Posted: 26 Mar 2018 11:18 AM PDT Sorry for the title gore, but I've just noted this. This is an obvious lie. In SPV, you hold your own keys. A backup is as easy as saving the deterministic seed. You can verify that your transactions are indeed in the chain by the checking the headers which contain the PoW as well as the Merkle Root. You can receive money while offline. You can even send money while offline if you can connect to the receiver via NFC/Bluetooth, something very useful in meatspace commerce (your phone is not connected, but the merchant's PoS is). On LN, apparently you can't really run a node on your phone, due to the requirements of always being online both to pay and to receive, if not even other problems I'm unaware of. On retail commerce the need to have a phone wallet is pretty much unavoidable, so that means that for LN retail commerce you'll always have to let somebody else run your node, or have a complicated setup between your phone and some always-online machine you control. If you don't run the node yourself, well, somebody else will need to be able to sign those payments on your channel on your behalf. I don't see how that can be done if this person doesn't have access to your keys, and thus, to your money. Oh, and as we've seen of lately, backups cannot be deterministic and must be diligently done at every transaction, otherwise you risk losing your money. And, finally, even if you run your own node connected all the time, you must also trust those you have channels with to actually forward your payments and not to censor you. You can't just open new channels the same way you'd open new network connections with your BCH SPV wallet in order to avoid this kind of Sybil attack, because channels have an actual cost to be opened, and it's not so easy to find a peer. LN requires way, way more trust than SPV. To even compare both on this regard is preposterous. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Mar 2018 07:40 AM PDT To everyone here holding unpopular opinions, you are the biggest asset of this community and you are welcome here. Please share your unpopular opinions. As long as they are honest do not be afraid of downvotes and debate, just throw them out there. If you are right then you will be teaching a lot of us something new. If you are wrong you will learn something new. Either way it's a win-win. Sharing your ideas/opinions facilitates the spread of information for everyone. [link] [comments]

This might be where BTC and BCH prices stop this BFF behavior. Posted: 27 Mar 2018 01:55 AM PDT Between cointext inevitably going viral, the undeniably legit Satoshi's Vision conference and the other top coins posting nothing but bad news(ETH looking slightly better I suppose), I think it's about that time. Also the Bollinger bands on the daily BTC/BCH chart have been really really skinny for about a week now. in Bband analysis that's considered "the calm before the storm". Once it gets started it's gonna trend hard for while, and think that trend just might be UP. Hold on to your hats and text BCH to your friends as much as you can! [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Mar 2018 02:04 AM PDT Hi everyone, my name is Eric and I started LocalBitcoinCash.org with the help of many amazing people from the Bitcoin Cash community. I am deeply inspired by the Bitcoin Cash community and in awe of many members from this community. I think there are a lot of very smart amazing people in the Bitcoin Cash community and I'm extremely optimistic about the future of Bitcoin Cash because of the people involved in it. I have said it before, personally I feel the biggest heroes of Bitcoin Cash are the unsung heroes working tirelessly in the background, spreading the word of Bitcoin Cash to their friends and family members and strangers. For those who don't already know, Bitcoin Cash has the potential to usher in a new age for humanity where wars, economic inequality, hyperinflation, social immobility may become a thing of the past. Bitcoin Cash allows anyone, anywhere in the world, to send money to each other for less than 1 cent, instantly, safely, without requiring any permission from anyone (banks or government), and its value does not get destroyed by hyperinflation. It enables cross national peer to peer trade of goods and services in ways that wasn't possible before. That's a very exciting future I think. I would like to do an AMA here until 1st April 2018 so feel free to ask away any questions related to Bitcoin Cash or LocalBitcoinCash.org. I will ask my team members to come chip in if they wanted to. [link] [comments]
