Mike Hearn will be returning briefly to /r/btc for an AMA on 14:00 UTC Thrusday 5th of April

    Posted: 03 Apr 2018 04:52 PM PDT

It would be a rare bitcoin enthusiast that doesn't know who Mike Hearn is. One of the earliest devs to get involved in bitcoin and with his seminal project, BitcoinJ, was the first person other than Satoshi himself to implement the bitcoin protocol. Big blockers will remember him as one of the key champions of the movement to keep bitcoin on the path laid out in the original whitepaper.

There have been many expressions of interest on reddit in recent months about what Mike might be up to now and whether he could be enticed back to reddit for an AMA session. There's a whole thread on the subject here: https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/84a0ry/ask_mike_hearn_anything_amha_mike_doesdid_bitcoin/

I was fortunate enough to have gotten to know Mike in the early days of bitcoin as a contributor to bitcoinj so I reached out to him about this and he has kindly agreed to do so. I'm sure many of us will look forward to hearing his views on the state of bitcoin and the events that have transpired since his departure. So please start thinking up some good questions to ask him.

/u/mike_hearn will start the AMA thread in /r/btc at 14:00 UTC on Thursday the 5th April. New York time: 10am Thurs, LA time: 7am Thurs, Sydney: Midnight Wed

    My CSW Rant

    Posted: 03 Apr 2018 09:28 PM PDT

I'm sick of hearing about CSW this, CSW that. But since that seems to be the topic du jour, I might as well get my own rant in and be done with this topic.

First of all, Bitcoin (BCH) is trustless, permissionless, and agnostic. It's not about people and personalities. At least it shouldn't be.

So whether you support CSW or you don't, whether you believe he's Satoshi or not, shouldn't matter. Can we get on with adoption and growing the ecosystem already?

I'm pretty sure there's a concerted effort to troll around this particular point, because well... trolls will try to attack BCH from every angle, including the big names associated with it.

I'd like to point out that at the end of the day, all such ad hominem attacks are still ad hominem attacks, and therefore weak.

But they are especially weak for those trying to prove Craig wasn't part of Satoshi as if that even matters. SATOSHI was on record calling for on chain scaling and an electronic cash system.

If he is Satoshi and doesn't want to be known, creating doubt was a brilliant strategy that seems to be working great.

If he's not Satoshi and you're upset he's getting too much attention, then why do you help him by giving him even more attention when you fuel the drama/controversy?

Regardless of whether he's Satoshi or not, or whether he's even right or wrong about various technical points, I think its unfair to accuse him of "fraud" because claiming to be Satoshi (and then not proving) isn't fraud. Also, giving away tons of money to various BCH endeavors doesn't seem like fraud either.

And if he is Satoshi, guess what: that doesn't mean he can't be wrong about something. I'm a little tired of hearing arguments along the lines of "oh he lost a bet. Obviously that means (jump to conclusion)"

    And finally, perhaps most importantly:

People tend to give credence to Dr. Wright BECAUSE he is strongly in favor of on-chain scaling, which we believe in.

    NOT the other way around.

The trolls would like to have everyone believe that we only give credence to on chain scaling because we "believe in our leaders".

I can understand that some people lack technical understanding and don't know who to listen to. But there are enough of us here with enough brains to have our own ideas, to do our own research, and frankly, to use basic common sense.

We're going to scale Bitcoin (BCH) on chain to be a global peer to peer electronic cash system. If you think you're going to stop us by discrediting any one individual (whether they deserve it or not), well, you won't.

The constant stream of CSW is great / CSW is a fraud posts has become very annoying. I'm starting to think it's an attack on the btc sub itself by making it unbearable to actually read.

    AMA Co-founder Ari Cryptonize.it

    Posted: 03 Apr 2018 01:02 PM PDT

I'm Ari, co-founder of cryptonize.it I think it was December when yet another Bitpay announcement was made about accepting Bitcoin Cash, which ofcourse, they didn't… again. I wanted to be part of the solution instead of just not happy about it and I just had quite my corporate job, so I made a form you could fill in so you could buy anything online with Bitcoin Cash. It was totally unexpected that you guys would react in the positive way that you did and thanks to all your tips and support, we've managed to attract vendors and make cryptonize.it the first real Bitcoin Cash exclusive online retailer where you can literally buy anything with Bitcoin Cash. Many of you use it and I want to take this opportunity to thank you for it. Without people using services, there is no point in offering a service. That is also what we think about when we think about expansion, while trying to actually expand by attracting more vendors. We eventually want to let the ones that bring in value (the users) have a share in the profits and we're going to start doing that with the Cryptonized Cash incentives program. We're also developing the CashPay wallet which will be a Bitcoin Cash exclusive wallet with down the line Spend & Replace functionality, enabling you to spend Bitcoin Cash and automatically get it replaced. If you hang out on Discord you might also know we're planning some fun things in Amsterdam to increase adoption in physical stores, but that's something you'll hear and see more about soon!

Also, compliments to the mods who have made this subreddit one of the few places where you can voice your opinion and not get insta-banned. Seems obvious but reality teaches us, these kind of places online are getting scarcer by the day.

I'll be answering questions for as long as questions are asked.

Bitcoin Cash is the Better Bitcoin

    Posted: 03 Apr 2018 02:42 PM PDT

Bitcoin Cash is the Better Bitcoin:

    • For the hodlers BCH has better upside potential in price.
    • For the adopters BCH has better merchant growth and user apps.
    • For the community BCH has better discussion.
    • For the merchants BCH has better transaction speeds.
    • For the users BCH has better (lower) fees.
    • For the unbanked BCH has better accessibility.
    • For the future BCH has made better progress actually scaling.

I've spent months watching the war wage between BTC and BCH and concluded that the narrative "Bitcoin Cash is Bitcoin" is hurting more than it's helping.

Hold off on the downvote! Check my post history if you want - I'm a true believertm - hear me out!

Bitcoin Cash IS Bitcoin, but that phrase is SO easy for shills to twist to their benefit and make it look like this community is trying to deceive the public. Average Joe loads up his Coinbase account to buy 'Bitcoin' and receives BTC. Later he reads "BCH is Bitcoin" and starts asking questions that result in being quickly indoctrinated into the BTC cult. It's a losing battle.

You can't expect to win by having a superior product alone - the dustbin of history is filled with counter examples. PsyOps is a real and effective tactic and we are getting our butts kicked: https://twitter.com/CalvinAyre/status/980605038094635016

The anti-BCH campaign has been so effective that the shill army successfully bootstrapped an actual community of 'bcash haters'. If you think all the hate is coming from paid shills you are wrong - I've been talking to people IRL who are generally smart with opinions I value, and even they parrot back the 'bcash is a scam' talking points.

"Bitcoin Cash is Bitcoin" puts BCH supporters on the defensive and starts a debate about "What is Bitcoin?" that only people who are very well informed (ie. read the whitepaper, have studied Bitcoin history, AND have an open mind) will understand. Most people will NOT satisfy all 3 criteria and that is why the propaganda campaign is so effective.

Don't despair - there is a way to neutralize a large part of this propaganda. May I gently suggest that we adopt a BETTER phrase - "Bitcoin Cash is the Better Bitcoin!". Go ahead, try it out - I think you'll find that deep down these words just feel ... better!

This phrase is powerful in ways that aren't obvious at first. For starters, you don't have to enter into a losing debate about what defines bitcoin. When somebody hears it (and BCH) for the first time they will ask "how is it better?" instead of "is it really Bitcoin (subliminally - am I being scammed)?" - the first question kicks off a much better discussion. Second - there are so many different ways (listed above) that BCH is the better bitcoin for all kinds of people. You will often find that counter arguments against "Bitcoin Cash is the Better Bitcoin" devolve into some kind of weak sauce about the lightning network. Poking holes in the future utopia of LN is left as an exercise to the reader.

From now on, I'm switching to "Bitcoin Cash is the Better Bitcoin" - it sparks a better debate with better outcomes. I hope you will too.
