A crypto with an actual purpose? Count me in

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 11:16 AM PST

I first heard of Ripple a few years ago and it immediately stood out from other crypto at the time. Why? Because proselytizers of other cryptos almost universally have a mindset that crypto will completely upend the financial system. This seemed blatantly absurd. Why would the political and financial elite allow their power to be taken from them? It simply cannot and will not happen. It doesnt matter how secure the protocol is, one swipe of the pen from legislators and it's illegal to accept or trade bitcoin. Illegal to trade means it's worthless as a currency, since it's hard to get and even harder to get out. Out of all the cryptos i read about at the time, Ripple seemed the most practical with the most utility.

The other issue with other crypto is their utility is severely lacking. Bitcoins original utility was being used on darknets, but that will soon be a thing of the past, and other more anonymous crypto will bump it out of the top spot in the next 6 months.

What does bitcoin do? No one uses it. It will never be used widely in the capacity is was designed for, because no one is going to spend a coin that might be worth twice as much tomorrow. It actually CAN'T be used widely because of the limitations of its protocol.

I received free ripple at that time, can't remember how much, but lost interest and lost my password/ID. Probably not recoverable, right?

Anyway, now that I hear ripple is poised to actually be used by banks to increase efficiency (and thus profit) I feel it's pretty much a certainty there is value in it. I'm going to buy some.

I live in Canada. Recommended wallets? Recommended exchanges? Recommended security reading? Thanks!

Isn't the visa block chain a direct competitor to ripple

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 06:49 PM PST

I'm new to all this and am enjoying the research. I came across this https://www.coindesk.com/visa-launches-first-phase-of-blockchain-b2b-payments-system/ As I said I am still learning but isn't this essentially what ripple are doing. Let me know what you think

Hi, I'm new to the Crypto Community, How do I Purchase Ripple?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 09:31 PM PST

Story short, I'm a 15-year-old with a net worth of 500cad, want to invest in ripple as it seems the most reliable out of all the cryptocurrencies on the market. Bonus, it's an affordable penny stock.

Where do I start? I've heard things about wallets, apps, and all that other jazz? How do I purchase it, and how do I keep it safe?

I'm greedy and here to make money on xrp. Where is Ripple's seemingly absent marketing team? Why is ripple never talked about in major newspapers? Where are the promotions? It is now or never to gain a foothold or companies build their own blockchains.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 09:12 PM PST

The marketing seriously sucks at ripple

Transfer from BTCMarkets.net to Ledger Nano S disappeared?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 10:03 PM PST

I recently bought 3,000 units of XRP on my new BTCMarkets.net account, and immediately transferred them to my Ledger Nano S. I opened the Ripple Wallet app on my comp and typed in the receiving address the app gave me into the transfer form at BTCMarkets.net (I double-checked twice for typos first).

Almost 24hours have passed now and still my Ledger/Ripple Wallet app shows "0" balance. When I look at my BTCMarkets.net account, it also shows my XRP balance as "0", however my account equity shows an amount as if I still have the equivalent of what I spent on the XRP/the XRP itself still there.

I thought the transfer of XRP took mere seconds/minutes - is it possible that it can take this long? Or did my XRP just disappear? (I find it disappearing hard to believe due to the technology involved)

While I am not new to information on crypto, I AM new to actually purchasing it from an exchange and transferring it to a cold wallet, so I may just be over-reacting to a not-too-common but understandable delay.

Please tell me that I am over-reacting haha :<

Can I actually send money from RBC to BMO using ripple right now?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 09:49 PM PST

I noticed that RBC and BMO (two of the "big 5" banks in Canada) are listed on ripple's "list of customers" or whatever it is on their homepage... their logos are there at least... underneath something that reads "Growing Global Network".

So I assume that they are using ripple right now?

    Is that true?

And can I actually send money from RBC to BMO using ripple right now?

    If so, how!?

XRP Futures market... The @CMEGroup #bitcoin futures will be settled in cash based on the @CryptoFLtd reference rate, the only other reference rate they have is an $XRP reference rate... Hmm, could XRP be next?

New to ripple... is it normal to have a 5 XRP fee just to send ripple? Seems awfully high

Report from the Federal Reserve on XRP

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 05:21 AM PST

So do Ripple transactions actually use any of the XRP, or is the XRP just to raise initial funds? (confused)

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 07:34 PM PST

Hi guys. Trying to get my head around this so appreciated the help. I've seen a lot of similar summaries by non-beleivers saying stuff like this: "The only reason XRP ever existed was for the purpose of raising funds during Ripple's ICO. In terms of Ripple's usage by financial institutions, XRP is completely unnecessary, as Ripple, much like SWIFT, can transfer funds in original fiat currency. With that being true, and the fact there are simply FAR too many XRP created, with the majority to be distributed as you mentioned, XRP's value can only go in one direction... and it isnt up."

Can someone please explain or link me to an explanation of what the XRP is actually used for in conjuction with the ripple technology? I understand that small amounts of XRP are burned with every transaction. But what's the difference between XRP and Ripple? (Hope that makes sense).

How does ripples gains stack up to other cryptos this year

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 06:31 AM PST

Hey, if you look at the top 10 cryptos at the moment. Ripple has the second biggest year to date (jan 1st to today) gain in the top 10 of 3803% but it is the only crypto in the top 10 to actually have lost ever since mid year being that it is down 24*% from jun1st to now.

ETH is the biggest gainer of year to date = 5,521%

And BTC (bitcoin) is actually the biggest gainer from mid year to now in the top 10 = 457%.

So to put it into perspective if you put 100 $ into xrp on jan 1 2017 and kept it till today you would have 3,803$. And you would be a happy panda.

But if you put 100$ in june 1st 2017 and kept it until today you'd have 76$ and be hoping xrp gets the same start it had this year, the upcoming year.

The spread, me and my toasty Nano S

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 09:02 PM PST

    Hi Guys,

To start getting used to xrp for daily life. I'm going to start giving people XRP. Birthdays, xmas, bets, IOUs you name it'll be requesting the XRP over fiat, even ask why shops aren't taking it.

I need a little help refining the process.

The way I plan to do this is to have most of my XRP on my Nano S (like a USB wallet that is very safe). I'll keep the 24 words (which give you access to the wallet and money if you lose it!) somewhere safe - maybe encoded into a story in a diary, or under my grandmas rocking chair cushion.

I'll have a Toast Wallet on my phone to make the transactions. And top it up from my Nano S (USB wallet).

I'll need to get the people I'm sending to make a Toast wallet and all I do is scan the QR code. I'll also get them to send the cash back and forth another time to show them the cheapness and speed. Furthermore, I'll advise them on an exchange [suggestions*] and the Nano S. That way they know where to buy, sell and get more.

My main concerns are the following: -How I top up the toast wallet if I am not with my macbook, or don't have wifi [impossible? Can I use a smartphone?] -Also communicating the importance of the wallet phrases [any tricks to get these words away and safe for the realisticly nontech savy?] -Can a Toast Wallet be recovered if the phone is lost? -Can a Toast Wallet be accessed from the Web?

Thanks in advance! My Nano S is in the post and playing around with Toast wallet today :)

Kraken SUCKS - advice on new exchange

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 11:10 AM PST

I'm not a sophisticated trader or investor, but I had wanted to get some Ripple and made my purchase through Kraken. WOW its terrible. Orders constantly failing and numbers on the site never match the chart. Just awful.

Anyway, looking for an exchange, preferably without extensively high fees for US bank transfers.

Also using this post to emphasize how badly I want xrp on Coinbase...

    THANKS!

Impacts of XRP adoption on share price...

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 01:21 AM PST

    Just some thoughts here.

By moving to XRP payment solutions, the working capital cycle of any organisation will be cut down significantly. Traditional B2B payments to the tune of tens of millions of dollars typically take 5-6 days (sometimes even weeks). I have a background in blue chip finance, and at any one time we would have upwards of €20 million sitting in clearing houses.

By eliminating this, it frees up huge amounts of cash for more transactions, investments or just earning interest. This improves cash flow, which can only ever be a good thing in an investors eyes.

I'm going to start tracking the share price of companies who adopt XRP or other Blockchain solutions and see if their announcement of adoption bumps share price. Will report back!

    Anyone have thoughts on this?

There is so many good news about Ripple

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 05:24 AM PST

Why hasn't any of it relfected in the price of the coin? I have been looking at other coins and ripple seems to be the one with the most talked about (other than bitcoins) and how large institutions are all using it's new tech, so why is the price not moving? In some cases it dropped too?
