Give Bitcoin this Christmas. I'll start with 25 Bitcoin... (day 1)

    Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:36 PM PST

For the 25 days up to Christmas I will donate 1 Bitcoin to a good cause suggested by r/bitcoin. It can be a charity, an open source project, a crowdfund or anything else.

When submitting a suggestion it would be great if you could link to a donation page with a Bitcoin donation address if available. This will allow others to find and donate to causes they wish to also.

Each day I'll pick from the suggestions, likely the most upvoted one. I'll ignore any scams. Also I think that it would be best to have 25 individual donations so I will pick a different one each day.

I would like to encourage everyone here to try and donate anything they can too. Either to the same causes I do, others suggested that I didn't donate to, local charities or family and friends in need. Especially if the recent price increase has been good for you.

I will try to send donations as fast as possible but there may be times where I have to do more research or checks to verify the suggestions are legit.

Proof of funds: Message: "Give Bitcoin this Christmas"
    Address: 34WbSyrtibUJiFbRa7ukLC8RGdFMnQRn4b
    Signature: I8vZgsyOb1CKbTjo/Mravp03yIFnC94GNTVYOkBbhIUPUajfKPg4nh8zj7dWu5qzev2nsAtByLwpHHDnVwyAxsI=

Lastly, if you wish to give but don't have the time to check Reddit for the next 25 days you can send Bitcoin to the address above. I will divide the extra Bitcoin sent to that address by 25 and donate it to each of the chosen causes on the 25th or the 26th.

P.S. Please make sure that any donation websites or addresses posted are legit before sending Bitcoin as unfortunately we usually have to deal with a lot of scammers when doing giveaways.

Watch Party - The Big Bang Theory - Accuracy/Predictions/General Discussion

    Posted: 30 Nov 2017 04:44 PM PST

For those who are unfamiliar: The Big Bang Theory has become one of the highest rated comedy television shows recently and tonights episode, "The Bitcoin Entanglement", focuses around the obvious.

We know this show has mixed feelings among this crowd but we expect some potential extra volume coming in from this show airing tonight and would like to keep things in a single thread. The last episode that aired reached over 13 million people.

Their subreddit is having their own discussion on the episode. Go spread the word. There's some misinformation in there right now.

    Show aired* 8PM EST.

Sorting has been defaulted to new so all you have to do is refresh during a scene you want to see others potentially comment on.

22 minutes in, so far almost entirely not Bitcoin related.

Brief mention of mining 7 years ago and potentially being rich.

Lost the laptop and mostly just searching for it.

Sheldon "downloaded the Bitcoin" to a flashdrive on a keychain, that keychain was lost.

Keychain found by shopkeeper who plans on pawning it for $10 (unaware of Bitcoin on it).

The amount of people who don’t know that Coinbase and GDAX are connected is too damn high!

    Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:19 PM PST

People! GDAX is the Coinbase exchange! If you have a coinbase account then by default you have GDAX account. There is an option to send any money from you're USD Wallet on coinbase to the USD Wallet in GDAX, instantly and for free. Once there the fees are substantially lower!

Would be nice if 4-5 of the big exchanges came out and announced they would not use the name Bitcoin in any other forks.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:49 PM PST

It is too easy for customers to get confused.

Bcash is not confusing, Bitcoin Cash IS confusing to new people. Confusing people with a specific goal in mind is sometimes called fraud.

Back in late 2010-early 2011 (I think) I was working at an electronic recycler. My job was diverting hardware that still had some retail value from the scrap heap. The thing is, most of the stuff was old and pretty obsolete, but the resale value was so much higher than scrap that it made sense not to shred it. The warehouse had pallets and pallets of servers and computer towers and laptops that mostly sat and collected dust.

One day, on a forum, I heard about this thing called bitcoin where you could essentially sell your processing power on the internet for money, at least that's how I understood it at the time. I approached my boss with the Idea that we put all these servers to work and get something out of them before they inevitably end up in the shredder. He gave me a blank stare and told me to get out of his office. 6 weeks later I was fired.

Well, I bumped into him this week, and guess what the first thing he asked me about? It was so satisfying telling him how Bitcoin has made me a multi millionaire now. The distress on his face on missing the opportunity of a lifetime was so obvious it gave me a hard on.

In truth I was surprised he remembered about the conversation.

    Stop hating on Coinbase

    Posted: 30 Nov 2017 05:17 AM PST

You guys are too hateful towards Coinbase. Without them and their easy-to-use website/app Bitcoin would never be as popular as it is right now with regular people. Currently it's top 10 on the App Store where I live which is awesome.

Yes, their servers were down yesterday but you can't really blame them. They had 8 times more customers than their last peak time. If you had planned a dinner for 5 people and suddenly 40 hungry people showed up, what would've happened?

Hopefully they're expanding their servers right now and we won't have a problem for awhile.

I see the server problems as a good thing, 8 times more customers than their last peak?! We're going mainstream guys, don't forget to fasten your seatbelt. :)
