Dual RX 580 Hasrate won't match Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:51 AM PST So I recently got into mining, I set up a rig with 2 Asus strix RX580 GPU's and I'm mining ETH using Nanopool. I'm currently getting 26Mh/s on GPU 0 and 20Mh/s on GPU 1. I am using MSI afterburner on both GPU's and I just don't understand why one is so much faster than the other. (Both cards are identical) Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks [link] [comments]
Why do miners chase bleeding edge GPU? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:23 AM PST I used whattomine for Hash and Power consumption numbers for each card. I used cryptocompare/mycryptobuddy to calculate monthly pay and then divided the monthly pay by the initial cost of the card from Amazon and multiplied by 100 to get monthly ROI. *Zcash *
Monero
When I look at the ROI numbers there is no much difference between the new and highly expensive cards and the "old". From my experience when you buy the newest hardware you will get the highest price cut when the next generation is released. When GTX 10X0 will be released the price cut of the GTX 1080 will be greater then the price cut of the GTX 1060 and most of the miners will upgrade their cards / Rigs from time to time, why not avoid the high price card on the day you buy it? Plus when you buy the bleeding edge you will have to work extra hard to Iron out the kinks to get it to the optimum mining level as the early adopter you will pave the way for the rest. RX 580 Mining Rig Setup - need to know stuffs Posted: 27 Dec 2017 05:24 AM PST Hi Everyone, will be getting into the crypto currency hype next year (a week from now!) and wanted to ask a few items from guys here that know what to do in setting up a mining rig (hardware and software side). Will pick up my Sapphire Radeon RX580 next week, i got 6 pieces and for the other components I have yet to receive a quotation. Would anyone here be willing to help on the setup and all? I am excited to start this journey and any help would be appreciated! I am based in Philippines and got the RX580's for around 1920USD as for the other components estimated budget is around 800USD. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Is there a current with a complete $1500-1600 build guide? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:44 AM PST I've been browsing these forums for a thorough guide a small build in the $1500-1600 range. I want to mine as a hobby and have some experience in building PC's, but seems to me there might be some pretty important considerations in terms of MB, PSU, cabling and so on i should be aware of. I'm leaning towards a dual 1080TI build but am wondering what the total costs of components other than the GPU's would cost me and if i would be able to stay within my theoretical max price (or how much i would have to put down). So... Anyone up for throwing out a complete dual 1080TI build with "all included" (cables, cabinet and so on). Preferably with prices from Amazon.co.uk. PS. Yes, i've read the guide, but since its from august i'm wondering if its still current? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:11 AM PST I am thinking about setting up a mining rig, even if it could simply pay for itself it would already be worth it. I see videos like these and other where claims are being made that AMD GPU's are considerably more profitable. Yet when I pull up stats from what is being mined on nicehash I see nvidia cards pulling way ahead on the profit: https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/amd-rx-580-8gb?e=0.1¤cy=EUR vs https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/nvidia-gtx-1070?e=0.1¤cy=EUR I personally don't care about eletricity costs since it is free. What I am wondering is how nicehash got these stats. [link] [comments]
Just a fire safety check please! Any thoughts appreciated! Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:09 AM PST I know this has been done to death, I'm sorry. I have read conflicting opinions and just want to get some thoughts. 6 gpu rig with 2 ASUS 1070s and 4 ASUS 1070tis. Running on 2 Corsair 750w PSUs. Now the question is 3 part.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. This rig has been running 2 weeks, all cable cool to touch, no smoke at this time lol. [link] [comments]
Everyone said undervolting won't hurt the gpu, I guess everyone was wrong :( Posted: 27 Dec 2017 06:49 AM PST Hardware: Asus Expedition Rx 570 O4G Modded - copied 1500 straps to all above. On latest Windows 10, downloaded today and updated. Was on adrenaline but have also tried blockchain drivers to no avail. PSU is a seasonic Eco 600 Watt while my total system draw is less than 200 W and it never gets hot. No other GPU installed. CPU is Xeon x5460 (stock speeds) Mobo is Gigabyte GA - G31M ES2L v 2.x 2x 2gb Kingston ram. (Stock speeds) I was able to underclock the card to an impressive 1120 MHz and overclock memory to 2000 MHz at a measly 790 and 812 mV respectively. This did result in lower PC consumption as checked by watt meter. It dual mined Ethereum for over 24 hours at ~28.2 Mh/s with siacoin at ~490 h/s. The total GPU power draw was 103 W and the temps were around 66 C. Today when I was using the pc, what ever I would start would just crash, I though the gpu was at the edge of it's undervolt, so I stopped mining, reset the settings to normal and used my pc, I noticed the fans were still spinning quite loudly and when I opened the case to check the temps by hand (GPUz showed 50 C), the heatsink almost burned me. I shut down the pc and wait for it to cool. I restarted after a few minuted when it was cool and now it keeps getting super hot even at idle, gpuz still shows low temps (~35 C) but the heatsink gets way too hot. Also, any apps that use hardware acceleration are hanging now and I had to turn HW acceleration off to use Firefox. I have reflashed the stock bio, DDU'd the drivers, reinstalled Win 10 when nothing worked and it's still the same. I just wanted to put this out there in case some one can help or atleast so people can know that undervolting can dmg the gpu, unlike what I read all over the net. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Dec 2017 06:40 AM PST I cant get any monitor output through a riser, i'm having to use a x16 ribbon cable to get monitor output (my onboards graphics wont work). Is there a riser which allows monitor output also? so i can have all 8 cards neatly in a rack instead of zip-tied to my case (for PCIE slot access) [link] [comments]
Can I power 1070ti (1x 8pin) and a pcie riser (6pin connector) with the same cable? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 02:46 AM PST PSU Im going to use is EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 P2, 80+ PLATINUM 1600W. It has 9x VGA connectors (I will be connecting 8x 1070ti) so I can use the last vga and split it to power up 2 pcie risers but the problem is how to power the rest 6 pcie risers? All 9 vga cables have both 8pin + 6pin connector. If I could use 8pin for gpu and the 6pin for pcie riser that would solve it.. just not sure if that is a good idea.. to use one vga cable to power both gpu and riser. There is also 2 cables with molex connectors and 3 cables with sata connectors which can all be connected at the same time... + 2x CPU cables. If 1 vga cable to pover both gpu and risers is not a good idea what would be the best combination how to power all remaining 6 risers? Can I power the 3 pcie riser with 1 molex cable and the other 3 with other molex cable? Or is that too much as well? Also is there any way how to reuse the 1 cpu cable? [link] [comments]

One fan blade snapped off. Should I snap off the opposing blade to balance? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:59 AM PST Title speaks for itself, and i'm not finding any information on such an odd occurrence. Doing some re-arranging on a rig, when a small fragment of plastic fell to the rig below it, somehow landing perfectly inside the fan. Before I could kill the power, I heard the fan throw the fragment out. All is good, not quite. Upon inspection I found that a single blade has been snapped off. The fan spins fine and without much vibration, but it goes without saying that over time with 24/7 use the motor is going to be overstressed. I'm hesitant to just snap off the opposing blade for balance, and hoping for someone here to give me their experience or post a Shia Lebouf meme of "just do it". Thanks for reading. Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:29 AM PST Hey im using miningpoolhub but im not sure about the profits on a single 1070, im looking into awesome miner but i still want to mine/auto exchange to Zencash like in miningpoolhub is this possible? [link] [comments]
Should the NiceHash unpaid balance in BTC go down with no withdrawals? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:13 AM PST Yesterday morning it was at .00625061 BTC (around $100 USD) at around 10 AM. 4 hours later, it was at 0.00528347 BTC ($83.21). A few hours later it was back to expected. My post in /r/NiceHash was suspiciously suppressed with no answer, so figured I'd ask here. [link] [comments]
Mining as a Business - Tax Options Posted: 26 Dec 2017 02:28 PM PST I've been mining pretty steadily all year now, and am now expanding into additional rigs from some of the profits I've made. I'm trying to understand my options when it comes to withdrawing from my trading/mining earnings and investing some (or all) of the money withdrawn into additional mining hardware. I live in the US, and I will be in the 28% tax bracket next year. I understand that I can claim deductions on some of my earnings if I itemize, and label my mining efforts as a business. Can this be done even if I don't have a formal LLC registered? With the tax changes coming around for 2018, can I leverage the new pass-through deduction changes to claim my mining hardware as capital reinvested into my business? Given that I typically get taxed 28%, and I believe the max for passthrough deductions is 25%, if I remove my earnings as "Short Term Capital Gain" and it gets taxed along with my income at 28%, can the passthrough deduction effectively bring me down to a 3% tax on my earnings if I reinvest them all into my business? Do I need to have an LLC for that? Does the LLC need to be around before I purchase additional hardware? I really just need some guidance here, I don't even know who the right kind of person to talk to is... Tax Lawyer, CPA? [link] [comments]
Is it possible to get correct information on how to power a rig properly? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 03:37 PM PST I don't think it is. It is beyond frustrating lol. Every single person you ask, every single video you watch, every single forum post you read, everybody says something different. Say i had a few 1060 rigs set up similarly. One example .. 6 EVGA SC 6GB 1060s (Single fan) and 2 power supplys. One PSU is a Corsair TX750M (2017 version) and the other is a 400w EVGA I had laying around. Yes, i am planning on replacing it. I pay the equivalent of 6 cents USD per k/h so i haven't really cared. Corsair TX750M is powering the MB/CPU/HDD Corsair TX750M has 2 PCIE cables with a total of 4 6/8 pins - Each lead powering 2 cards Corsair TX750M has 2 molex leads - Each lead powering 2 molex risers 400w has 1 PCIE cable with a total of 2 6/8 pins - Powering 2 cards 400w has 1 molex lead - powering 2 molex risers Now, at the time the majority of what i read and every person i asked said this was OK. The more i read now, the more paranoid i get that i'm gonna burn down my apartment when i'm not here. So, is it safe, or not? I mean i have seen people powering 6 1060s with one 750w. Using 2 SATA (using SATA to 6pin adapters) risers per chain! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ61StmW8R8 If not, since i might as well buy a new PSU to replace the EVGA (boxing week deals!), what would be the ideal way to do this without spending a lot? ELI5 even. lol P.S. I don't want to get into powering the GPU risers with the same PSU as the motherboard or not. Been there done that every body has a different opinion. I made my choice. :P EDIT I am in Canada [link] [comments]
Cheap open air case for at least 4 GPU Posted: 26 Dec 2017 09:33 PM PST Hey guys, anyone have any suggestions for an open air rack for at least 2 GPU's. I live in the great white north so heat is never an issue, so I don't need anything fancy. Just something to start holing cards on. Everything I see on Amazon and EBay is a lot more expensive than I though so idk if I am typing something in wrong. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Remote management of mining rig Posted: 26 Dec 2017 04:19 PM PST I'm thinking about making a mining rig in another country. I moved to the UK a few years ago, but electricity costs here are about 3 times higher (literally). I'm asking for some advice from more experienced miners. How often does your mining rig give you problems you wouldn't be able to resolve remotely? If I have people (My parents) who are able to restart the rig, when needed, will be enough to run a mining rig 24/7 for months? Is having the rig in a different country a wise idea at all? I don't want to ever have to fly back just to fix the mining rig (Unless hardware fails, that's unavoidable). The obvious ways of remote management are, of course, TeamViewer / SSH and similar, but is this going to be enough? Also, will it be possible to remotely reboot the machine, even if the OS freezes and my parents happen to not be home? A potential solution would be a Smart Plug, which can be connected to Wifi, but not sure if those will handle the high wattage my rig would be pulling. Any alternatives or advice would be highly appreciated. It would also be very helpful, if you could simply give me a good idea of how often you have problems you need to solve with your mining rig. P.S. In case you are wondering how much I will save in electricity - For a 1000W mining rig, I'll save about $2.64 per day or $79.20 per month, just by leaving my rig in my home country. Thanks [link] [comments]
Multiple wallet addresses when mining Posted: 27 Dec 2017 12:49 AM PST Hi guys, me and my relatives are building our first mining rig. We are splitting costs and would like to know if it is possibile to add more than one wallet to get incomes. Thanks for help [link] [comments]
AMD vs. Nvidia ROI Am I missing something? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 07:55 PM PST So I currently have a small rig (4x1080TI). I want to expand and so I was running some numbers. If I expand to say 16x1080TI I'd be looking at ~$11,500 and be generating ~$95 a day. To get to ~$100 I'd be looking at 32 RX580's($8320). This setup seems to generate a little more than the nvidia 16 card setup. So basically I need double the RX580's to get the same income as the 1080TI's. However, the AMD setup comes out $3k cheaper. This will of course be offset by needing additional computer parts in order to make it all work so the NVIDIA setup if definitely better if you want the densest setup and who knows about resale value, Im assuming naturally that the 1080TI's would hold their value better. The other big unknown is the power pull from the RX580s. I have never ran one so I don't know how they operate, does anyone have any comments on their power consumption compared to the 1080TI's? I guess Im looking from the best ROI standpoint taking power into account, whats everyone's thoughts? [link] [comments]
RX 580 Power Limit and Bios Voltage questions. . . Posted: 26 Dec 2017 07:32 PM PST Done my requisite search and can't find any answers so here we gooooo. . . Part 1: currently running 2x RX580 using MSI Afterburner. I have no problem setting clocks and undervolting using the core voltage slider. Yet when I try to use the Power Limit instead, it does absolutly nothing. Does anyone know if this is normal, does power limit not work with 580s like nVidias do? They are at 925-950v atm, but I know I can undervolt them more. Part 2: I've scoured for information about entering set voltages into my bios mods, like you can do with core+memory clocks. Some say you shouldn't mess with them, but I've seen a vid or guide here and there that some actually can be altered but i cant find them anymore. Would like any feedback from someone who has altered the voltages in bios, or if its something I need to leave alone. The idea of having set clocks and voltages in case mining\overclock\driver crashes is appealing to me. Thanks for any help, and keep grinding! [link] [comments]
Does nicehash use more electricity than mining without it? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:00 PM PST I've been using different profit calculators and when I use Nicehash vs most others it shows my electric cost at .22/kWh at around $.90 a day for a 1060(varying slightly for different coin) and whattomine.com has it closer to $.65. Would using nicehash really really up my electric cost by that much or is one just more accurate than the other? $.25 a day wouldn't matter if I wasn't wanting to buy 12 lol. [link] [comments]
Power GTX 1060 from PERF PSU power port? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 10:57 PM PST I am currently running 6 GTX 1060s and would like to add 7 more to my mining rig as I have the ASRock H110 Pro motherboard to fill it up. My current power supply is EVGA 1000 watt P2 Power supply. If I get another of the same power supply, can I run PCI-E power cables from the PERF ports to power the 7th GTX1060 and riser? The GTX 1060s i'm running only have one 6pin power port on them. Plan would be to use the other PERF port to power the riser also with a PCI-E 6 pin power. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
