Posted: 22 Jan 2022 02:34 AM PST Hello, i am currently mining with 3x 1660 ti i am ready to buy my next card. Which one would you think i should buy in the current market ? Please tell me your opinions keep in mind i have free electricity for the next 4 years, i leave in a student dorm [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Jan 2022 02:34 AM PST I need an opinion on my Zotac 3090 cards. One performs way better (about 10%) in hash rate than the other, and I simply can't get the slower one to budge after days of fiddling with Afterburner. It's the laziest 3090 I've ever had to deal with! I suspect it's a bios version problem: 1) Faster card: Zotac GAMING GeForce RTX 3090 Arcticstorm running bios 94.02.42.80.ce vs 2) Slower card: ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity OC running bios 94.02.42.80.9f Whatever OC settings I play with on the RTX Trinity OC I just hit a ceiling in terms of hash rate performance. The Arcticstorm will sit happily at 121mh/s all day long, with the Trinity OC I'm lucky to hit 110mh/s! Temperatures wise - all fine VRAM at 79/80 and GPU 37, the perf cap reason in GPU-Z is power. The difference is easy to see in Advanced: the Power Limit. Trinity OC's max power limit is 110% vs 120% for the ArcticStorm. The Arcticstorm is running at 120% which is what I think is making the majority of the difference. I think that flashing the OC's bios with the ArcticStorm's will fix this problem. That's the theory at least. As I understand it, the two cards are actually identical? I'm wondering if a) what I'm saying makes sense to more experienced users and b) is my bios flash idea the right course of action. Finally, in terms of using NVflash, can it handle multiple GPUs? I've never flashed a GPU bios before (although I've flashed routers, motherboards, mobile phones - just never used NVflash) - does NVflash give me the option to select which card I'm flashing, or is it better to remove the other cards from the Motherboard? Thanks ever so much! [link] [comments]
Some noob questions about using my existing PC for mining Posted: 22 Jan 2022 02:06 AM PST Hi all, hoping to get some advice on whether my proposed setup would work, or if it will cause problems with my PC, which I use very regularly. Disclaimer, I'm aware it's not the most amazing time to get into GPU mining (ha!), and I'm not too concerned about ROI or profitability, as I wouldn't be spending too much, and mainly just want to acquire some crypto, and also have a bit of fun. I do have solar to offset some of the electricity price. So, I've been researching mining rig setups, and it's pretty expensive to buy everything here in Australia, and I'm not willing to risk that much money at this specific point in time, but it occurred to me I could use my existing PC and just add some extra cards.. PC currently has a Z370 HD3 motherboard, i5-8500, 16GB of RAM, and an RTX 2060 Super (bought 2 years ago for half the price they are now). I was thinking of getting a couple of 1660 Supers to add to it for mining. Would it be feasible to then use all 3 cards for mining whilst still using my PC as a PC? I use it a lot, including for gaming at times. I'm assuming I'd need to set up the main card so I could switch between mining and gaming when needed, but I think for general non-gaming activities it should be fine to mine at the same time? I've had a go mining using NiceHash with my current card, and it works fine, but gets quite hot inside the enclosed case, so I haven't been doing it so as not to put stress on it - but is there any reason I couldn't set my PC up more open-air like a mining rig so the cooling is better? Am I underestimating the heat and noise that would come from it maybe? I was thinking with only 3 cards it wouldn't be too terrible? Would appreciate any advice on whether this would work? Would there be any clashes or issues with software or OS? My PC is dear to my heart, lol, so I would want to be sure it would still be completely functional as a PC if I were to try this. Posted: 22 Jan 2022 12:51 AM PST Hi all So want to upgrade my gtx1070. On fleabay the 3090s are going for £1800 and 3060 ti go for 800 to 900. So near price parity. I am leaning towards the 3090 as it is 33% over its rrp where the 3060 is near triple. I also want to dabble in some AI ML and I do game. I have a x399 so have 4 GPU slots. What would you go for? Posted: 21 Jan 2022 11:39 PM PST This is my personal research before I decided to buy a 3080 for myself. EVGA is the most reviewed 3080 card for mining and there's hardly any good information on other brands. EVGA is most preferred because it has better temps, and widely available in NA market. MSI Suprim X is the top model and some have posted good reviews of the same. Other variants like Trio also perform better. Gigabyte is the most hated one because of the poor memory temps. ASUS cards are okay. TUF series is widely reviewed and has good feedback. Lesser known brands like Inno3D actually have been giving tough competition. I bought iChill x4 (comes with 4 fans) and actually maintains the temps fairly well. You may also want to look into POS-CAPs vs MLCCs of a card as they may have slight impact on performance.
