Mining in the Alps has its advantages :P

I have this sneaking suspicion that mining rigs are actually just like goobleboxes and we're in a microverse paying for someone's flying car.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 05:30 PM PST

Is this too extreme of a conspiracy theory? Like our miner dev fees are actually getting funneled into another dimension and getting used frivolously by other beings?

Added new card to setup. Suddenly getting decreased performance on new card when old cards switch to their most profitable algorithm.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 06:44 AM PST

Hey all! I've got a rather strange problem with my mining setup. My software is Awesome Miner, and my pool is MiningPoolHub. I've been running an RX 480 and RX 580 but recently acquired a GTX 1070 Ti. After getting stable clocks on all the cards individually and setting up one miner profile for AMD and another for Nvidia, I left it to run. My Zcash miner runs normally across all three cards, but things get weird when my AMD cards switch to mining Ethereum directly. My AMD cards run normally, but the 1070 Ti's values plummet from ~500 Sols to around 80 Sols. Any ideas what might be causing this negative interplay?

How can I control fan speed on more than 8 cards ?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 06:15 AM PST

So, I'm currently using msi afterburner but I'm running 13 cards and I need to adjust the fan speed on an additional card or so that I can see in the GPU list. Is there a way to do this ?

Is there a way to unlock the locked p2 state on 1070s?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 07:31 AM PST

I've tried it with numerous methods but found out eventually from my experience on forum posts as well, that it is pretty much locked down really well. Any way to bypass it?

    anybody 3d printed a case?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 07:22 AM PST

we consider switching to 8x GPU mainboards and close cases for max airlfow, similar to the new genesis mining layout. (link

however, those cases cost about 150$ if we order 100 pieces , at least we couldnt find it cheaper.

we thought about simply 3d printing them. have pins for the mainboard to hold, a bar for resting GPUs and slots for blowin/blowout fans. seems easy to print. buying 5 printers and lots of material sounds fairly cheaper then buying them we wont stack them above each other, so just next each other on a shelv.

    anybody got experience?

Optimal TDP limit of GTX 1070s?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 04:44 AM PST

I have been overclocking cards for a long time, but for mining I see that people usually heavily boost the Vram and main clock speeds, but decrease the power. I find that when you do this, it proportionally decreases the hashing power. Do you guys do this to allow for less strain on a PSU and overall longevity of the cards? Any feedback would be helpful for something looking to optimize their system. I'm going to be running 3 1070s, a 1060, CPU mining with a 6700k, and I have a 500GB SSD with 32GB of RAM. This is going to be powered with a 850W G3.

Any reports of stolen mining rigs?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 05:24 AM PST

With people spending thousands in mining rigs I've been wondering on whether miners have been targeted by thieves.

I only found this post that appears to be real (but who knows). Found another one here on reddit but I think it is a fake.

Have you heard of people getting robbed or saw something of the kind in the news?

    8 1070ti build for today

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 05:39 PM PST

I think people just HOPE the prices for gpus come down but there is no real indication of that.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 08:18 AM PST

I see it all the time. From people on here that say to wait to buy cards. From the gaming subs where they constantly think everything is gonna crash and the cheap cards will be coming very soon.

I honestly think its just wishful thinking. Everyone wants to get a good deal on cards but realistically what do you expect the prices to be one month from now?

They are sold out almost everywhere. Demand is at an all time high. That 1080ti you paid $1000 for today will probably be worth more in a month.

Where is the reasoning that prices will ever drop? The demand is increasing everyday and nvidia/amd have signaled that they will NOT increase supply.

    More proftiable alternatives to nicehash?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 08:16 AM PST

I have a rig with 2 GTX 970s and a GTX 1080 and have been using nicehash for about 2 weeks now. I think i finally got the kinks worked out and my OC nailed down. I was wondering if there are any more profitable alternatives to nicehash that are worth switching to? I have heard of awesomeminer and miningpoolhub before but didnt know if there are others out there to consider. Thanks.

Thanks for all the help guys. New 6 x 1080ti rig

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 08:04 AM PST

Hey guys just wanted to thank everybody for all the help getting this thing set up. I swear every time I added another GPU, I ran into a new problem. One of the most frustrating this I've ever done. And when I was switching PSU's both my hard drives failed some reason. I turned my rendering machine into a rendering/mining rig and continued to use my old case. Now I just wish all my 1080ti's were the same.

Oh and if anyone has any tips of cable management, I would be forever grateful.

Awesome Miner not starting mining process.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 07:32 AM PST

Just build my rig yesterday and awesome miner is giving me this error when I try to start to mine.

I read the FAQ and I excluded the awesome miner folder like it told me. It was mining for about half an hour, then the screen went black and I had to switch the hdmi cable to my other gpu for some reason, restarted the rig and now I'm back to square one :/

Is it common for risers to just stop and die?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 07:22 AM PST

    2 x GPU RX580nitros at 30mhs a card, headless mining rig.

Mining happily for days/weeks on end then I noticed the fans were pushing cold air out but still spinning. Jumped onto teamviewer and logged in, saw that ccminer was stuck in a loop where it doesnt get any new work and you usually have to stop and start the miner again to fix. Did that and the program didnt start again. So it was late and I just turned the machine off completely.

When iv come back to it this morning, the PC isnt detecting the cards on the BIOs and the cards do not power on or fans spin on boot.

Took the cards out and tried them in another PC, they work fine, lights come on and the fans spin.

So this leads me to believe the risers are at fault but I do not have any spare ones, is this a common thing to happen? If so are there any brands that can be recommended as these were fairly cheap ones from Amazon.

New rig rebooting - help please :(

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 07:18 AM PST

    Hi all - specs below:

    -2x EVGA 650W P2
    -MSI SLI Plus MB
    -4GB RAM
    -120GB SSD
    -4x Gigabyte 1070ti
    -this PSU connector
    -these risers
    -Windows 10

My problem is I got the build up and running w/ 4 cards, drivers updated, etc but when trying both MultiPoolMiner and NiceHash it would run for 10-15 minutes then freeze completely. This morning I've tried running with 1 card only (the one powering the monitor) and within 5 minutes the PC rebooted itself.

Now - I had multiple risers in my Amazon wish list and ordered the wrong damn ones so right now I am running with SATA to 6 pin connectors per the risers above (yes I know the risks, I'm sitting right beside it all day). I have molex risers on order that should be here Monday but was at least trying to get things up and running to tweak settings.

Any idea what could be causing constant reboots and/or freezes? My wemo was showing 750-800W when all 4 cards were running yesterday at the wall so I don't think the PSU's are faulty - could the SATA risers be the crux of all this, or do I have a shitty motherboard with issues?

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

Edit #1: Just put the 1st GPU directly into the first x16 slot on the MB to cut out the riser and see if I still get freezes/reboots. Will report back.

Edit #2: 30 min of the 1st GPU running directly on the board and no freezes/reboots. Going to try a 2nd card directly on the board next but all signs point to the SATA risers (surprise, surprise). Just ordered 6 pin M/F extension so I can use the PCIE 8/6 from the PSU to power both 1 card and 1 riser each - hopefully that solves the issue. If not, guess I'll have to get new risers completely.

    Powering risers

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 06:57 AM PST

    Hey all,

So my pci-e risers only have a 6 pin connector on them, and came with Sata-6pin adapters which I wont be using. What can I use to power them without having to use adapters that will burn my house down?

For reference I am using a corsair 1200 watt psu and 1080ti cards. I currently only have 3, and am using the pci-e cables to power the cards, and two pci-e cables to power the risers (since they have 6 pin connectors). Unfortunately this ate up all my pci-e connections on my psu, as I was going for an 8 card rig setup.

Are there any trusted 6 pin peripheral psu connection to 6 pin output cables on the market that I can plug directly from my psu to the riser?

    I stupidly bought these: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06Y35PMS7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Needless to say I wont be using those.

    PCI-E 1x (2.0) not fast enough for RX580?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 05:42 AM PST

(posted this accidentally to wrong sub yesterday, you know guys, ton of tabs open etc)

    So hey guys,

    I just bought 4 RX580 for a small rig.

And I have a problem, two of those cards pull 28MH/s with the block chain drivers and 29 to 30 with the new drivers. They are some MSI cards with Micron memory.

The other two are Asus cards with Hynix memory but they pull only ~20MH/s with exact same settings. I tried the MSI Afterburner and Wattman.

So, I have tried almost all setting I can find and the result is the same every time, ASUS cards are the slower ones and they are on 1 to 16 risers and on PCI-E 1x (2.0) connectors.

Otherwise I run Ryzen 1300, Asrock B350 M4 Pro and 1000W LC Power.

Also GPU-Z is showing only 70% of memory controller activity on those cards.

Is this due to the PCI-E risers or am I missing something here?

    Whattomine vs MiningPoolHub (awesomeminer??)

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 01:50 AM PST

Hey there, as an hobbyist (at least for the moment) ive found out according to whattomine, ethereum mining is the most profitable for gtx1060 6gb. (Actually it is for some days now according to the site)

My small rig mines at miningpoolhub with profit switching (all coins exchanged to eth, not btc) using awesomeminer and mph shows 5 or 6 equihash coins are more profitable (zec, zcl whatever..) for nvidias.

Since i set the coin i want is Eth, my question is why mph/awesome miner shows(therefor mines) other coins more profitable while whattomine shows eth is the most profitable? What am i missing here? Thanks in advance
