@SatoshiLite: OpenBazaar is the marketplace integration I was hinting at. We are excited to be working with the @openbazaar team on adding Litecoin!

@TheRealXinxi: Most of you may not know. Charlie actually donated millions of dollars to the Litecoin development recently.

Newbie in sub, oldtimer in LTC.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 05:29 AM PST

Hi all. I bought a bunch of BTC and LTC in 2012 and 2013, mostly because the principles of sound money appeal to the libertarian in me. I put them all in armory paper wallets, which I promptly lost in my filing cabinet!

When I found the BTC wallet in April (stuffed in between old bank statements and utility bills OBVIOUSLY!) I sold most of my BTCs to liberate my family from debt, and was pretty happy with myself until November. Lol. Now I'm a little bit salty!

Still, I kept all my LTC, and I have to say that as the price booms, it piques the public interest more and more, and the dream of a sound money free from government/central bank interference becomes more and more real. Nearly all of my friends have been in touch this month with "I remember you carrying on about this Bitcoin thing years ago, and now it's in the news so I want to actually listen to you now" type conversations.

Anyway, I'd like to say to the people upset with Charlie, most kindly, I understand why you're upset. That said, remember that this is a long game, and a revolutionary game at that, and we're only at the very beginning. LTC and other cryptos will change the financial world, and it's really about freedom and independence, not making huge profits (although you will if you just hodl, even if it's just because the fiats collapse). Don't worry too much about the price. I truly believe and have always believed that by 2030, BTC and LTC will be so valuable that it won't matter if you bought at $10 or at $10000! Worry more about the development of the technology, and do what you can to support it.

And smile! Average Joe is just cluing on now, and trying to figure out what a wallet is. There's an insane road of growth, failures, new applications, and government crackdowns ahead. It will be beautiful, it will be ugly, but at the end, we'll be free!

DeepWeb News: Cannabis Growers & Merchants Co-op (CGMC) now accepts LITECOIN

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 10:40 AM PST

This is big news, I'm a long-time lurker on the deepweb (how I found out about bitcoin long ago) - people are now demanding litecoin (also monero for obvious reasons, bcash is getting downvoted to hell on these markets lol).

This is big news, obviously bitcoin became what it is today due to people actually using it as CURRENCY - Litecoin is taking over that department now!

    What happened to this sub?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 01:23 AM PST

Now I've only been hanging around here since July, but have been holding since December 16.

This sub used to be a great source of insight and there used to be a great feeling of community.

Now it just seems full of people who are panicking about losing some cash at a dip, or moaning about Charlie Lee selling.

Charlie Lee selling was a great thing, it means that LTC will become less volatile in the future and will not be dependant in Charlie posting a tweet to pump the price.

The dip is essential, the markets are cyclical.

If you are pissed that the price has gone down, here are your options:

    1. Sell and cut your losses
    2. Shut up and hodl [edit] 3. Buy more

Either way stop moaning, you should know that prices go up and down in crypto

You have to accept the lows with the highs.

If LTC was a 10000 yard race we have only hit yard 10.

    🚀

    Litecoin is fine, relax people!

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:06 AM PST

I've only recently started investing in Litecoin. I started out investing in Bitcoin and after lots of reading and educating myself more on crypto, I decided to switch over to Litecoin. I started buying small amounts about a week ago, only buying when there were dips. I still don't have a ton invested just yet, but I can't seem to understand why everyone is freaking out so much about the dips. I mean, I get it. Some people bought in at much higher prices. But this is supposed to be a long-term investment.

Again, I'm no expert and I have plenty to learn still about crypto, but my noob advice would be to buy the dip and relax. All the other crypto-currencies are experiencing losses. It isn't just Litecoin. And as for Charlie Lee.... who gives a crap if he sold or not. I personally believe it's even better for Litecoin, but to each their own.

I started frequenting this sub around the same time I started investing and it's amazing how quickly everyone has seemed to abandon Litecoin.

    It will get better!

Couldn’t afford a litecoin wallet so I made one

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 08:11 PM PST

@TheRealXinxi: Here is the logic to refute the bullshit about Charlie’s selling LTC. He has a lot of information now, upon the release of which the price of LTC will probably be much higher than $300. He dumped coins right before a bull run to avoid conflict of interest. That’s selfless.

Investing vs. Day Trading - Tax Implications

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 07:53 AM PST

Just starting to compile all my trades to wrap up this fantastic year for 2017 US tax return. I wanted to share some things I learned along the way.

Note, this is my first year trading crypto, so further insightful inputs/discussions on US tax reporting from "veterans" are welcome.

Use websites like CoinTracking.info / bitcoin.tax to import your trade CSVs. These are free for a few hundred (200 for CT) transactions. You can even link API to your favorite exchanges like GDAX and Binance, and let the site take care of compiling all the transactions. It will generate sheets summarizing short/long-term gain/loss, etc. and more importantly generate a necessary tax document for you.

Now, you may have heard, "like-kind exchanges" DOES NOT apply to crypto-crypto trading. For example, selling BTC to buy ETH indeed triggers a taxable event. You CANNOT assume that you don't have to report taxes until you cash everything out in fiat USD. You can read up on this on IRS.gov and elsewhere.

Here's where things get interesting. This may seem OBVIOUS, but this is IMPORTANT to all the newcomers in this field.

    • If you are a winning day trader, tax implications can be huge. Say, you bought BTC at $5000USD, and when BTC was at $17000USD, you sold BTC to buy ETH (direct BTC-ETH). You may have to pay tax on that $12000 USD gain. Remember, short-term/long-term capital gains apply here. If you have a ton of these winning transactions, this could turn into a shitshow. If you are a losing day trader? Read the point below.

    • If you are a HODLER/investor (turns out that I am), the tax burden is much less, until you start cashing out. For example, there were some shitcoins that I wanted to buy and HODL for a few years. To buy those shitcoins, I purchased BTC (or ETH) from GDAX using fiat, immediately transferred BTC to Binance, and bought shitcoins of my choice. Some BTC value went up, some went down, during those transaction times, but on average it's 0. I never sat on my transferred BTCs for days to trade. Because I knew I was in for a long-term HODL, my plan was to buy and forget. My capital gains in 2017 is like -$10USD equivalent. Obviously, and again, the values of those shitcoins has been rising to the moon, but until I sell them, I won't have to pay taxes. Oh, and if you are losing day trader, you may as well do this since you suck at day trading.

Knowing this, I will likely remain an investor, and not an active day trader.

Any inputs, corrections, suggestions, and questions are welcome.

To a happy and profitable 2018 all my crypto friends!

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:34 AM PST

Would like your opinion regarding LTC’s future, especially branding wise.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 09:45 AM PST

Alright, I'm a hodler of LTC but I want your opinion on this regarding its future.

LTC is a good sollid coin with almost no flaws. However I'm afraid that LTC will suffer from the fact that it doesn't really have a specific USP that will keep the people with it longterm. Right now the volume is high because a lot of people use it as a way to dive in the Alt market. I'd like to see LTC and Charlie market their way into one specific component of the Cryptomarket, otherwise I'm afraid it will lose its place eventually when each coin finds their own purpose. If its payments then this is the time to really tell people why LTC is a better option then the other payment coins out there.

It sounds weird but I think LTC might be that guy on the team that the coach loves and can play everywhere. But when the whole team is fit and in form it will sit on the bench..

    What you think...

    Ghosted by Litevault

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 03:45 AM PST

I registered for litevault several months ago when 2 factor authentication was not even an option. I still have my wallet id and password but am locked out because of 2fa. Litevault says they can help with these situations but I have emailed them 2x to no avail. I am hoping to regain access as I have a litecoin sitting in there.

I posted this several days ago and nothing came of it because I guess I did not get enough upvotes. Any help getting me noticed by the owner of litevault would be appreciated as he usually responds to any litevault related issues on this subreddit. Thanks!

Lee brother Bobby Lee Chinese Exchange

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:11 AM PST

This is an old article but might give insight for what's to come. Bobby Lee is Charlie's brother and is head of Chinese Exchange. He was also a VP for Walmart. Amazon is looking into Crypto and trying develop their own coin, but what if Walmart trying beat Amazon to the punch adopts a coin for their transactions and speed up the online orders to counter Amazon. What if any could this mean for Litecoin.

The Double Spend Problem—How is this possible?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:05 AM PST

I've held litecoin for awhile. Happy with the results. Recently, I got swept up into altcoin mania against my better judgement but in the name of diversification.

To get to some of these exotic coins, I had to—for the first time—really transfer coins around. Obviously I learned pretty quickly that litecoin is very good for this. But also learned bitcoin is the default currency for trading anything to anything.

Here's the problem: I sent 5LTC from one exchange to another and....and....and it arrived twice. It made two deposits of the same amount. I have a moral obligation to correct that but not without some compensation for my time which is itself very valuable.

My question: how in the world is this even possible?

The only clue is that when I first tried to move my ltc, I click the send button and nothing happens...tried a different browser, no change. I look at my account profile and a few of the verification fields are blank so I fill those out thinking maybe necessary but same situation arose. It's like when I click send nothing is happening —no visual cues, ie progress bar or indicator message. Like a dumb ass app written in 1996.

So finally I decide to just click the send button and wait...a few minutes later, a little pop up confirms the transaction is underway.

Somehow clicking send and not waiting resulted in the same transaction going through twice even though I should have had a zero balance when the second transaction occurred. Does the exchange in question have a bug? But more importantly are they implementing the litecoin protocol in an unauthorized or illegitimate manner? I thought Satoshi's original point of departure was to eliminate exactly what happened to me, ie double spend. What in tarnation is going on here?

Please be gentle as I'm still learning. ...trying to share my experiences to promote learning.

Adding litecoin donations to my app

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 10:11 AM PST

I was thinking to add a ltc address to donate in my app. Is it fine if I take a brand new address to receive from my electrum-ltc Wallet and I put it in the app for privacy? (i mean brand new address of my private already existing wallet)

Also: How can I be notified everytime I get a new donation? If there is a nice solution it would be nice. Otherwise I don't know if there are some api to send an email everytime that address gets a donation

Attempted to set up a full node, will someone double check my work?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:36 AM PST

Hello, I want to support litecoin but I'm not really in a position where it would be responsible for me to invest significant $'s into it.

I read that setting up a full node is very helpful to the network and so I decided to do just that but I'm not sure if I have the settings set properly.

If there is anyone well versed in this area would you kindly review the settings I have set?

    Options>Main

    Options>Wallet

    Options>Network

    Options>Display

Also, would you suggest I click "Encrypt Wallet"? There are no coins in it if that makes any difference.

    Appreciate yall.

Why would Coinbase be intentionally delaying send outs? Are they?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 10:39 AM PST

I've noticed a lot of people complaining about sends of Litecoin and others being delayed from Coinbase, what could they benefit by intentionally delaying transfers OUT?

This gives them a higher supply of coins in-house temporarily, could that be the reason? Are they selling other people's coins to make up for a shortage on their part?

Just looking for brainstorming and thoughts, not looking for anything specific really...
