Please use caution with the "New OB app". There are red flags. Posted: 05 Dec 2021 06:39 AM PST A new OpenBazaar would be great! But I do not trust it for the reasons below. I will edit or delete this post if I am shown evidence to the contrary. TLDR; this new project is suspicious. First of all, they published a new app. But AFAIK, OB1 never released the code for their android app 'Haven' beyond an inital commit. This would require some work to make it publishable on another google play account. They have not shown any of this work So apparently the devs ctrl+c/ctrl+v an entire android app. That might be believable if we saw the code they're claiming to use. The reason people were able to trust Haven at all, despite not having access to the code, was because the developers had doxxed themselves. If Haven ended up doing something sketchy like steal money or leak data, there would have been actually flesh and blood people to hold accountable. But this "Haven 2.0" has been published by apparently anonymous developers. The only way to trust an anonymous developer is if the code is open source. Another red flag: They have made a total of 9 changes to the main OB desktop codebase. 9 commits for a project this size is strange. I've quickly glanced at them, and there is almost no substantial change aside from updating external links, donation addresses and other superficial things. To properly take over this huge code base, there would be more than 9 changes that would need to be made. This makes me think the dev team is either incompetent, or something more nefarious is going on. I will be staying away from this project unless these questions are answered. Bitcoin without native scaling cannot be real Bitcoin Posted: 05 Dec 2021 04:45 PM PST Satoshi Nakamoto designed a natively scalable coin called 'Bitcoin'. The first question asked about it when he announced it was, can it scale natively to onboard the entire world? His immediate answer was, 'Yes.' Twelve years later, the cryptocurrency known as Bitcoin is no longer designed to scale natively. It is not the technology that Satoshi came up with any longer: it is something lesser now, something intentionally crippled that needs assistance. There is still, however, a natively scaled version of Bitcoin. But because the BTC developers refused to allow this and refused to continue to scale natively as intended, the natively scaled version of Bitcoin had to be renamed. Today, the natively scaled Bitcoin is called 'Bitcoin Cash'. The history of computing is littered with corpses of emulated and unnecessarily layered technologies that failed to compete with their natively capable counterparts. This effect is so pronounced that anytime your competitor has managed to make an operation native instead of involving any kind of translation layer, you should absolutely steal that innovation, or else your goose is probably cooked in the long run. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is Bitcoin with its originally planned and natively scaled architecture still intact. Whereas the 'BTC' version has been compromised, made less native. There is now an entire BTC transaction emulation layer that adds nothing to the project. It was merely an attempt to reinvent the wheel non-natively. Why would anyone do this? The Lightning Network has been moving Bitcoin in exactly the opposite direction from which technological progress normally proceeds. This is all old news, and the rehashing of an old battle. But the next battle looks set to be a repetition of history, and this time it will be over whether to natively implement subtokens. Guess which side of history BCH is on? The native side, once again. BTC isn't: they are planning to implement subtokens using centralised offchain systems instead. Betting long on native technologies against their unnecessarily layered and translated competition is how you pick the winners in the microcomputer industry. Always has been. [link] [comments]

Introspection opcodes are so cool, here's a teaser Posted: 05 Dec 2021 06:48 AM PST Below is an example of a covenant contract owned by another contract. Whatever sibling contract is created as the 2nd (index 1) output will be the owner of the 1st (index 0) output. This way, ownership of the contract can be changed without changing the P2SH hash. This contract is an idea I was toying with before, but now I got to test it and it worked, eureka! Posted: 05 Dec 2021 06:20 AM PST I have long suspected that something weird is going on in this community. Accounts will show up and post only to r/BTC with negative nonsense and lies then disappear. Adam Back has previously suggested they hire reputation management to "correct" information on social media. My offer, $1,000 in BCH to anyone who can show evidence they've been hired to post to this sub and do an AMA here. [link] [comments]

We’re still early. Two reasons why Posted: 05 Dec 2021 04:42 PM PST Over the last year cryptocurrency, especially bitcoin and ETH have received a lot of attention worldwide and even adoption as currency in a few small countries. This is a great start but nowhere near the end goal. Reason 1: A lot of people talk about crypto like stock meaning they are measuring the value against a fiat currency. I know several people with 6 and 7 figure holdings that still refer to their crypto as "shares" and that's ok for now. Reason 2: People aren't using crypto as a means of accepting payment at scale. I think this will change soon, probably within the next 2 years when there is more around how businesses can handle accepting crypto for payment, it's just too new. Hopefully there will be an increase in the demand for businesses to accept crypto for them to take steps to offer that as a payment method. At some point the average American will use crypto for random transactions, right now we are ahead of the curve. I can't wait to hear a store merchant say "cash, card or crypto?" You guys are so poor and we are so rich now. Wow like I can get 450 000 Tether for my Bitcoin now! Wow.
