Financial Modeling for Cryptocurrencies: The spreadsheet that got me my first 1,000% gain Posted: 15 Dec 2017 08:18 AM PST TL;DR: I created a spreadsheet that automates pulling trending cryptocurrencies, recent tweets, and bullish/bearish sentiment into Google Sheets. You can find it here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QtxaDWCoXkIqjPVVkU8DNsx8GBaBd180COwn1CIasa8/copy I know some crypto users prefer to work in spreadsheets (including myself) so I created a spreadsheet that looks at trending symbols and estimates bullish/bearish sentiment. I never had the time to develop software engineering skills, but the recent launch of a few add-ins has allowed regular joes like myself to harness the power of APIs. The Beauty of Sentiment TradingAccording to Google Trends, the word "sentiment analysis" has been gaining steady traction over the past 5 years. Sentiment refers to the attitude expressed by an individual regarding a certain topic. This is especially relevant in trading, where so much of the change in price is dictated by emotions: When it is applied to trading, sentiment can be used (with great potential windfall) as a directional signal to figure out whether you should enter a crypto position within your portfolio. A way you can utilize sentiment when trading crypto, is to measure the positivity or negativity of a tweet. If recent tweets have been overwhelmingly bullish (aka, the person expects the crypto rise) and movement is beginning to happen in the currency, chances are good that the trend will continue. Luckily for you, StockTwits already does this with around 225 different cryptocurrencies. And if you can combine the sentiment with trending cryptocurrencies, you can catch the wave right as it forms. Services Used:
What it pulls:
AN OVERVIEW OF THE SECTIONSHow to use the spreadsheet to spot trending cryptocurrenciesYou will spend most of your time in the "Analysis" tab, where the trending cryptocurrencies reside. I am almost always looking at the "By Hour" timeframe, as the "By Day" and "By Week" is usually a missed opportunity…however, those time frames can still be very useful (albeit, for different reasons). You want to ride the wave on a cryptocurrency under one or both of the following conditions:
Getting the spreadsheet to work for you1. Install the Spreadstreet add-in for Google Sheets
2. Get sheet ready for use with the add-in
3. After logging into the add-in, refresh the sheet
Troubleshooting
Some trending coins are not pulling correctly…what's going on? StockTwits has a list of ~225 coins it currently supports. See the "TweetInfo" tab for the full list. I have tried logging in, activating the template with "Use in this document" and refreshed the sheet…still nothing. Head to the "Data" tab. Delete the formula in cell A1, and repaste the following: =SS("tickers-coinmarketcap", headers, "0", Currency) Hoping this is something that is useful to everyone, and I am more than happy to help peeps setup the sheet so they can use it. Just send me a message on here. I built an app that ranks coins based on the growth of their communities (X-Post /r/CryptoCurrency) Posted: 15 Dec 2017 09:59 AM PST Hi /r/crytpomarkets, I wanted to share a personal project that I figured some of you guys might be interested in. I have noticed in the 9 months (the most meme and stress filled of my life) of closely following the crypto markets, that one of the biggest factors in determining the future success of a coin, coming after only its technology, is the community surrounding it (see /r/NEO). This isn't always the best thing because fundamentals and the technology sometimes get ignored but its a fact of the market right now.
A community that can dispel all the FUD surrounding its coin, explain to the lay man the value and use case of the coin, or hype upcoming news without going overboard ( don't see /r/NEO ;) ) is incredibly valuable to adding to the confidence of potential buyers. This is what inspired me to make Coinmunity.
Coinmunity is an app where you can easily stay on top of which coins are currently experiencing the most growth in their communities (reddit and twitter) and how it relates to their prices over time. In crypto, where hype plays such a huge role in the price, buying the rumor and selling the news is super important (even tho its so damn hard to ignore the FOMO). Coinmunity aggregates all the top posts from each coin's subreddit so you can keep track of which coins have big upcoming events and learn more about coins you may not have heard of before - all in one place. You can download the iOS app here!
As of right now here are the top 20 coin communties of the day ordered by combined subreddit and twitter growth (Hopefully there will be a few you haven't researched yet):
If you would like to see some screenshots, here's an album.. Anyways, I hope this is ok to post here and that it can help some people pursue their dream of becoming an astronaut. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks! p.s. dont do it!... hodl!!
edit: Features that will be added next:
edit #2: For those android users, I will connect the database to a web app ASAP while I am working on getting an android version up and running. If you would like to be notified about when this is complete email coinmunityapp@gmail.com [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 11:22 AM PST Hello everyone! Im looking for vloggers/youtubers who know their sh!t about the cryptoworld. (Like Luke Quickfingers for example who was a penny stock trader for years prior to this.) Not just from a trader's prespective though. It could be coders, researchers, traders or chicken farmers, i couldn't care less, as long as they know what they talk about! PS The only person i found that is worth mentioning is the guy i mentioned before. The rest i've found are mostly 15 year old children. [link] [comments]
Tron looking like it's still on the up and up Posted: 15 Dec 2017 05:17 PM PST Anybody been watching TRON (TRX) lately? It's on the up again (about 20%) after already soaring up 80% the other day. Here's the chart. It looks like a really interesting project, here are some things that stood out to me:
My Concerns:
What do you guys think, is it worth investing in? All things considered I'm putting some stake into this coin, the founder definitely has some experience in this field. Plus the connections and infrastructure are undeniable to me, especially at this early stage. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 05:45 PM PST I just finished up a project on Bitcoin for a math class and loved it. Thought I'd try to learn a bit more about cryptocurrencies, blockchain, etc over the break and try to position myself to eventually land a job in this sector. Do you have any tips on where I could start? My background is in data/product performance analysis (undergrad was in statistics). [link] [comments]

What are peoples thoughts on the biggest winners and losers of the upcoming weekend? Posted: 15 Dec 2017 12:52 PM PST I predict another surge for ETH and LTC. They have been holding steady and the market is settling (by cyrto standards). And I think the GDAX lift on the BTC cap will have a drip down effect. [link] [comments]

What information to record for tax purposes when doing coin to coin transfers? Posted: 15 Dec 2017 08:03 PM PST I want to know what type of information I need to record for reporting taxes. I understand that if I just buy LTC with dollars and dont sell the LTC, then I wont have to pay taxes on it. My real concern is using LTC to trade to some other alt coin, like Ripple. If I trade 1 LTC for whatever that buys in Ripple, what information do I need to save? The current amount traded, and the price of LTC, as well as the amount of Ripple obtained and the price of Ripple? Do I also need to report the amount of LTC has earned as profit somehow? Any help will be appreciated. [link] [comments]
Daily Chart - Today's big Gainer Posted: 15 Dec 2017 12:21 PM PST Litecoin went back on track to its rising trail today with prices breaking above $300 once again. LTC/USD markets are now rocking a price increase greater than 10% following a day where LTC experienced losses that caused a breach of the newly reached levels. If the newly found support was to continue, LTC could potentially keep on rising to new all time highs. Chart Source: [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 12:54 PM PST So I want to move my small amount of bitcoin out of an exchange and I see the fees are a lot highjer for BTC than for ETH or LTC. As the title says does it make sense for me to exchange BTC for another crypto and then move it to another exchange and rebuy BTC there since the transfer fees on other currencies are lower? or will this not work? Can anyone better explain futures markets in the terms of ICOs? Posted: 15 Dec 2017 02:47 PM PST I would like to invest in ICON (icx) but the ICO is concluded and the coin has not been released yet. Newbie question on buying my first coins. Posted: 15 Dec 2017 06:15 PM PST Hello, I recently started researching various cryptocurrencies. I currently have coinbase (to purchase bitcoins) and binance (to exchange my bitcoins for other cryptocurrencies). Ive heard that after i purchase bitcoins from coinbase i will have to transfer it to binance and that will end up having large fees (ive heard up to 20% of my bitcoin will be lost). Is that true? Is there any way to go about buying other cryptocurrencies while avoiding this? Or is there an all in one market where I can purchase coins without bitcoins (Im interested in verge and ripple). Thanks! [link] [comments] |
