    Mining software/pool noob question

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 07:44 AM PST

Noob question here. I am just getting started, finally getting a grasp of the hardware part etc. but I am still confused about the software part of cryptomining.

So if I understand it correctly, you basically need 3 things:

    1) Miner sotware (for example Awesominer, Multiminer etc.)

    2) And then we need to connect to certain pool (for example Mining Pool Hub), where you can select which coin and which algo to mine. But there is also the Claymore miner, which is also a software that you need (but different kind of software than for example Awesominer)? Or do I need to always install the Claymore miner if I want to use other miner software like Awesominer? Or is the Claymore just for the Ethereum dual mining? Could anyone clarify this please? Also I know there are the "one click miners" that combine all those things together (like Nicehash, which is now down or Betterhash), but they usually have higher fees and there are less transparent, if I understand it correctly?

    3) And lastly, we need a wallet in the crypto we going to get paid in (not necessarily in the crypto we are mining) and from there we can use coinbase or similar sites to convert crypto to fiat, is that correct?

If anyone could shed some light into this or direct me to some guide that explains this I would be extremely grateful:) so far Ive seen only guides that explains the hardware part, but not the software one

    much appreciated

Other SMOS users: How does smos order the GPUs in the list? Apparently not by which slot they're plugged into.

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 07:22 AM PST

Does smos not order the GPU's based on what slot they're in?

I have a rig of 13, 3 of them are 570's, and the rest are 580s

For OC purposes, I put the 570's in the first 3 slots. However, when looking at the dashboard, there are indeed 3 CC/MC figures that are lower than the rest (the 570's) but they aren't the first 3 in the list! They are all spread around.

Does anyone know how smos orders the GPU's and how I can be sure i'm OC'ing the right card?

    Is this a windows problem?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 06:23 AM PST

    Hi,

    I have the following:

    Asrock h110 pro btc+ 6 Msi rx570 gaming X 4gb 4gb ddr4 ram 120 ssd hd 1300w evga Psu

I can not get this damn rig to run 24 hrs straight.

Awesome miner kicks out every now and then and ethermine will only run 6-15 hours before theres some kind of error.

When the rig restarts sometimes theres a gpu not mining and sitting at 0 mh/s. Not always the same card or same pci slot.

I installed win 10 from usb drive that I directly downloaded from Win site. Its showing test mode bottom right corner of the screen. My taskbaar start menu only works when it wants to so i installed start menu to get it right but the search does not work and some other stuff on the task bar as well. All bios and windows and gpu is up to date. Gpu running max 70°C.

Im really trying to get the rig running 24/7 with a restart weekly.

    High Transaction Fee Avoidance ?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 06:17 AM PST

I have not watched my bitcoin payouts close enough. When zpool, ahashpool, ahashrefinery, or the like, payout to my wallet is part of the payout lost to the bitcoin transaction fee? If not, how do they get away with not paying it? Right now its so high that would be quite a hit to our bottom line.

Second, anyone out there have any methods to avoiding it? Or if it doesn't exist avoiding the fees later on in the process of converting to fiat.

I've been thinking about this myself... -I use Gemini and they take Ethereum.
-Ethereum transaction fee is much much lower than bitcoin. -It seems you can have the pool pay you in any currency they mine. (at least zpool and ahashrefinery)
    -They don't mine Ethereum.
So I'm thinking maybe I pick up Jaxx (the wallet). It has the ability to 'shapeshift' many coins into each other. I then payout from the pool to Jaxx in some coin they accept, 'shapeshift' that coin into Ethereum and then transfer that to Gemini to avoid much of the fees. Sound like that would work?

One thing I don't quite get is the shapeshift fees. It seems if you go from bitcoin to ethereum you pay the ethereum miner fee of .01 (according to website), that is 6 bucks, not the 10 that my wallet (currently blockchain) says shapeshift wants to charge me... considering the bitcion transaction fee is around 20 right now and ethereum is about a dollar that still saves me some money... but geez, there has got to be a better way. bitcoin (as an actual service) is really failing right now...

Do any wallets have the option of paying a lower shapeshift fee if you are willing to wait?

    Thanks!

Non-existant CUDA device '12' specified in -d option

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 03:36 AM PST

I've tried to split my 13 machine into 3 seperate miners using the -d option in CCminer. Problem is that CCminer does not seem to recognize numbers above 9. When i put in -d 10 it just starts GPU 0. If I put in 12 (or 11) the message "Non-existant CUDA device '12(or 11)' specified in -d option."

Any ideas, or is this just a limitation in CCminer? It works perfectly in EWBF.

    Buying an used mining rig

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 02:10 AM PST

My home is already using electrical heating which draws tons of power and I have pretty cheap electricity so I was thinnking of getting a mining rig.

Found this one priced at 2200$. I could negotiate for lower maybe. Seems a fair price to me.

    Motherboard: Asus prime H270 PLUS Procesor : Celeron G3900 RAM : 1x 4BG ddr4 Riser: ver 006C (35 cm) Powersupply : Thermaltake smart 730W 80 PLUS Bronze + Sirtec direct 12 BR II 850W Bronze GPU : 6x Radeon Gigabyte RX 570

Anything I should look for? Any reasons I shouldnt get into mining or shouldnt buy this particular rig?

The owner claims it gets 170+ MH/s in ethereum mining.

LE: The hardware has warranty for another 19 months which means it has been used for only 5 months.

-5C outside but indoor temperature is 28C just because of the mining rigs.

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 09:30 PM PST

It is snowing outside but my house is 28 C just because of the heat generated by mining rigs spread in each room, and I didn't turn on the (gas) heat. Anyone knows if the water pipe will be frozen if I don't turn the gas heat, but only leave the mining rigs running? My house's temperature is around 28C unless I turn the mining rigs off.

Why don't I hit the whattomine numbers

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 01:18 PM PST

So, let me start out by saying I know that whattomine is an estimate. With that being said, why don't I come close to hitting their numbers for my single 1080ti. For example, I was mining Mona for 4 days, I consistently got ~.33mona per day. My hash rate was even above what they have listed. They have it set conservatively at roughly 64MH/sec and I was consistently at least at 68MH/sec.

I was mining on suprnova the entire time. Anyway, anyone have any tips or are their better pools ? Im on MPH now and seeing what I can do there but Im curious if anyone finds whattomine's numbers accurate for them?

    TIA

    Limiting gpu

    Posted: 16 Dec 2017 12:27 AM PST

Hello, so I have no issue mining and I enjoy mining while I sleep and do other activities but the problem is I only have 1 pc and it is the pc that I mine off of. When i start mining everything becomes unbearably slow which is understandable. The thing is I want to sometimes lay down and watch tv before bed while mining overnight but my pc just gets too slow to do anything other than very simple things. I have only 10% cpu usage and 32% memory usage so it is defiantly my gpu. I tried setting the --intensity parameter and now it uses roughly 92-96 but nothing changed, I still can't use my PC. I used to be able to mine on nicehash without any problems, meaning I could watch netflix while mining and still be okay. I didn't even have to turn down any settings...The thing is 1. I mine on linux and 2. I don't trust nicehash and like to mine direct coins. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix my massive lag issue please let me know! I use EWBF

Yes I did turn off hardware acceleration in firefox as well also it is my entire OS that slows down, not just the browser

Anyone use PCI to PCIe adapters?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 03:42 PM PST

    Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has ever used an adapter like this?

I have an older motherboard that I would like to see if I could get mining on.

I understand that there are PCIe splitters aswell. Is that something I should look into instead of the PCI adapter?

New GPU Mining Rig for Ethereum & Sia Problems

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 09:09 PM PST

Hey everyone, new to mining here.

I built a new rig this week, and I was expecting different numbers. I bought 3 Asus Dual RX580s with 4GBs of memory. After setting everything up and got things going, I was only getting 19Mh/s per card stock with Claymores dual miner on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I programmed custom BIOS to each one of them, expecting them to hit at least 28Mh/s per but only got a 2Mh/s bump for each card. One of the cards though would drop down to 15/16 Mh/s after a few minutes so I flashed it back to stock. I tried installing the August 23rd blockchain drivers which would cause Claymore to crash and the August 11th blockchain drivers wouldn't recognize my GPUs.

I'm not sure if im doing something wrong here, any info is appreciated!

GPU 0 Changed settings with Afterburner

GPU 1 with alleged 28Mh/s BIOS

    Anyone mining Bitcoin Gold?

Going from a rig to mining farm

    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 07:58 PM PST

Has anyone just invested or been able to grow into a mining farm or similar? What were the biggest issues? What equipment other than gpus and Mobos(unless you want to talk about it). Large cases or racks,Getting a tax advisor, security if it's in a remote location, useful software, gpu wholesale, odd ball stuff people might forget and etc. Thanks, have fun, hopefully we can have a list from a simple Miner to someone wealthy enough to start a farm.

TLDR; if you could build a mining farm what would you want in it.

EDIT: I'm thinking on the scale of 50 rigs with 6-8 gpus each.
