All the Ways Regulators Plan to Tame Bitcoin: How the rules evolve will help determine whether last year’s cryptocurrency boom was a flash in the pan, or the start of something bigger

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 03:27 AM PST

    Article URL: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-27/bitcoin-s-wildest-days-are-over-as-regulators-circle-quicktake

    From the article:

It took one of the wildest investment manias in history to jolt them into action, but governments around the world are finally starting to regulate cryptocurrencies. Their approaches have run the gamut, from a massive crackdown in China to an exchange-licensing regime in Japan and a largely hands-off system in Switzerland. Some countries, most notably the U.S., have yet to formulate a comprehensive strategy. But on the whole, oversight is increasing. How the rules evolve will help determine whether last year's cryptocurrency boom was a flash in the pan, or the start of something bigger.

    Sections of the article:

    1. Why are regulators concerned about cryptocurrencies?
    2. What steps are policy makers taking in the U.S.?
    3. What about the rest of the world?
    4. What is the financial services industry doing?
    5. How have markets responded to increased oversight?
    6. What does the crypto industry say about regulation?
    7. What should we watch for next?

I thought it was a fairly interesting, but short article. Thoughts?

What a random market might look like

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 01:25 PM PST

    many random charts.

First, I randomly generate a number -10 to 10 and add it to the price to create a random graph.

Next I tried skipping a random number of samples (to make it more random / try a different 'flavour')

Then I try more samples (30,000)

Then I try doing Random() by random(3) to "exagerate" the numbers a bit. Just for fun really.

I was struck how much it does look like a market, and how my "bitcoin vision" goes into swing, despite it being utterly random. Just for interest. This feeds into the discussion about T.A and is the market predictable.

I'm keen to know your thoughts.

    Problem with Bitmex trading

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 06:58 AM PST

Can someone please explain to me why the .Bxbt and .XBTUSD prices are so different? right now the real .XBTUSD price is ~10,500 but the .BXBT price is ~10,800.

I think it has something to do with leaving a trade open overnight/through the funding period but I'm still new to this and I can't find the exact answer. I'm on the testnet so it doesn't really matter, but I can only buy and sell contracts at +$300 the market price, and I definitely want to figure this out before I start trading for real.

My trade at $10,450 should have went through but I currently have this markup so the trade didn't happen. What's the dilly

    Top commenters of /r/BitcoinMarkets

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 03:00 PM PST

I thought it would be interesting to see the top commenters of this sub, since I follow a couple of people on here to decide what move to do next. Here's the result:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/subreddit_stats/comments/7zjoht/subreddit_stats_bitcoinmarkets_top_posts_from/

Note that I don't really know what 'top commenters' exactly means, but from what I can understand it calculates the total comment and karma of the users in a specific sub.

    Here's the copy/pasted list:

Edit: It normally included comments from 365 years ago or less.

    Edit 2: I meant 365 days!
