Another one added to the core dead-list...

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 09:20 AM PST

I was a really BCH supporter... but I still held BTC from early buys... Today after a long way I've managed to change all my BTC for BCH. It happened as I see the BTC collapse more close than ever ( if they do not reconsider their position in time).

I know many of you don't like this kind of posts , it's okey, don't upvote, I feel like doing the right thing I just wanted to share it.

    Regards !

PS : you know what ? During these days I'm not bothered, and I even start liking the name Bcash. It's even closer to Cash than Bitcoin .

    Valuable Lesson Learned!!!

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 11:04 PM PST

I have a very valuable lesson to teach.

I was trying to purchase my XRB when it was as low as AUD$0.40 however it was only available on 2 exchanges so I signed up on Mercatox to make my purchase however I needed to get BTC into my new Mercatox account to make my purchase so I purchased around $2k worth of BTC through BTC Markets (as I'm in Australia) and then I transferred it across to Mercatox.

HOWEVER, by the time my BTC cleared on Mercatox (approximately 18 hours) the price of XRB had climbed to AUD$2 86 so I was only able to purchase around 700 of them.

In hindsight if I purchased BCC / BCH instead of BTC i could have transfered them to Mercatox and then sold them pretty much instantly.

They would have cleared pretty much instantly and I would have been able to buy XRB at around AUD$0.82 or thereabouts.

This would have increased my holdings up to 2432 instead of 697.

This would mean my holdings today would be worth around $113k so the entire fiasco of waiting for my BTC transfer to clear cost me approximately $82k.

Pretty fucked when u think of it like this but a very valuable lesson that I have learned and I will NEVER make this mistake again.

Moral of the story, buy BCC / BCH instead of BTC if u want to buy other cryptos quickly 👌

New Batch of L3 miners from Bitmain and they are only accepting BCH, again.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 01:03 PM PST

Not exactly breaking news here but about 12 hours ago a new batch of L3 miners were released from Bitmain and they once again are only accepting BCH as a payment type.

    https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020180102095815160OJeIFTNR0672

I feel like this is a long term trend, of short term high demand, that we should all be aware of. This will last as long as Bitmain is only accepting this type of payment for miners which are the backbone for lots of crypto currencies.

The last time I posted about this there was some dissenting opinion about how the buying of Bitmain miners could be affecting the price. Here is the last post:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoincash/comments/7mvzah/the_reason_for_the_spike_in_price_today/

The last batch only lasted 3 hours before it sold out. It was a short term high demand for the currency. If you look at today's graph it was surging in price almost exactly 12 hours ago. Obviously, this wouldn't be the only reason why someone would buy BCH. I hope this helps anyone looking for any reasons as to why the price went up.

    Just bought BCH!

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 08:40 PM PST

I know it's not much but I just bought 0.065 BCH just to try this thing out. I've only helped my friends trade BTC before but actually never bought crypto myself. With the help of this sub I traded ether for BCH so I'm very thankful! Without the noob-guidance here that made me realize how easy it is (and how much easier it might get!) I would probably never had bothered exchanging and fixing wallets.

    Thanks guys!

I have a question though, what is this about min 6 confirmations before sending the money from shapeshift.io?

What is the Best Pool for Mining BCH?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 11:54 PM PST

I have been mining BCH for a week now on Bitcoin.com, but I have seen lower than expected returns. I have switched one miner over to Antpool and it seems to be getting slightly better returns, but I am wondering what all of your experience is.

Also, any other pool suggestions are of course great :)

Unofficial BTC -> BCH OpenBazaar Guide.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:45 PM PST

This post covers an Unofficial "conversion" of a OpenBazaar server configuration from BTC to BCH.

It is intended for people who have a store with several listings for BTC that they want to convert to a BCH store without manually copying an pasting from the old store.

    TL;DR:

    • Backup
    • Remove any BTC store Moderators,
    • Add -bitcoincash to data folder name,
    • Re-save all listings in the client after connecting to the server running with bitcoincash wallet.

    It assumes:

    • you can start a 2.1.0+ version of the server from the command line
    • you have a working understanding of the server-client nature of OpenBazaar2.0
    • you have an existing server with a BTC wallet.

    Step 0: Be careful

Although version 2.0 of Open Bazaar was released as Beta on September, 9th, it should be clear from BTC fees that not that many people have been actually using it.

There are multiple reports of buyers being able to cancel orders that the seller has fulfilled.

And numerous people that have been scammed by people selling items where the seller used themselves as moderators. here and here

This guide does not cover SSL, data-encryption or authentication but it is important to use the great security features available with openbazaar-go.

Step 1: Backup your existing data folder (BTC wallet)

Your 'data folder' is where your openbazaar-go server stores data. It holds the json for your listings, ipfs images, followers and server-settings.

Unless you have done something special, it is probably at one of the following locations:

    • Windows: C:\Users[Username]\OpenBazaar2.0
    • OSX: ~/Library/Application Support/OpenBazaar2.0
    • Linux: ~/.openbazaar2.0

For *inx like OSes, the backup can be completed with the following commands:

    OS backup data folder command
Linux et al. tar -cjvf .openbazaar2.0_backupBTC.tbz .openbazaar2.0/*
    OS X tar -cjvf ~/Documents/OpenBazaar2.0_backupBTC.tbz ~/Library/Application\ Support/OpenBazaar2.0/*

This will create a tbz and leave it hidden in your home directory or put it in your Documents folder for Linux and OS X respectively.

    Step 2: Remove BTC Moderators

The way multi-currencies have been implemented, transactions only work with users with the same type of wallet. It creates a fragmented ecosystem on the network for each currency.

    Meaning:

    • You may only purchase items in your selected wallet currency.

    • You may only moderate sales in your selected wallet currency.

    • Your store should only have moderators that also use your selected wallet currency.

At the time of writing, there are no BCH moderators.

If you currently have BTC moderators, converting your store to BCH will break the moderation capability. Further, BTC moderators will not appear in the settings for removal after conversion, but they will still be in the settings of your store.

It is easiest to simply remove moderators with the GUI client before you switch wallets.

Step 3: Move the data folder

When you start openbazaar-go with the -bitcoincash flag manually or have bitcoin cash selected as your default, your data folder has "-bitcoincash" appended to the file name.

You can simply move your old BTC data folder to the default location of the BCH folder:

OS move data folder to default location for bitcoincash
Linux et al. mv .openbazaar2.0 .openbazaar2.0-bitcoincash
    OS X mv "Library/Application Support/OpenBazaar2.0" "Library/Application Support/OpenBazaar2.0-bitcoincash"

If you started the server and selected a BCH wallet with the GUI, it will have created an empty data folder that you have to move to a different location.

Step 4: Re-save each listing to update the currency to BCH

The currency of each listing is stored in the json for the listing.

     "acceptedCurrencies": ["BTC"],

The simplest way to update the listing is simply to re-save each listing which rewrite the accepted currency to the new wallet.

     "acceptedCurrencies": ["BCH"],

Step 5: Warn BTC users with earlier versions

AFAICT Someone using a < 2.1.0 client can send BTC as payment for a BCH listing!

Prior to openbazaar-desktop 2.1.0 there was no code on the client side to prevent someone from purchasing an item using the wrong currency. With the offline IPFS nature of the listings, the purchase checks must be client side.

Purchase blocking code was introduced here:

    https://github.com/OpenBazaar/openbazaar-desktop/commit/7b9ba76f7a1b82ceb7e58665a661e834431a5879#diff-501d57c2d3309b3e5eccf1710ffde11e

When a BTC user buys a BCH listing, the order will be created and show as funded to the BTC buyer, but never show as funded to the seller running a BCH wallet.

Given the current level of intelligence/awareness of BTC hodlers, it's likely they will indignantly brigade social media, trashing both the vendor and OB, attempting to obtain a refund that will likely be negative after BTC fees.

Don't feed trolls, but also make your bridge abutments inhospitable to habitation.

Step 6 (Optional): Try using your BIP39 seed(s) elsewhere

If your old wallet had some BTC, now would be a good time to check importing your BIP39 seed into an Electrum wallet or something similar.

This will assure you that you still have access to your BTC funds without having to send them as a transaction across the network from your OpenBazaar wallet.

Likewise, check that you can import your BCH new seed into Electron Cash or your prefered BIP39 compatible wallet.

Send BCH to a Bitcoin Wallet on Bittrex by accident.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 11:38 AM PST

    Dear readers,

I send BCH to my Bitcoin Addres by Accident on Bittrex. Is there any way to recover this? It says the funds are lost on the Bittrex website. Stupid, I know, but I need you help a lot!

It seems that Bittrex Policy is that only funds worth more than 5000$ could be recovered. This means my BCH is lost (Worth around 3000$ at the moment)

Does anybody what would delay my BCH showing in my Exodus after being transferred from Bittrex

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 11:08 AM PST

I wanted to move some of my funds off exchanges and into proper wallets, I thought I would try Exodus, My ETH arrived in seconds from Coinbase my LTC took a little longer, 24 minuets. -- But I am still waiting for the BCH, sent from Bittrex- I would have expected a long delay if it was BTC but after all I have read I thought that BCH was quicker as well as cheaper. I can see it as "confirmed" on https://bitcoincash.blockexplorer.com but marked as (U) = "unspent". Can anyone tell me what U and S actually mean to me the end user? Is this a blockchain congestion issue and me being impatient or an error with Exodus? TIA
