I'm into Crypto for hookers and cocaine. Happy New Year

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 08:09 AM PST

We're all here in this community of crypto for different reasons mine just happens to be the pleasures of hookers and cocaine.

This world is rough we all know it and I am genuinely into crypto for hookers and cocaine like the title says. Maybe dinner bills too. We only have one life to live we must enjoy it.

Also commenting about hookers and cocaine is hilarious and I often cry from laughing about it. We laugh at what's true.

We must not forget to laugh in this crypto community. Thanks for those laughs.

May all of your bags lighten, may your pocketbooks get heavy and please don't forget to of course enjoy some hookers and cocaine on the side.

    Happy new crypto year

Anyone else saving in Crypto and completely ignoring banks?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 01:11 AM PST

Whenever someone talks about depositing or saving money, most people instantly think about banks for some reason. IMO they are the worst way to save money, not only do they offer interest rates that are terrible and lower than the inflation rate, they're also terrible privacy wise.

Crypto is much much better. I'm getting double digit interest rates, huge annual return due to Crypto's value rising PLUS a hedge against inflation. Moreover, there's no privacy concern and the utility is the same or even more than banks considering Crypto is being accepted more and more as a payment method with better discounts than bank credit cards. Who else does the same?

What’s the most profit you’ve made from a single coin or token?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 06:42 AM PST

Which coin or token was it and how much profit did you make? Was it a memecoin? Was it an airdrop that you forgot about and found years later? How long did you hold it in your portfolio and what made you take profits at the time that you did?

Obviously the folks who have been in for years and years will have a story about buying BTC or ETH at a crazy price. For those people, I'm most interested in what made you take profits at the time that you did? Hopefully it was for something positive and not a case where you needed the money for an emergency. If you didn't need the money, did you just not want to tempt fate any longer and you already had made a 10-15x?

What allowed you to HODL through the dips and crashes and how did you achieve your conviction in the project? Was it blind optimism? Did you actually DYOR and nobody could convince you that you were wrong? Or was it pure luck and you bought on a whim and it rocketed up so fast you just rode the quick wave, took the money and ran?

    Let's hear it folks!!

Some just drained Tinyman of it's goBTC and goETH liquidity pools.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2022 07:54 PM PST

Someone had just found an exploit on Algo's Tinyman liquidity pools for both goBTC and goETH. Some how they figured it out and a bunch of projects have pulled their liquidity out to protect it, Tinycharts for example, which I have stake in.

Hopefully everything recovers and the pools are restored. If not, fuck.

The person made off with almost 1.3 million USD. Here's their algo wallet.

    zkRollups - thoughts for 2022?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 01:01 AM PST

zkRollups: what are your predictions for 2022?

It seems this may well be an area for sustained growth in 2022. It doesn't seem that many zkRollups have tokens yet … it seems to me that Loopring is one of the few. Who else is looking at this area?

Given the rise of p2e gaming, and retail interest in this area, it makes sense that there may well be growth in these kind of scaling solutions at a more sustained rate. No noobs are gonna shell out thousands for gas just to play an 8 bit style game masquerading as a dex … even Defi Kingdoms has a high price entry point (shelling out for heroes) which newbies to the space will shy away from, although of course Harmony's tx fees are of course wayyyyy better than ETH.

    Anyway:

zkSync looks interesting, as does zkSwap as a dex … anyone know much about Polygon Miden?

I have got a bag of LRC as a starting point - shill me your favs and why.

    Cheers and beers 🍻

ALGO Tinyman DEX exploited. remove all your liquidity now.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 03:23 AM PST

Tl;Dr : The ALGO Tinyman DEX has been exploited. For all the ALGOnaughts outs there, pull out all of your liquidity now (until the DEV's can resolve the issue).

I saw this on the Algomeow discord which has been in contact with the Tinyman DEV's.

    ( From Tinyman Discord:)

( 10:28 one of tinies: As many of you are aware an attack occurred on Tinyman Pools on January 1st/2nd. The attack exploits a previously unknown bug in the contract and allows the attacker to withdraw assets from a pool that they are not entitled to. The attack has been executed on multiple pools until now. The financial incentive for the attack varies from pool to pool so not all pools have been attacked.

( As a trustless protocol Tinyman uses immutable contracts. This unfortunately means there is no ability for a quick fix to this problem for the current pools. We will work on a fix for the problem and deploy a new version of the contracts and put a migration plan in place. ( In the meantime we believe the best plan of action is to ask our community to remove all their liquidity from ALL Tinyman pools. ( We will make sure that the community is taken care of and we will publish a detailed incident report in the coming days. )

    Edit :

    1) The Tinyman team has issued a warning on its website (swap page).

    2) as mentioned in the comments. This only affects liquidity pools in the tinyman DEX. Your assets in your wallets (ASA's and Algo), yieldly or AlgoFi are safe as they are not related to Tinyman LP's.

Once again, anyone invested in Tinyman liquidity pools, kindly pull out immediately.

78% of Crypto Investors believe in fake Statistics: "48% of Americans bought Crypto in just 6 Months", "40% of Americans want Crypto to partially replace their Paycheck"

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 08:19 AM PST

Recently many people post news which cite statistics, most of these statistics are often misleading.

    As example:

11% of people within the United States are Invested into Crypto

    14% of Americans own Crypto

48% of Americans bought Crypto in just 6 Months

40% of Americans would consider receiving part of their salary in cryptocurrency

So 11% of Americans own Crypto, while 48% of Americans have bought Crypto in just 6 months, while 40% of all Americans want Crypto to replace part of their paycheck, while 14% of Americans own Crypto?

These surveys are mostly conducted online and aimed at people who are already interested in Crypto. Meaning that instead of questioning the actual public, we ask ourselves if we like Crypto, and celebrate the outcome of it.

Please do not believe any of these statistics, while adoption is growing extremely, not 48% of Americans have bought Crypto in 6 months or consider Crypto replacing their paycheck.

Best lifehacks in crypto that beginners should know about

    Posted: 01 Jan 2022 07:42 AM PST

Some of us have been in crypto for quite some time, a few even as far back as 2010 or more. Through trial and error we all found out small (or big) "lifehacks" that newbies should know from the very start.

Please feel free to share your most useful lifehacks that you found while walking the streets of DeFi.

My top 3 lifehacks are next:

    1. when moving funds across exchanges be smart and use XLM or ALGO for super cheap and super fast transactions.

    2. use bookmarks to avoid getting on a phishing site by accident. Google doesn't do much about preventing phishing sites to appear in search results, so bookmark them for your safety

    3. use whitelisting addresses on exchanges to strengthen your security. Its easy to set it up and effective so that your funds cant go anywhere but to your wallets

Got compromised and lost over $120k in crypto; AMA

    Posted: 01 Jan 2022 12:43 PM PST

As I sit here on the first day of the new year, writing this post, I think to myself how much can one human take before it's just too much? The world can just be an absolutely awful, awful place.

I read these "stolen or hacked crypto" posts all the time. I always think, wow that person doesn't know what they're doing, shouldn't be investing in crypto in the first place, or that would never happen to me, because I'm super careful! Maybe they are just lying and trying to just get sympathy? Believe me, I wish I was.

Although, the posts that seem legit I always try to help. Now, I am on the other side of it. Never thought I'd be here.

I've been investing in digital assets since early 2016. I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable on all things related crypto/blockchain. I believe in the tech, I built my portfolio up for years and this is pretty much the only thing I enjoy in life.

I have a hardware wallet (Ledger Nano S) since 2017 and 4 different Metamask "hot" wallets. The hardware wallet consisted of 80% of my portfolio.

Yesterday, I used my Metamask to access all my wallets for a balance status check before the new year. Everything seemed normal. After checking again late last night and after seeing one of my accounts showing as zero, I noticed every wallet was wiped.

My only possible conclusion is that I clicked a malicious link while surfing the internet. The trojan must have somehow took control over my Google Chrome browser (or Metamask extension) while I was using it, while my ledger was unlocked. Checking the transactions times they were sent out around the time I had it open. Again, I never was prompted to accept or approve anything that I myself wasn't doing. It is frightening.

As I look at all of my wallets today, I see zero balances and I am absolutely crushed. It took all my power to even get out of bed, file reports, and write this post today.

I filed a report with my local county police department and the FBI. Although, I doubt either will be of any help, unfortunately.

Checking the transactions, it seems like the wallets were completed wiped in a matter of minutes.

    Hacker's ETH address:

    0x365DB2B5722d13F431224066898b4CF8cA7AdFe5

    Address on all chains:

    https://blockscan.com/address/0x365DB2B5722d13F431224066898b4CF8cA7AdFe5

I'm hoping one of the wallets leads to a KYC connection, but obviously a long shot here. Super grateful for any research or help.

Some of the crypto that was stolen:

    $ETH $MATIC $AAVE $TIME $OVR $ENS $ZRX $AVAX

If the hot wallets were all hacked, it would not be the end of the world. I just don't understand how the hacker accessed my hardware wallet, too. Again, I was never prompted a transaction to approve. My seed phrase is on paper, stored in a safe, which no one has access to. My seed phrase has never been written down anywhere else, no computer, no phone, except on that paper in the safe.

I know since it's self custody, it's obviously still my fault. Aside from probably accidently clicking a malicious link on the internet somewhere, I'm still at a complete loss of what I could have done better. A possible solution was to maybe have the hardware wallet on a computer I never touched - one that I never used the internet for, but this is all in hindsight.

I've been on this computer for years and there's been a few times when accidently clicking something that starts an auto-download. Obviously, I am always quick to delete or disable those files. Maybe a virus file was lying dormant for months or years without my anti-virus catching it? Just waiting for the right opportunity? Maybe it is a Metamask data leak? I'm not sure. I like to think I'm pretty careful about my passwords and security.

I mainly write this post to warn others. Even if you think you are safe, you might still be at risk. I guess with these advanced hackers now, all it takes is one wrong click. This was my life savings aside from a few emergency funds in my traditional bank. I don't think I will ever financially, emotionally, or mentally recover from this. It has affected my life and my family tremendously. I hate to sound dramatic and be that guy, but I'm honestly at a point now where life doesn't even seem worth it.

I'm trying my best to use the last of my energy to fight back.

Any help at all is super, super appreciated and I hope one day to pay you back tenfold (when I can).

    Thank you.

    ---

TL;DR ledger nano s hardware wallet and Metamask hot wallets were all hacked. Did everything in my power to keep my crypto safe and still lost everything. Most likely from a miss click link -> file download somewhere? Not entirely sure. My life savings gone. I am absolutely crushed beyond belief. Happy new year, this is the worst day of my life.

    ---

UPDATE: Many have reached out and experienced a similar hack, multiple with hardware wallets too. So many others have messaged to try to help and I can't thank you all enough. Doing my best to respond while working with exchanges, law enforcement, etc.

I haven't slept and working around the clock to try to bring justice to this. This is potentially huge and I don't want others facing the same fate.

Can't comment on much right now but a computer forensics expert is looking at my computer. Learned so far of a new malware that can hack into many of different crypto wallets. Yes, seems like Ledgers too. Potentially promising.

Compiling a comprehensive report when I can.

Bitcoin dominance is at a multi-year low, and looking likely to break to an all time low. Altcoins may be poised for a massive rally

Bitcoin dominance is at a multi-year low, and looking likely to break to an all time low. Altcoins may be poised for a massive rally

Bitcoin dominance is right now at 40%, which is the lowest since May 2018 and is trying to break through this support for the third time since 2021.

    Bitcoin Dominance charts

Throughout 2021, BTCD has lost over 42% while many alts-BTC pair have soared to new heights.

If the dominance breaks below 40, it could signal a fresh run for alts. As many may have noticed even now, while BTC is flatlined and moving sideways, many alts have risen a lot just in the past week alone.

There are many theories floating around, including one that claims BTC price is now driven almost exclusively on US based futures exchanges like CME where the futures and options have been attracting a lot of traders lately, and of course the futures based BITO ETF also has been an interesting play for options traders. As a result, BTC moves are starting to be driven by these Wall Street instruments, while majority of alts are still in price discovery mode and more closely resemble a free market where it can go up 200% a week and crash 70% the next week.

Historically, BTC dominance has only once dropped below 40 levels, and that was in Dec 2017 which resulted in a mega alt season. Right now, BTCD looks like it could fall below the support at 40 level and head further lower where apart from 36, there is no real zone of support. As you can see from the chart, BTCD drops are steep and breaking below 36 could see a great opportunity for alts to gain massive value vs their BTC pairs.

I didn't realize that you have to pay tax on every single Transaction. How fucked am I?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2022 04:05 PM PST

Before you read: Every transaction was made with usdt and other coins. I basically only payed out fiat once. About 3 months ago i got into crypto and turned 7k into 11k with a lot of transactions. I then put that money in my bank account and wanted to pay the tax later. After a few weeks i took the 11k, added another 15k (so 26k in all), bought a lot of usdt and turned that into 40k using a few altcoins with lots of ups and downs and many transactions. My question is; How fucked am i now since i have over 950 Transactions (Bought and sold)?? The good news is that Changing between Crypto currencies is tax free in march in my country so maybe i can try to work my way around that? My Overall profit is 13k currently. I thought that I only had to pay taxes (27.5%) once i realised that into fiat

Here is how much you would have earned if you had invested 10k on January 1st 2021

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 02:59 AM PST

I made 2 simulations, in one I took the Top 10 at 31/12/2021 and in another the Top 10 at 01/01/2021

    Top 10 as Today

    • Bitcoin +65% 1.000€ are now 1.800€
    • Ethereum +411% 1.000€ are now 5.500€
    • Binance Coin +1300% 1.000€ are now 15.000€
    • Solana +11.000% 1.000€ are now 119.000€
    • Cardano +668% 1.000€ are now 8.200€
    • Ripple +265% 1.000€ are now 3.900€
    • Terra +13.600% 1.000€ are now 147.000€
    • Polkadot +217% 1.000€ are now 3.400€
    • Avalanche +3.300% 1.000€ are now 36.000€
    • Doge +3480% 1.000€ are now 38.000€

So if you invested 10K in these coins on 01/01/2021, now you would have 380.000€. That means that studying projects and discovering new cryptos pays a lot more that spending your day studying graphs and watching videos of youtubers. However, Doge confirms that also communities and influencers can change the fate of a coin.

Obviously, not everyone is able to study and discover the best crypto before they become mainstream, so I made a second simulation very easy: what if someone simply took the Top 10 crypto on 01/01/2021 and invested 10k on them?

    Top 10 as last year

    • Bitcoin +65% 1.000€ are now 1.800€
    • Ethereum +411% 1.000€ are now 5.500€
    • Ripple +265% 1.000€ are now 3.900€
    • Litecoin +18% 1.000€ are now 1.300€
    • Polkadot +217% 1.000€ are now 3.400 €
    • Bitcoin Cash +26% 1.000€ are now 1.350€
    • Cardano +668% 1.000€ are now 8.200€
    • Binance Coin +1300% 1.000€ are now 15.000 €
    • Chainlink +80% 1.000€ are now 1.900€
    • Stellar +108% 1.000€ are now 2.200€

That's very interesting. If you invested 10k, in just one year you would make 45.000€ even if you didn't know anything about crypto and you literally just picked the 10 coins that were on top an year ago.

Edit: Some users are complaining that the math seems wrong. You can try by yourself just by adding coins in your coinmarketcap portfolio and set the date of the purchase on 1 January 2021. I don't know why CMC says that 1000 to 1800 is just +65% and not +80%, I guess the calculation is different than the simple proportion. However we all use CMC everyday so I think it's fair to use its way to calculate the profits.

But most important: why you care about the percentage? This is not a math exam, it's just a post to show some interesting data about the last year of crypto.

DYOR is good for avoiding scams, but it is useless against hacks and exploits. Some trust is needed and ultimately only projects that do not abuse it will succeed.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 05:01 AM PST

We are all beta-testing with our money right now and I do not like that some people lay all responsibility on individuals to "DYOR". We are not all programmers! You can not expect everyone to analyse the code of every DeFi application there is and find every possible flaw.
We need to trust people who build the applications not to fuck up or trust the people who check them! Every exploit and hack on the mainnet is a major hit and I don't see this space maturing in the near future when big projects get exploited left and right for millions.
I don't think that the wining argument for a blockchain is "We are first!". In the long run "We are safe!" will win. If your mistakes cost people money, sometimes even the only money they can spare, you do not get to make many of them.

The crypto market might be making things difficult for you right now, but remember you are already more fortunate than 90% of the planet because you are in it.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2022 03:45 PM PST

It's hard. Red day after day, small gain, then large drop, small recovery, then another drop. I understand. We here are all experiencing it together.

But remember, this sub is an echochamber that makes crypto appear that adoption is almost ubiquitous. It's not. Most of the planet is still not in crypto. Most think its still a scam,or scary, or for criminals, or a bubble, or a Ponzi, or just plain useless.

The fact that you are here now, even in 2022, you are still one of the earliest adopters. Whether you are up 100k, or down 40%, in a few years it simply won't matter. We will all be massively up.

By the year 2030, the same people that think you're an idiot will say:

"I can't believe you bought when it was less than 60k! You are so insanely lucky!"

We're along for the ride at the moment, and most of the planet is still queued up at the Hotdog stand paying with their FIAT. They'll join us on the ride eventually, but they still think its far too risky, and not worth giving up their current lifestyle choices. Meanwhile, we're having the time of our lives seeing a never ending unpredictable path of turns, drops, climbs, twists, rises and falls.

So, we can call each other dumb for backing X coin, being a maxi, or not diversifying, or forgetting to DCA, but in the end it doesn't matter. Crypto is inevitable, and will change the world, and most people still don't even realise that.

    You are one lucky bastard.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 05:20 AM PST

For those unaware there is a DEX known as TINYMAN on the Algogrand Blockchain. A Hacker was able to take advantage of a vulnerability to remove more liquidity than they gave. People have been blaming the auditor for not catching this. They did!

    Here is the audit https://github.com/runtimeverification/publications/blob/main/reports/smart-contracts/Tinyman.pdf

Clearly stated in the audit that there was a potential for this exploit to take place.

    https://imgur.com/a/kP0YkTf

DONT BLAME THE AUDITOR They pointed out the issue and even provided a potential way to fix the problem. TINYMAN should be held accountable for not warning investors or freezing the pools to protect investors funds.

Is it a good time to enter the market right now as a newcomer?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 05:31 AM PST

    hey everyone

so i'm a newcomer to crypto who wants to play around with $100 USD in the market to see what i can do. this is obviously a very minuscule amount of money. i am however wondering if it is a good idea to enter the market right now. i'm not looking to gain exponential wealth. i'm 17 and i just wanna make some side cash for my own leisure because i cannot get my own job.

from what i have researched so far, crypto in general follows the movements of bitcoin. and seeing as bitcoin is sitting at high-ish price relative to its recent crash and its ATH it makes me question if i should wait and have patience to buy my way in when another dip happens or if i should just say "fuck it" and buy now. i keep seeing people mention that there was a recent bull market and an upcoming bear market and crypto winter. i feel like that should be the more logical time to enter crypto right?

anyways reddit, what do you think? enter now, or enter when the bear market hits? and if i should enter when the bear market hits, how long will it take for the bear market to hit? i can't seem to find that time frame anywhere.

side note: i don't think DCA is necessarily something i should consider because DCA helps investors breakdown large investments into small chunks. but when i'm only looking to play around with $100 does it still make sense to DCA?

edit: after the overwhelming recommendations to enter the market, i shall DCA my way into my first portfolio. thank you everyone, i love you <3

2022 the year of the Tiger! Using Chinese zodiacs for predicting returns....

    Posted: 02 Jan 2022 05:49 AM PST

As all TA is out the window and I know shit about fuck anyway....I have decided to turn to Chinese astrology for guidance on the next year in cryptocurrency.

We have a month left of the year of the Ox, which sounds very bull like if you ask me, so I think that was an accurate prediction for the past year of growth we have had.

In February we enter the year of the water tiger!

I have no idea what a water tiger is but apparently it represents strength, vitality and growth! Hear that folk, GROWTH! We are 690% guaranteed growth of at least 420%

2023 is the year of the rabbit, prediction unclear
