    Safe GPU mining temps?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 05:20 AM PST

I have been reesearching crypto mining and i just recently installed nicehash and i am confused about temperatures. When mining nicehash would say my gpu is 67 degrees celsius, while task manger would say 85. I thought thia was confusing so i did some research and apparently 60 to 70 degrees celsius is safe temp for GPU core while 80 to 95 is safe for vram. I installed GPUZ and it has 4 different temps. It has GPU temp, GPU (hot spot) temp?, memory temp?, and vram temp. First of all what is GPU hot spot temp? Is it important? Also what is the difference between memory temp and vram temp. When mining my Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT it has a gpu temp of 67, hot spot temp of 85, a memory temp of 100 and a vram temp of 67? I am so confused. If my gpu is overheating i do not want to mine, if it is not overheating i definitely want to mine. Please help me?

Can't get rig past 3 GPUs after having 5 connected & working

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 04:32 AM PST

    • Motherboard: B450 Gaming Plus Max
    • CPU: AMD Athlon 3000G
    • PSU: 2x Corsair RM650 650 Watt 80+ Gold
    • SSD: M.2 NVME
    • OS: HiveOS
    • Miner: TeamRedMiner v.0.8.6.3
    • GPU: All 6600 XT's
      • 2x MSI MECH 2X 8GB OCV1
      • 1x PowerColor Red Devil
      • 1x MSI MECH 2X 8GB OC
      • 1x MSI Gaming X 8GB

My rig is behaving strangely and I can't figure out what the issue is, wondering if you guys can help.

Before today I just had the PowerColor and 2x MSI MECH's (OCV1) on my rig and it was running fine.

I got the other two cards today and set them up on the rig as normal, the only thing to mention is that they are powered from the 2nd PSU, they both showed up in HiveOS but then I got the following error:

"Msg issuing pre-check failed and SMU may be not in the right state"

So I did some googling and saw it could be due to the OC settings, so I cleared the OC settings for those two cards and then the rig was working fine.

Those two cards though were running at 28 Mh/s so I tried applying some different overclocks, and then the rig crashed again. This time on reboot the cards show as offline and I can't seem to get them back at all.

I've gone through these steps, hope this isn't too confusing!

    • Remove two new GPUs, on reboot everything ok.
    • Connect one of the new GPU's back into 2nd PSU and motherboard, on boot only the 3 GPUs from 1st PSU show up
    • Disconnect working GPU from 1st PSU and plug in new GPU to 1st PSU (so still only 3 connected)... it shows up on rig
    • Connect disconnected working GPU from 1st PSU into 2nd PSU, so now 4 GPUs connected, only 3 show up
      • At this point, I think it could be the 2nd PSU, but I have a keyboard plugged in along with a display so I unplug the keyboard and on reboot, I see all 4 GPUs
    • So now I swap the power cables over, plug the original GPU back into PSU 1 and the new GPU back into PSU 2, and on reboot... only 3 GPUs in HiveOS
      • Move the working GPU from PSU 1 > PSU 2 alongside the new GPU, and on reboot... 3 GPUs in HiveOS, but not the new GPU
      • Move new GPU from PSU 2 > PSU 1 = it doesn't show up (like it did a few steps ago)
      • Unplug working GPU from PSU 2 and boot (3 GPU's connected to PSU 1, 1 of them new) = only 2 original GPU's show up

So I've gone from all 5 GPUs showing up & working, to 4, to just the original 3.

As far as I can tell, even though the PSU's behaved strangely with swapping the GPUs, they seem to be working fine.

It's odd that 4 GPUs showed up after disconnecting the keyboard, but even now with it disconnected only 3 show up.

I've checked that all of the power cables etc are plugged in and connected correctly on everything.

I don't have any spare risers to test with, they are being delivered tomorrow, but what is the likelihood of my last 2 risers both being shit, or is it something to do with the motherboard?

    Thanks in advance!

Does any power supply have 5 or 6 VGA/GPU 8 Pin Strands ?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 01:02 AM PST

Hope someone can help/ Im stomped.

I have some 750 watt / 850 watt corsair / evga, they seem to have only (4) GPU 8 Pin

Was wondering if there are any power supply that would have more than 4 GPS strands from the power supply.

Trying to make 6 gpu rig of rx6600 , dont want to split the 8 pins since its 150 watts, and rx6600 can take 75+riser.

Adding another psu, or splitting 8 pins, dont think will work

External Fans for the Mining Rig

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 11:20 PM PST

Hello all. I wonder what type of fans do you guys use? I recently built my first rig and I just bought Rampage 4C-120S fans. They feel a little weak for me. Like the flow is not enough to cool along the GPU. What do you guys use?

Is there a place that lists what you can mine by difficulty?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:42 PM PST

There are a million places that you can use to find the most profitable things to mine. I don't care about that at all. Is there a place that lists them by the current average time it takes to mine? Something like 1 coin @60.5 MH/s hash rate = 10 minutes? I'm just trying to collect a few coins from each currency as fast as possible and then move on. I have a normal coin collection and I thought it would be fun to start a digital one too. Also, my basement was cold.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 10:20 PM PST

I'm about to buy a sealed RTX 3070 FE off Craigs but want to make ABSOLUTELY sure it's not LHR!! There are no indications on the packaging of LHR.. and the product ID is: 900-1g142-2510-000

    Any help?
