Looking to Buy BCH using Credit Card Posted: 08 May 2018 12:30 PM PDT Hello, I've read through the FAQ and the sidebar, and I've looked at the BCH website -- I'll be honest, it feels a bit like information overload, and I'm a little overwhelmed for what I was hoping would be a bit simpler of a process. Long-story short: I would like to purchase/exchange/convert USD into BCH. I have set up a wallet using Jaxx, but I am lost when it comes to funding my BCH account. I signed up to HitBTC, but they don't appear to convert USD? Maybe I missed the option; I did look, but nothing jumped out at me. So, I decided to try Kraken, but they got a little too personal too fast for my paranoid tastes, and I do not wish to give them my latest utility bill and social security number. Is there some place I can go that will just let me buy BCH for the current market rate using a credit card? Is everywhere going to go all Big Brother on me? I apologies for being such a noob at this, but as I said, there is just so much information to sift through. Thanks for your time! Edit: PS. I wanted to confirm that buying either BCH or BTX does not mean I get the other automatically because it would be after the fork. They are now two distinct currencies that really don't have anything to do with each other financially, right? [link] [comments]
help make cryptocurrency an academic topic Posted: 08 May 2018 02:56 AM PDT As a recent blockchain and cryptocurrency enthusiast, I decided to graduate my MBA by researching ICOs and online communities. Since you are all part of one of the biggest online community interested in cryptocurrencies, please help make cryptocurrency get a better academic position by participating in the following survey: https://uvafeb.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ba1aa388QvCSClD. This takes about 7 minutes. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 May 2018 09:13 PM PDT I've been using BitPay debit visa card. I was loading it with BTC and CoPay phone wallet for the last couple months and it works great. Tonight I finally backed up the BCH wallet on CoPay and sent .25 BCH to it from Coinbase. I then sent the BCH to BitPay card and it worked great. I noticed BCH has way lower fees compared to BTC and confirms faster. I still plan to keep both BTC and ETH on my phone as well as BCH, but I'm a happy new user of BCH now. I've had BCH on my Trezor for months, but never used it day to day like this. I can't wait for a vendor to accept BCH directly without having to go through my BitPay visa card. I'm hoping as I use the BitPay Visa, that BitPay is marketing to the vendors I frequent. [link] [comments]

Is it still profitable to invest on S9 Cloud Mining Contract in ViaBTC? Posted: 08 May 2018 03:08 AM PDT Here's a patrt of latest announcement on Viabtc https://pool.viabtc.com/announcement/47/ : "The pre-sale of a new batch of S9 cloud mining contract will start on May 4th, 2018 (UTC+8) and its mining payout will be calculated at 00:00 June 15th, 2018 (UTC+8). For this batch we've released 7,500 TH/s S9 cloud mining contracts. Running with Antminer S9, currently the most advanced mining rig, S9 cloud mining contract is pre-sold at only 159 USD per TH/s, with electricity cost as LOW as 0.216 USD daily per SHARE." Let's make it more clear. Price: $159 (≈ 0.01696494 BTC) Per Share EST. Daily Earnings: 0.00003454 BTC/Share (Electric fee, management fee deducted) EST. for ROI:Around 491 Days, within 1.5 year Profit from: 2018-06-15 If Bitcoin price stays at the current levels, and you just bought a share before the effective date, you'll getting profit no later than 2020. The fact is Bitcoin price will be much likely rise more than $10,000 before 2020. And the difficulty changes is also a variable. What price should bitcoin reach to if I should profit before 06/2019? Maths is beyond me. [link] [comments]

Lightning User Experience: A Day in the Life of Mr Derp Posted: 07 May 2018 09:15 PM PDT The goal of this post is to give the Bitcoin community and prospective Lightning users insight into what the end user experience of the Lightning Network is like right now. Here, we're focusing on the story of Mr Derp, a new Lightning Network user. Meet Mr Derp. In today's post, Mr Derp is the hero of the story. Mr Derp setup an online shop after hearing about all the wonderful hype of the Lightning Network and couldn't wait to try it out himself. First thing first, Mr Derp went to enrol in degrees for cryptography, security, game theory, economics, and more. Source: https://twitter.com/abrkn/status/992744771054485506 Fast forward time, Mr Derp is now equipped with the knowledge to be a LN user because doing things simple is not for him. Bitcoin Cash users just download Bitcoin.com wallet to get started, no advanced degrees, even his grandmother could use Bitcoin Cash. But who likes to a simple life? Not Mr Derp! Mr Derp enjoys making his life as complicated as possible, so he opt for Lightning Network instead of the simple Bitcoin.com wallet. Then he realize his Lightning Network wallet needs to be online all the time. This is perfect for Mr Derp because he does not like his funds secure so he enjoy putting his wallet out there 24 hours a day to let people steal his funds. He doesn't like the highly secure and often highly recommended secure way of cold storage. Mr Derp enjoys living his life dangerously. Life is more exciting when you wake up each day not knowing if your funds are still there or not. Unfortunately, the next day, Mr Derp realize his funds was lost in the Lightning Network. https://www.trustnodes.com/2018/03/26/lightning-network-user-loses-funds Doesn't matter, Mr Derp has lots of money to throw away. He setup another LN again but this time, he is a little bit less stupid. Then Mr Derp realize his customers can't pay him without him locking up enough money in the Lightning Network payment channel. Mr Derp likes to lock up his own money the same way he locks up his money in the bank. "What type of people don't want their money to be locked up?", Mr Derp thought to himself. Then Mr Derp realize his customers was still unable to pay him due to too little funds locked up in the Lightning Network payment channel. Mr Derp likes complicated things so he thought maybe topping up will work. Turns out he can't top up his original balance and has to close the existing payment channel and create a new payment channel. "The more complicated the better it is", Mr Derp thought to himself. After months of LN experience, Mr Derp is now excited to show everyone how amazing his Lightning Network works. He even made a YouTube video to demo this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxgBgWBw6wc
