Basic Trading Tool: Fee-Inclusive Target Price & Profit/Loss Spreadsheet (Bitmex)

    Posted: 16 Feb 2018 01:57 PM PST

    Hello,

So I've been playing around on Bitmex's testnet (and will probably dive into the real thing soon), but I made this spreadsheet to calculate the trading price impact of maker/taker fees and the real (as opposed to advertised) initial margin.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16C7S4en4gmLJfkmEb7La6j7n03Ri5HBWls02GPxH614/copy

It's pretty basic but is also helpful for showing newcomers like myself why market/taker orders and 100x leverage aren't a great idea.

Thought I'd share -- hope someone finds it helpful. Any feedback or questions are welcome.

It's more realistic than the on-site P&L calculator which doesn't include fees. It's setup for Bitmex's margin requirements and fees but should be straightforward to adjust those figures for other exchanges.

It doesn't take into account funding rates though.

    Cheers

    http://tabbforum.com/news/number-of-crypto-hedge-funds-soars-amid-bitcoin-volatility

"LONDON (Reuters) - Hedge funds focused on trading cryptocurrencies have struggled to eke out returns this year amid a sharp sell-off in the highly volatile market, in spite of a flood of new funds setting up to deploy investor cash. The number of crypto hedge funds more than doubled in the four months to Feb. 15, data from fintech research house Autonomous NEXT showed on Thursday. The research firm recorded a record high of 226 global hedge funds with such a strategy, up from 110 global hedge funds as of Oct. 18. That itself was up from 55 funds at Aug. 29 and just 37 at the start of 2017. (For the graphic 'Crypto funds flood the market' click - reut.rs/2o0QAaq) ..."

    Bitcoin and Foreign Exchange(FOREX) 101

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:09 AM PST

Bitcoin will continue to rise in USD price. Why ? Current and projected US deficit spending weakens the dollar internationally. International buyers get a lot more dollars for their non-US currencies. Bitcoin free market pricing is influenced primarily by supply, and demand, not by governments. Even though Bitcoin speculation contributes to price volatility, this increases profit/loss opportunity and great liquidity.

Whereas massive US deficit spending will drive up interest rates, the underlying bond prices/returns are no match for the small investment required to own full or fractional Bitcoins.

This means that Bitcoin is affordable to even the smallest investor.
