    Have you guys noticed it?

Seriously, I'm debasing these people from fanatic cucks to outright scammers.

Yeah, that's right, this is scamming everyone putting their hopes in LN - the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow right next to the leprechaun with a red neckbeard.

I think no one should really get worried that they are starting to copy us, this is only one more nail to the coffin.

I had a great uber ride this morning. Cointext rocks!!

    Posted: 21 Mar 2018 03:38 PM PDT

I was heading to the airport for my flight to Tokyo (#satoshisvision) and started chatting to the driver about Bitcoin. He had the usual Normie awareness of Bitcoin and asked 'aren't they $10,000 each?' So I explained satoshis and how it's possible to send tiny quantities around. He's an immigrant from Somalia and explained that over there most people use mobile phones and send each other money by text message. Long story short, I sent him $1 via cointext and gave him my email. He said he would talk about it with his son and get back to me. He seemed very impressed with cointext. I told him that it's one of the best methods of sending money overseas as there's nobody taking a cut and it's instant. Cointext FTW!!

The Lightning Network (as implicitly created by LND 0.4) is a pyramid scheme

    Posted: 21 Mar 2018 06:06 PM PDT

A new user Alice joins the Lightning Network (LN) by creating a node and one or more channels from it to existing LN nodes.

When creating a channel to Bob, she must provide some amount V of funding, in the direction from Alice to Bob, that is locked in the channel.

If Bob is running LND 0.4, his computer will automatically accept the channel from Alice. However, Bob's computer cannot automatically decide to lock any of Bob's coins into it. Thus the channel will normally get zero funding in the direction from Bob to Alice.

At any later time, the net amount of payments through that channel will be some amount X between 0 and V, from Alice to Bob. Alice can receive payments from Bob through that channel, but only up to the net amount X that she already paid to Bob.

Therefore, if the nodes are split into new (N) and old (O) at some arbitrary date, those "semi-automatic" channels will be funded only in the direction from N to O only.

A channel with funding from old user Bob to new user Alice will get created only if Alice explicitly asks Bob to provide such funding, and Bob agrees. This case will hardly be as common as the semi-automatic channels from N to O.

At any later time, the total balance of all those semi-automatic channels will be either zero (unlikely), or some positive amount paid by the N nodes to the O nodes. The N nodes cannot receive from the O nodes more than what they already paid to them.

As the channels get closed, those net balances will become permanent transfers from newer users to older users.

The general channeling of money from new users to earlier users is the key feature of pyramid schemes.

I assume that this "pyramidal" character of the LN (as defined by LND 0.4) was unintentional and unconscious. It is one of the problems that could have been detected by a minimally realistic numerical simulation -- which the developers should have performed before releasing the software for general use.

The LN developers would probably have detected this problem also if the test-net and main-net networks has been instrumented so that anyone could monitor the payments through each channel.

That tippr bot is a great tool for you guys...thanks!

    Posted: 21 Mar 2018 08:14 PM PDT

A month or two ago, I asked how the tippr bot worked and someone tipped me a dollar! I found out how to withdraw and suddenly I have some! Now I feel like I have a connection with this currency, I want it to succeed (selfishly of course so far), but if you want to spread the utility and love of this, I'd say using the bot is the best thing you guys can do.

ShapeShift is paying 320+sat/b on BCH transaction in miner fee´s when converting LTC->BCH

    Posted: 22 Mar 2018 01:16 AM PDT

I´m having issues with ShapeShift since yesterday, the have rised the miner fee´s to 320 and 321sat/b on the BCH transactions. I´m currently using their services every night to convert LTC->BCH and have been doing for quite a while, every convertion before yesterday have had a mining fee of 1sat/b as it should be. But since yesterday i think that they have been doing extreme overpayments in miner fee´s.

I´ve been in contact with the support and they are claiming that this is because of congestion in the BCH network, but I can´t find anything to back this claim up. Are they correct?
