27 PM PDT I've noticed a lot of talk about Forks and ASICS resistance related to BitMain. I honestly don't know much about what this all means, but was curious how safe it is to get into mining right now. I've been in crypto for about a year and a half but never once considered actually constructing a mining rig until now. I'll have $8,000 left to spare after my summer internships and was wondering if this is enough to set up a decent rig. I don't want to take money out of my crypto investments, so that's all I'll have to work with. I was also wondering if there are any online guides community members on here recommend for setting up a rig. Thank you [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2018 11:23 PM PDT I have a 3 years old 970 from 2015 WITHOUT warranty Should i consider and try mining or it will risk the gpu to die? I can do good work to maintain temps maximum 70°C I can't afford to buy another card if this dies now Is it worth it? Is it a good idea with this gpu? Thanks in advanced [link] [comments]

Rig shut off all of a sudden and wont power on again Posted: 05 May 2018 12:10 PM PDT Hi! My rig just shut down, and now it wont turn back on. I have tried to connect it to different power outlets, and i have also tried to power it on with just one psu (have tried both) but with no luck. Its basicaly just dead... anyone got any idea what might be wrong? EDIT: Tested both psu's in different system and they both powered on, but they wont power on in this rig [link] [comments]
