Windows auto update caused GPU issues Posted: 09 May 2018 05:47 AM PDT So I know this has happened to a few people but I have tried a few things without success. Here's my rig: MoBo: MSI Z170A GPUS: MSI RX 570 Gaming 4G x 5, MSI RX 580 x 1 Risers: PCIe VER 007 HD: SanDisk SSD PLUS 120GB Solid State Drive (SDSSDA-120G-G26) PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 CPU: Intel BX80662G4400 Pentium Processor G4400 3.3 GHz FCLGA1151 Problem: I had all of my 570s running at ~28mH/sec and my 580 at ~31 mH/sec. Then, auto update hit and they have all since been running at ~21mH/sec. I tried reverting to an older version of the installed Windows but it won't ever let me remove all the new updates. I tried running DDU, but it's not starting up in safe mode - I guest l get the black screen when I try to restart. I checked and all the GPUs are still flashed and the drivers haven't been updated. I tried adjusting their clocks without success. I don't know what to do at this point. My rig has been off now for about a month. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 May 2018 07:18 AM PDT I'm looking to potentially replace my gtx 1070 with a gtx 970 over the summer (I'm putting the 1070 down the mines) and was wondering what the gtx 970 4gb currently hashes like? Anyone mining with one? [link] [comments]
Mobo not reading Nvidia GTX 1070 Founders Edition only Posted: 09 May 2018 05:59 AM PDT My rig: I previously posted referencing that my mobo was only reading 4 of 5 cards. It was briefly fixed per suggestion by another redditor by changing the Max Link Speed in my BIOS to Gen1. I then got greedy and thought I'd test out a M.2 riser for a 6th card...then all of the cards slowly started to disappear with every reboot. I thought I fried my mobo! I reset then the BIOS, then re-followed the guide given by Gigabyte here. One thing from the guide though, the BIOS update that gives you the option for mining never appears in the options, so I'm making due. I got it to read 4 cards again, but here's the strange thing...it will only read my MSI cards. I have 4 MSI 1070s, and 2 Nvidia FE 1070s. Whenever I reduce to 4 cards and include the FE, it won't read. If I ONLY plug in the FE, it won't read. However, when I plug either of the FE cards into my personal computer, they work just fine. I have swapped out risers, USB cables, power cords, switched between PSUs, messed with BIOS settings, etc. How could I get 5 cards briefly and now back to 4 AND it doesn't like the FE cards? Any ideas? [link] [comments]

Equihash Coins fork will decide ASIC and GPU mining future. Posted: 08 May 2018 11:59 PM PDT When Bitmain announced Monero ASIC for $12000, monero announced a fork and went through with it. This was a move that dealt heavy losses to Bitmain. When it came to Ethereum ASICs Bitmain was afraid and so launched it for $800. But Ethereum developers decided not to fork as the hashrate was not high to centralize the network. But this is where they were wrong. This move gave relief to bitmain and so now they are launching Equihash ASICs. Only if all developers fork their coins will it stop bitmain from developing more ASICs. I think it's still not late for ethereum and zcash to choose a side. If Zcash does not fork it will bring doom to other algo. as they may bring Neoscrypt or Lyra2v2 ASICs next. x16 algo will be helpful but coins should not use same variant of x16 in their hard fork as Raven coin or PGN. Atleast one algo. In hash order should be different. Many coins using same algo is not a good thing. [link] [comments]

Building a new rig - Question on power supply Posted: 08 May 2018 06:05 PM PDT I just bought the parts for a beginner rig to mine Ravencoin. I got three Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 580 4GB GPUs. The power supply I bought for it was the CORSAIR RMx Series RM850x (CP-9020180-NA) 850W. Is my power supply an appropriate size? [link] [comments]
Grow Tent With 100F Ambient Temperature Posted: 08 May 2018 04:19 PM PDT I'm looking at grow tent options currently, but one point I haven't found much discussion on is how hot can the ambient air that is being pulled in be before you lose the ability to keep the cards cool? I live in Texas and it normally will be up to 100F in peak summer which relatively speaking is still much colder than my cards run at 68C. Assuming I have adequate airflow does anyone have experience using a grow tent system with 90-100F intake air temperature? [link] [comments]
Roasted Garlic Pool is doing a PYRO giveaway! Posted: 08 May 2018 04:13 PM PDT Hello fellow miners. My pool, http://roastedgarlicpool.fun is doing a giveaway for a new, small coin named Pyro. What is Pyro? Well, it is a coin based on the Dash network with a few key differences. Why would you mine this coin? First of all, it runs on the algorithm Lyra2Z, an algorithm that is easy on the hardware. Second, it currently has a very low hashrate. Its hashrate is currently only 100 MH/s now. My 1070 does 1.3 MH/s! What are some features of this coin? Well, it is aiming to be a coin based on crowdfunding. People will be able to invest their PYRO in different products and services, much like the ones on Kickstarter. It also has very low transaction times (took me 3 seconds to receive the transaction in my wallet) and has masternodes, which get 1/2 of the block reward. Check out the website here and make sure to join the Pyro Discord here. Details of the giveaway: At 2 random times every day we will give away 10 PYRO to a random address that is mining, we have a total of 490 PYRO to giveaway at this time. Fine Print:

Dropping temperatures with new thermalpaste Posted: 08 May 2018 08:04 AM PDT I wanted to get the temperatures of my old R9 280X (Gigabyte Windforce) down, so I started a cleaning process. "Normal cleaning" which means blowing out the card with a compressor (alternatively canned air) and the more extensive method where I take it apart, clean from the inside and reapply thermalpaste. Materials: Canned air / small compressor, Isopropanol (99% alcohol), WD40 contact cleaner, microfibre cloth, new thermalpaste (I chose Thermalgrizzly). I made a video about the whole process linked below, but some results: After taking the card apart, blowing it out from the inside too, cleaning the inside with the contact cleaner/alcohol and reapplying thermalpaste, the temperatures dropped from 67 ° C while mining Dagger Hashimoto (Ethereum algo) to around 62 ° C mining the same thing. May not sound like much, but I am very happy with this. Was the hottest card in the AMD rig, so now it's generally cooler. Video link: https://youtu.be/v1Y3cBgRygU I'll upload another a bit more extreme cooling experiment next week =) anyone else experiences with new thermalpaste? Any recommendations? Need help getting mobo to read 5th GPU Posted: 08 May 2018 01:18 PM PDT My rig: I've gone through the process from the Gigabyte website of downloading the BIOS with the mining option built in (version 7a), but when I updated the BIOS, the 4G Decoding option appeared and a couple other random options, but never showed the option to set it for mining mode. I can't get it to recognize the 5th card. I've tried reinstalling cards, changing positions on the mobo, reinstalling drivers, messing with various setting within the BIOS, reinstalling Win10...but no luck. GPUZ and Device Manager only see 4 cards. Any other ideas on how to get it to read? [link] [comments] |
