New indicators on Bitgur Customizable Watchlist. Now you can add ATH and moving averages.

    Posted: 11 Apr 2018 06:50 AM PDT

    Hi friends!

I added new indicators to Bitgur Customizable Watchlist (bitgur.com/watchlist). Now you can add ATH and moving averages (EMA5, EMA10, EMA20, EMA50, EMA100, EMA200).

Here you can watch screenshot: i.imgur.com/lpSYF2p.png. I hope it might be useful for people who use EMA in trading.

    Happy trading! :)

What are your favourite short strategies?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2018 12:44 AM PDT

I've been invested in bitcoin since mid 2014. I largely missed the opportunity to short it in December because I mistakenly thought the bull run had another month or two in it to be honest. Anyway, I just want to do some research on good strategies to make a smarter exit on part of my portfolio during the next bull run. I'm not a full time trader, so don't want to be glued to a screen all day. I'm more looking for some simple tips or strategies to help long term holders like me make the most of these multi year trends. If anyone has some good strategies they'd like to share, links to some good articles, or tradingview accounts with good info, please post it up!

    AMT tax preventing all deductions.

    Posted: 11 Apr 2018 08:18 AM PDT

I sold some long term bitcoin holdings in 2017 as I suspect many of you did.

Is anyone else encountering the situation where alternative minimum tax is blocking a five figure itemized deduction?

    To all Post Mtgox joiner.

    Posted: 10 Apr 2018 07:38 PM PDT

We all broke your balls as ancient how it was difficult to survive to the bear market after mtgox collapse.

I've to say this one is getting exhausting also, I don't know how long it will last, but one thing I'm sure: Fundamental are better than on the way up.

Which is very different from Mtgox era where it was impossible to say in what measure Willy bot manipulated the price.

This bear is another medal for holder or trader that can survive to that. We will come out of this, 100% guarantee, I expect to be ATH way before the end of this year.

    Hedging Strategy and Exchanges

    Posted: 11 Apr 2018 01:28 AM PDT

I'm looking for exchanges to hedge against bitcoin volatility so wanted to pick the brains of other traders here.

    1. Are there any other good exchanges besides BitMex?
    2. Trading size of derivatives to hedge? Not familiar with this aspect
    3. Particular strategies that should be used?

    Thanks in advance. :)

Created a network/aggregate for subreddits like this one

    Posted: 10 Apr 2018 04:22 PM PDT

Hello all, a few people and I have been working on a project to link together different communities of crypto traders. Called the Crypto Trader Network (very original, I know..). It has been going well and we're seeing some serious progress/growth. It's similar to the SFWPornNetwork but a lot less rigid, much more informal, and entirely based around creating a resource for traders and bringing together crypto related subreddits.

The goal is to be a sort of neutral middle-ground for all communities to share. This is one of the reasons why we include both /r/bitcoin and /r/btc as links, despite their quarrels and disagreements. We think that everyone should simply be provided with the resources/information they need to make intelligent trading/investment decisions. There is no advertising, covert shilling, ulterior motives, affiliations. The order in which subreddits appear is not well-thought out or intentional, and is fairly random for now, until we think of a better way of organizing things.

I am posting here to see what level of interest there is in this project. So far the moderators of around 2 dozen subreddits have agreed to link back to the network, including some rather big ones (/r/cryptocurrency, /r/dogecoin, /r/cryptocurrencies, among others).

The subreddit itself (/r/CryptoTraderNetwork) is still in its infancy, and isn't well-defined in its goal or anything. Originally I was going to leave it blank, but others have been interested in posting information, and trying to make a community/hub of some sort. The main goal is to create and maintain this page, which simply lists various crypto-related subreddits. That is the page that other subreddits are linking back to, and acts as the central landing page of the network.

I am hoping to gain some support from trading communities such as this one. I'm open to any thoughts/ideas/suggestions/requests/criticism, and I would be grateful for any support that can be given.

Canada Banks Ban Users From Buying Cryptocurrency

    Posted: 11 Apr 2018 04:56 AM PDT

Canadian banks are not taking to the cryptocurrency craze. Just days ago, BMO Financial Group (the Bank of Montreal) announced that it would ban its credit and debit card customers from participating in cryptocurrency purchases with their cards. This makes Bank of Montreal the latest Canadian financial institution to make a move against the digital currency trend, according to decentralpost.com. Canadian investors looking to buy cryptocurrencies are increasingly forced to look to a limited range of options to facilitate their purchases.

    Major Canadian Banks Ban Transactions

Bank of Montreal is only the most recent major Canadian bank to issue a ban for its customers. Last month, Toronto Dominion (TD Bank) blocked its customers from buying digital currencies. Recently, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), the country's second-largest bank by assets, determined that it would allow cryptocurrency transactions only "in limited circumstances," although it did not ban digital currency purchases for its users outright.

Margin trading on Poloniex and Bitcoin.tax

    Posted: 10 Apr 2018 01:15 PM PDT

Hello everyone, I am sure many people here are in a rush to get their taxes done. I selected bitcoin.tax for my taxes but have been having some really big issues with them which is discouraging considering they seem to be the main place that people recommend for getting that stuff done around here.

When I first imported my full transaction history from Bitfinex, Binance, Bittrex, Coinbase, GDAX, and Poloniex, I had completely wrong estimates for how much capital gains I had made, like an entire magnitude off. After working with them and reimporting stuff a few times, it seems like those issues are mainly worked out. Still, I'm not sure I would recommend the site in general because at least for me with 10000+ transactions it has having extreme lag all the time, the calculate page doesn't work at all, and many other parts are very slow or take many retries to load (despite me paying 100 bucks for this).

I just have a question for those of you who HAVE used it successfully though. How the hell do you deal with margin trading on Poloniex? I am probably going to have to manually work through every single one of those margin trades and report them as either a gain or loss in BTC or whatever I was holding because bitcoin.tax is interpreting all of these margin trades as just generating free money for myself despite me taking gains or losses on the trades and of course giving back whatever I lended at the end of each position. Do you guys have any advice for this because honestly I'm probably just gonna delete every margin trade from my history as it's incompatible from the website and then just do my best to say the result after that position was closed...
