Just setup my first BTC Node, here are my experiences

    Posted: 05 Mar 2022 11:36 PM PST

With all that's been happening with the CBs, Russia, and inflation, I wanted to setup a node to strengthen the network security. I'm not entirely done yet, but am now running a synced btc core and the sync took ~36 hours. I don't know the exact time it was done because I was asleep.

I used the guide on Raspibolt. Overall the guide is really good. I learned a lot of side things in the process like putty commands, keys, and about tor. There are some areas where I ran into technical issues when configurating my node, when my circumstances must have been different and I had to back track and re-do some steps. But it was fun. The first half I wrote all commands by hand, the second hand (when we got to longer strings including my keys etc) I started copy pasting. Felt I learned less when copy pasting.

Anyway, the first part (up until syncing started) took me about 2 hours (including connecting the rasp pi, imaging the os etc)

Really happy to be doing this now.

    Gear: Raspberry Pi 4 8GB + Samsung 1TB T7. 1gb/s isp. Location Europe.

Average tech-savy. Not a programmer, scripter, nor it-admin of any kind.

The city of Lugano, Switzerland, will make bitcoin legal tender and allow citizens to pay for public service fees or taxes in bitcoin. The city has already worked with over 200 merchants to propel the adoption of bitcoin and Lightning payments.

    Your first Bitcoin node

    Posted: 06 Mar 2022 01:35 AM PST

I see many posts about a Bitcoin node here, much more since the last time I checked in - good to see.

I've found that the MyNode package is probably the best one for beginners to use.

There's a guide here on how to set it up. Feel free to ask questions.

I have a question: If companies like Tesla or Microsoft are accepting #BTC as payment, or countries and cities are making it legal tender, why would Anyone spend their Bitcoin for a car or software license, or coffee or meals? Especially when its(btc) bound to go up in value…

Providing support for BTCPay (and others) as an entrepreneur

    Posted: 06 Mar 2022 02:00 AM PST

I'm considering different options to get more into the bitcoin space. I don't like coding much (I have an IT background but not in coding) and until recently couldn't figure out anything else. Seems like 90% of btc talk is about coding or custody services which makes sense but doesn't help ne.

I hit on the idea of helping local businesses install, use and support BTCPay. Seems fairly straightforward from an IT perspective and I am very familiar with providing IT support to large orgs just not small ones. Does this seem as straightforward as I am thinking? Any major flaws someone could point out?

I'm aware there are other options for businesses but I thought to start simple and go from there.

Run Bitcoin Core 22.0 on Termux (Android)

    Posted: 05 Mar 2022 07:13 PM PST

Decentralization gets us even further with what I figured out.

Install F-Droid.apk and verify with GPG && install F-Droid.

Update F-Droid repository and search for Termux.

Install Termux. Open termux and type setup-termux-storage

    Grant Termux access to storage.

    Do the following commands:

    pkg install update

    pkg install upgrade

    pkg install bitcoin

    cd

Optional: if you want to copy your bitcoin folder from your pruned bitcoin (I have 2200mb prune) server or computer and prune it, fine (location: cd .bitcoin)

    bitcoind -prune=2200

Recommended: On Termux notification on Android, enable

acquire wakelock and disable battery optimisation for Termux. Also, in router virtual server/port forwarding, Enable TCP port 8333 to 8333 for yur phone's ip address.
