Mining with PC on one card while gaming on the other?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 06:53 AM PST

I'm new to mining and hope someone could help me. So my pc is mostly used for gaming but during the night i started mining some altcoins with my GTX 960 (i know that's not the best card). My thoughts are now to get a better card for mining (maybe a radeon 4xx or 5xx) and connect it to my mobo (Asus H97 plus) so that i can mine on it, while doing other stuff on my 960, for example gaming. Would this be even possible? And will the performance while gaming suffer from the mining process? Would it be possible to mine on both during idle time?

CPU is i7-4790K @4GHZ and 16 GB ram.

Hope anyone can help me or tell me why it wouldn't work. Thank you

Minergate making fake accounts on Reddit to combat bad press?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 06:53 AM PST

Let's establish this: Minergate has been accused of skimming off the top for a long time now

So I found this site where there was an ad claiming that Minergate gives you a better hashrate, knowing the scam, I posted about it here.

First few days were actual users, but since then, there have been multiple new accounts (all < 15 days) defending Minergate and saying that NH and other pools are ALL scams. Knowing this was utter BS, I checked their accounts and all their posts and comments were related to either how good Minergate is or how NH is a scam and how they 'stole' everyone's money.

Here is an example user: /u/utury

PS: there were more comments but the accounts or comments were deleted.

    Opinions?

    Before risers

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 04:41 AM PST

Back in the day when this all started. How did people manage to get more than three or four graphic cards running using a single motherboard?

    Just a curious question.

Why Is No One Using The AMD R9 280X?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 07:41 AM PST

I am looking into building a mining rig on a relatively small budget and I have been able to find that the AMD R9 280X seems to be a great choice but I have heard very little people using it for mining. I am able to find the card for around $120 To $150 CAD used on EBay and can get around 300H/S on EquiHash which should earn me nearly $100 CAD a month meaning that the card has a very low ROI of around 45 days. The only downside to this card seems to be it very high wattage. It has a 250W TDP but that should not be too much of an issue for me as electricity is very cheap where I live at around 0.08KW*H. My question is if there is a catch or if there are better GPUs that I can find for the same price.

    Thanks.

What’s algorithms are good for nvidia cards right now ?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 01:26 AM PST

I'm an amd man myself but asking for a friend.

He's tried nice hash (legacy and normal) but not that good at moment.

I've heard of other profit switching pools just for nvidia like altminer etc

Which pools/algo are good at the moment ?

    Thanks

2x HP 1200W PSU with same serial numbers, clone?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 01:19 AM PST

I ordered 2x HP 1200W power supplies off of Ali Express and just noticed they have identical serial numbers. The rest of the label matches other images on the Internet, but the duplicate serial number screams fishy to me.

Seems like a fake knock off.

    Has anyone encountered this before?

    Pic via Imgur

EDIT: Does anyone else have an example of fake matching serial number? I can't find anything with my Google-fu. Is this the first of many like this? Or are many people running fakes and don't know?

Will my existing motherboard support 6 GPUs?

Basically I am building an open frame GPU riser chassis and will have a total of 3 1070s and my 1060 mining by the end of the week. I have one EVGA 850W G3 to power the 4 cards, and I can use my 550W G2 for extra power if needed (It runs 2 cards and the system with 0 problems and at about ~400W draw).

My main question is if I get more graphics cards, would my motherboard support them? I purchased a 6 pack of these risers since it was cheaper than getting 2 sets of 2. The 6700k is definitly overkill for this system, but it's currently making me ~$1.00 a day so I'll mine with it until it is not that profitable. I don't pay for electricity so that is not a cost concern.

If anyone has suggestions on what to do with my setup, I would be happy to hear it. I currently use NiceHash since it seems like it pulls the most profit.

    Thanks.

New to cryptocurrency mining - need some honest reviews about Minergate.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 05:37 AM PST

Hello, dear reader! As the title suggests, I am just getting started with crypto-mining. Some of the very first tutorials that I watched recommended Minergate as the go-to platform to start mining. When I checked for reviews online, I got quite diverse opinions on different websites - Minergate is 9/10 on some websites and 2/5 on another. All this is confusing, so I would like to receive some enlightenment from those who have personally experienced using Minergate - especially the transactions part. Would you recommend it based on your experience? If not, what alternative(s) would you suggest?

Thanks in advance for your time! :)

    Running 2x1080 from 500W PSU?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 05:01 AM PST

    What I'm thinking is that..I have 500 W PSU

    • Running 2*1080 at 65% TDP would be 234 Watts.

    • Fx-6100 has TDP of 90 W.

    • That would leave me 171 Watts for Motherboard, RAM and SSD? I guess it would be enough?

    Any thoughts?

H270 -prime plus doesn't show more than 3 GPU's (SMOS) Bounty 1 VTC

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 04:24 AM PST

    Hello guys =)

    II got these components:

    -4x GTX 1070 ti

    -2x GTX 1080 (didn't arrive yet)

    -G4400

    -4GB DDR4 Ram

    -ASUS h270 Prime - Plus

    -LC Power 1000W v2.4

    -6x Version 008s Risers

    -USB Stick for Smos

-Case (some 4U Server Rack for mining)

When I boot into smos I just see 3 GPU and when I plug one out it still shows 3. When the PC starts and goes into the bootloader there's like 4x flashing white and rainbow colors.

What I did: -Check Risers: work

    -Update BIOS to latest: check

-Set everything to Gen 2: check

    -Disable HD audio: check

    -Disable SATA: check

    -Disable serial port: check

    Greetings =)

    Adding on a different GPU?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 04:22 AM PST

Hello I don't know how long the gpu drought will be for, so i cant get my hands on a vega 56 to mine Electroneum. Im currently using my gaming machine to mine with a 1060 and i was thinking would it be possible for me to buy myself a 1050ti and add onto my 1060 for the time being? The 1060s prices are far too expensive right now so im finding an quick alternative..

Will it be as simple as plug and play?>

Low ETH hash rate on stock RX 480

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 03:49 AM PST

    Hi,

I've been playing with my RX 480 for the last few days and I can't get the hash rate out that I read about all over the internet. It's supposed to get 22-24 MH/s on stock settings, I even saw 28 MH/s on some website, which I assume is false.

However, I can't seem to get more than 17.5 MH/s. Here are my settings in MSI Afterburner:

    • Power limit - 0% (stock)
    • Temp limit - 90 degrees (stock), reaches about 85 and stays there
    • Core clock - 1290 MHz (stock)
    • Memory clock - 2250 MHz (up from 2000 MHz stock)
    • Drivers v. 18.1.1.

Am I missing something? Is the lower hash rate a result of the increased difficulty? I thought they weren't related.

    [Question] R9 290 Mining rig in 2018?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 05:55 PM PST

As there is a massive GPU shortage right now I see that the R9 290's are easily available on eBay for $200-$300 knowing that they do atleast 30mh/s on ethereum is it worth it to purchase 6 of these cards

XMR Stak - One of my GPUs will not start second thread (RX550)

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 02:37 AM PST

Hello guys, I am troubleshooting my first mining rig (6x RX550) and I have this issue where no matter what I set in my amd config file one of my GPUs simply won't start second thread.

all my gpus are set like this :

    { "index" : 3, "intensity" : 256, "worksize" : 8, "affine_to_cpu" : false }, { "index" : 3, "intensity" : 256, "worksize" : 8, "affine_to_cpu" : false },

I tried running them all stock without OC even lowering powerlimits. But nothing helps. Any ideas ?

    All other GPUs run well.
