Is this the correct way to connect a riser?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 06:56 AM PST

I'm thinking about ordering this riser:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0749RXBCL/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm going to throw away the included 6pin to Sata connector and use this power cable instead:

    https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-2-Pack-Molex-Power/dp/B01DV1Z22K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1513694977&sr=8-3&keywords=6pin+pcie+to+molex

Would this be the correct way of doing it? Just want to make sure before I power on a expensive GPU.

ASRock H81 Pro BTC R2.0 / Wiring. Please help.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 03:29 AM PST

I am having a very hard time finding a concrete answer on if you have to use the molex connectors on the board if you are using powered USB risers, or not. Everything i find is just people arguing over it.

I am currently using a Corsair TX750M to power an entire 4x 1060 rig. I have two more 1060s and an ASRock H81 Pro BTC R2.0 on the way. I was planing on replacing the mobo, adding the 2 cards and using an EVGA PSU i have laying around to power the 2 new cards i am adding (And their risers).

All the risers i have on hand are molex. Since i am being told i cannot use the second PSU (EVGA) to power the risers of the new cards (only the 2 6pins on the cards) or the molex connections on the board. I wont have enough connections on the first PSU (Corsair TX750M) for the Molex on the board. I am already going to have to convert 2 SATA to Molex for the last two risers so they can be on the first PSU (Corsair TX750M).

Any tips would be very helpful!

EDIT: hmm according to the pic from the bot i can power the riser and the GPU of the 2 new cards from the 2nd power supply? This is what i planned to do originally but i was told it was dangerous to not have all risers on the same PSU as the MB. Anyways, if i can do that safely, GREAT.. but what about the molex on the board?

EDIT2: Pretty sure its fine to run the board without the molex if you are using powered risers.. So, is it safe to run 2 of the 6 risers and the same 2 GPUs off of the 2nd PSU? OR do all risers need to be on the same PSU as the motherboard? Bot says yes (and recommends).. people say no.. other people say yes.. This shit is really confusing. Every person you talk to gives you a different answer. :/

Stupid question: when can I safely split a cable?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 03:17 AM PST

Hey guys. So I've got a rig where everything has a single cable from one of my two 1000 watt psus.

What I'd like to do is scale. The best way for me to do this is to split the 6 pin I'm running into my 570s so they power both the 570 and the riser.

Obviously I don't know what I'm doing. Is this safe? When can I use two ends out of one cable safely? When shouldn't I? Is splitting a cable even an option, or are you strictly limited by the number of ports?

Sapphire RX580 Pulse 8GB - Rom Backup can't be saved. Size should be 256 kb but varies between 0 and 110 - ATIwinflash

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 04:07 AM PST

I think I got a broken card out of the box. I didn't touch the GPU Bios in any way yet and ATIwinflash can't even save a backup of the Bios.

I successfully flashed 9 RX cards before, so I know a little of what I'm doing. I got the correct software etc.

How can I determine if there is something wrong with my card or if ATIwinflash is broken.

    Screenshots of GPUZ and ATIwinflash:

Does anybody have any suggestions at all, since I didn't find anything on the internet yet the next step would be to return the card. It was a cheaper sale because the package of the card was damaged. I honestly think someone fucked up the Bios and just returned the card and now I'm sitting here with a broken card.

Didn't realize 2 RX580s I bought require both a 6 and 8 pin connector. Not sure if those 2 and the normal 580 will all have room in this PSU for connections.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 06:08 AM PST

I ordered this psu for my rig, a Seasonic 850W full modular, however I did not realize 2 of the GPUs I bought require an extra connection to the PSU.

Will I have room for the riser cards and these three GPUs?

    vega frontier vs vega 64/56

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 05:54 AM PST

anyone mining with a vega frontier. since they are just about the same price as a vega 56/64 (at least in stores right now) i am wondering if it makes more sense to just drop the extra 50 bucks and get the vega frontier, rather than waiting for these 56/64s to come back in stock. if someone out there is mining on one could you post your stats on here.

Reported Hash vs Real Hash Different

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 04:04 AM PST

I was getting 22 Mh/s stock on my RX580 Red Devil 8gb cards for a total of 66 Mh/s. The reported hash vs real hash was very similar, overlapping the majority of the time.

I did a BIOS flash on my cards. Now the reported hash is 30Mh/s per card, a total of 90 Mh/s but the reported hash is 55 Mh/s for all 3. This is lower than I was receiving before. Any ideas?

UNLIMITED POWER - Help me use it :) (Mining)

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 07:33 AM PST

So I have found myself in quite the curious situation. I have at my disposal, all of the ingredients to set up a monster mining rig. A good friend is ready to go all in. Specifically I will have NO OVERHEAD for power consumption (power will be free) My only current bottleneck is the 80kW Diesel Generator(near unlimited money, near unlimited space) that we will be hooking up to. For the sake of discussion lets assume I have unlimited funding and a room that is roughly 12 x 20 (cooled and enclosed).

I need to figure out how to optimize this set up. HELP REDDIT!

What GPU's should I be using if my concerns are high hashing frequency, and the ability to run multiple algorithms?

What is the most future Proof GPU right now?

What would be the best way to link all these GPU and manage them?

What would be the best way to supply power to all of them (PSU's)?

Help me build this monster dream rig.

Single fan 1080 GPU for mining? Bad idea?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 07:23 AM PST

should i be concerned about having only 1 fan on this card? It would be going into a fully open milk-crate rig, but i've always avoid single-fan GPU for mining. Thoughts? Thanks!!!

Is the noise level bearable in a small apartment?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 03:32 AM PST

I am really interested at starting mining, and have a plan for how large the rig would be be. I was planning starting out with 4 gtx 1070ti, and use the earnings until i had atleast 12 cards. But I havent thought about the noise level these rigs produce. It is high? I did not find any good videos on it.

    Remote PC control for rigs?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 05:14 AM PST

Hey, does anyone know of a good (and affordable) solution to remote control your rig? I'm hoping to being able to cut the power, operate the power switch, and maybe detect the power LED and emulate a USB keyboard. Over the internet. Preferably I would also be able to view the screen, but that seems like it would be on a whole other level.

Rig won't start after adding 9th GPU out of 13 GPU Rig

    Posted: 18 Dec 2017 07:22 PM PST

    Hello all,

I'm building a 13 GPU rig using the H110 pro btc+. It currently runs with 2 Nvidia GTX 1070 TI's and 6 GTX 1070's, but once I add the 9th (1070) it won't start. I'm running Ubunto 16.04. After trying to boot for 45 seconds it gives me a black screen saying /dcv/sda2: clean, 273139/6774784 files, 2382739/27088128 blocks.

I was using the Nvidia driver version 384.98 and tried it with the newer 387.34, no luck with either. I have a 120gb SSD hard drive, Intel Celeron G3900, 8GB RAM, and three 1000W gold standard PSU's chained together with add2psu. If anyone has an idea of what's wrong or could point me in the right direction that'd be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Check my build please

    Posted: 19 Dec 2017 03:12 AM PST

Ok so am thinking of putting together a small mining rig and possibly scaling it in a year or so if everything works out well. The build I put together has 2 if the GPUs listed but for some reason PC part picker is only letting me put 1 on the list.

Only think I am really stuck on is the case for the build I have seen a lot of open air cares around but where I live is rather dusty and would prefer to keep it covered. With only two GPUs I think the case I have chosen should be ok for now but wanted to get some more experienced people's opinions.

Anyway here is my build let me know what you think and thanks in advance. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/MrScavenge/saved/gsB7hM

Where to get a pcie to molex adapter?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2017 03:10 PM PST

I have 2 power supplies. Want to avoid using sata to power risers. Each power supply has a free PCIE slot. I want to use each one of those slots to power 2 riser cards. So I need a pcie to molex adapter (since my risers are molex).

These are EVGA 750 watt Gold PSU's. Ones a GQ and the other a G3. Want to make sure I get compatible adapters.

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Titanium fan click noise? Should I return it?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2017 08:56 PM PST

Hi guys, I just received a MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Titanium card. The fan of this card keep making click sound, and the frequency of the click increase as fan speed up. Is this a problem? Should I return it?

All the other GeForce GTX 1070 Ti card (e.g. MSI Gaming) that I already have does not make such noise.

Apartment Ban for mining, which should I put my rigs?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2017 08:50 PM PST

Recently, my apartment routine inspection caught me for operating server in my unit.(though it's pc rigs they would describe it as server). Although there is no terms prohibit Mining or running server in leasing agreement, they told me it's pose to fire hazard t potentially. Therefore they require me to move those rigs elsewhere they also warn me they will monitor my electricity usage to determine if I am running rigs secretly.(I pay for my electricity individually)

I have four rigs and it 32 cards(mix 1060&1070) in total which produce about 4000 watts heat. I am a college student in Minnesota, so I don't have much money get another apt (They probably ban mining as well.

Does anyone know where I can host my rigs? Ps: Public storage certainly not a choice.

FYI: My apt still get 8 more month leases, can't move. I do not consider to sell my rigs unless offering me a good price, because I just brought them and I love my rigs.

Getting only 450 sols/s on 1070 TI (SMos)

    Posted: 18 Dec 2017 08:33 PM PST

As the title says. Running 200 core, 700 mem, 120W on 3 1070TI's and all 3 are averaging about 450 sols/s, while with these OC settings they should at least be getting to 480+. Am I doing something wrong?

    New GPU in old rig.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2017 08:26 PM PST

So I have a old rig that I used to mine BTC with back in 2011:

    Component Name
    CPU AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto Dual-Core 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 80W HDZ555WFGMBOX Desktop Processor - C3 Revision
GPU DIAMOND Radeon HD 5770 DirectX 11 5770PE51G 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
PSU OCZ StealthXStream OCZ700SXS 700W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply
    RAM 2gb DDR2

There are a couple project coming up that I would like to hobby mine. Would I be able to drop a modern card such as 1070 into this rig and start mining again? Is there any components that would cause a bottleneck? The motherboard has 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 and 4 x PCI Express x1 would I be able to utilize all these slots or is there limitations of these old boards.
